Pub games
Pub games
Concerning how Legends MIGHT be similar to HearthStone, in which the card game is actually being played by two people in-universe in a pub/tavern/inn, it got me to thinking about if there were actually any pub games in-universe at all, eg: cards, poker, dice, coin golf, darts, etc.
Has there been any mentioned? If not, what kind of TES variations of pub games would you like to see?

Re: Pub games
This guy plays shells in a tavern if that counts, although the most common pub games in Tamriel seem to be drinking competitions.

Re: Pub games
Having games in the taverns would be kinda cool.
I could see them turning a dice or card game into a mini-game. Shells would probably work for that, too. Maybe armwrestling as a non-violent alternative to bar brawls.

The developers could make that work by adding a 'drunk' effect to the alcoholic beverages.legoless wrote:... the most common pub games in Tamriel seem to be drinking competitions.

Re: Pub games
I would pick the skull rolling game from Ironsword (along with the music) and Pazaak from KOTOR.
His name was Emer Dareloth.

Re: Pub games
The card game from the old Might and Magic games was badass.
I don't recall what it was called though, but any variant of that would be pretty sweet.
I used to spend hours playing it...
Arcomage or something, maybe?

Re: Pub games
Let's try and keep on topic of canonical pub games rather than "this would be cool", since this is the Lore sub-forum.

Re: Pub games
I can't remember many pub games, but I would like to see some
Since everyone in Tamreil has a 'supernatural' (to us anyway) ability or magical skill, perhaps pub games would also involve arcane events. For example, the Dunmer fire trick where you see how long you can hold a red hot coal (or even hug a flame atronarch tho this game takes place outside in the yard). And all the mages can use their fire resistance spells, asbestos gloves and so forth
I am sure there would be a deep cultural tradition of such things in Tamreil and use of some abilities would be considered more acceptable than others. Perhaps a Morrowind-era Dark Elf would be banned from a bar for summoning his ancestral guardian in order to consult it during a pub quizz, for example
i would also like to see telekinesis pong/tug o war/keepy uppy and drunk variants of these games, as well. I don't see why pub games would all be tests of strength or dexterity
Which reminds me:
There's a pub game from THHGTTG where one player uses his tk ability to pour a dram of ol Janx Spirit into the opponent's glass, which must then be drunk. Ol Janx Spirit impairs tk ability so once you begin to lose, you likely will continue to lose, and the book ends with a foot note that Ford Prefect usually played to lose so he could do the forfeit demanded by the game.

Re: Pub games
This tradehouse notice lists several pub games, and a few others have been mentioned elsewhere, I think. ESO may have referred to one or two. I know dice are all over the place, at least.
I think it's just a matter of time before we start seeing these. Pub games are one possible avenue for introducing a bit of social gameplay to the next game. I'm still holding out hope for an ESO companion app, which seems like a platform which could accommodate a pub game or two.
Having some unique mage-specific games seems only natural, but not everyone can necessarily exercise magical abilities.

Re: Pub games
I think the pub games in Fable - The Lost Chapters, or at least similar games, would be brilliant additions to the TES franchise.
EDIT: I accidentally bumped this topic. My apologies.

Re: Pub games
Back when I played TES III, some fellows made a mod with a proper chess board in a pub. It may be merely a mod, but I think chess do belong in Tamriel pubs.

Re: Pub games
Not a game, but a form of entertainment - the dandy high-kick from Morrowind. Yes, that's a thing. It was added by an early free official DLC for the game. It apparently involves spinning on a Bonemold shield, and is popular with drunk Dunmer.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Oh, yeah, I remember that one! Requires stat checks. Same with juggling and musical performances.

Re: Pub games
If we're talking about dancing, there's also the "traditional Dancing on Eggs jig" performed every Fredas night in Stormhold.
