The Canadian stuff makes me laugh. I live in Wisconsin, and still get asked "so are you Canadian?". I don't know whether to smack the person, or feel sorry for him/her.
I guess I have a very thick midwest accent because when I talk to people on the phone they can guess where I am from. I never thought that midwest people had that pronounced accents.
Oh I got stung by a bee yesterday, for the first time in a long time. Right on my second finger. It hurt like hell, but I couldn't let Genna know because she is already scared of bees. But she learned that bee sting will not kill you (unless you are allergic of course).

Maybe it doesn't compared to other parts of the world, but it's cold enough for me to get sick.
But if you were to go geographically then why shouldn't it get cold in winter? Or late autumn. It's as far north as England, which isn't exactly known for being warm. Plus there's the north winds.
But it could be worse for me, I'm in what's considered to be the "sunny" south-east. I could be in the north, where it'd be like Scotland I suppose.

I have a friend from MN and he has a very distinct accent compared to other people around here. Of course, South Carolinians have their own accents too.xenolion wrote:I guess I have a very thick midwest accent because when I talk to people on the phone they can guess where I am from. if you go about it geographically, it shouldn't get too cold in winter. couple of years ago for example, a friend of mine in england was complaining about -2°. at the time, the temps around here were nearly -20°...The Dog Whisperer wrote:Maybe it doesn't compared to other parts of the world, but it's cold enough for me to get sick.

it's just a different climate to on the continent, it doesn't get as hot in the summer or as cold in the winter.
but i understand about the colds, i got one few weeks back after spending hours in a cold circus tent. brrrr...

Yeah but your winters last for like 3 days
As for around here, it doesn't get very cold. I think the coldest it got this winter was 0, but that was for like an hour at midnight and that was the coldest winter in years. Days are generally about 10 (Celsius, btw).
I've never in my whole life seen snow before.

You aren't missing much. Unless it's good packing snow, snow is just plain...... annoying. When I lived in San Angelo, Texas it snowed maybe once every 3 years, but when it did, IT WAS PACKING SNOW. I remember making a 7 foot tall snow fort [using a cooler to make large snow bricks] out of 2 INCHES OF SNOW. Now I live in Indiana, and it sometimes [and by that I mean, ALWAYS] comes down up to 1 foot, but guess what? I can't even make a decent snowman here!WitchArcane wrote:I've never in my whole life seen snow before
But I digress.
I much prefer warmer climates, like Texas. And now that I think about it, that whole canada thing [see some previous pages] has another extreme. I live in Indiana now, and it seems like everybody up here thinks Texas is a barren wasteland populated by hicks who ride horses everywhere and wear cowboy hats ALL THE TIME. It DRIVES ME NUTS. Ever heard of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre? That actually took place in Indiana. It happened when a man moved to this backwater state, and couldn't stand the way people thought about Texas. Agh! Whenever people say things like that to me I want to commision Chuck Norris to roundhouse kick them into the next millenium!

Ugh, I know! I'm not as tall as you, but most people consider my current 6'7" to be very tall for a 15-year-old........who isn't even close to being done with growing. But being tall is fun! Except when short people try to beat me up for accidently bumping into them in the halls, because he/she is too short for me to see without looking down.... [*cough* *cough* Lauren *cough* *cough*].

I might repeat myself, but I don't feel like reviewing my own prior posts..
Why it's awesome to be me:
I am apparently immune to every common communicable virus and/or strain of bacteria known to man, as I never ever ever get sick, no matter how many people around me do so. This includes less common things such as food poisoning, as on multiple (meaning twice) I've eaten bad food (without knowing it, of course) that made everyone sick but me. I also have zero allergies (ironically, save for a key ingredient in allergy medication).
I heal at an increased rate. If I get cut in the morning, by evening it will be gone or nearly so (depending on severity). I once healed from a broken bone in two weeks so that it didn't even show up on the xray as having ever been broken (should have seen the doctor's face).
I am almost completely resistant to the cold as I can walk into a freezer at work that's easily 20 below freezing while in shorts and a tshirt and it won't bother me in the least.
--------
Why it sucks to be me:
I suffer from practically every condition known to man not directly resulting from bacteria/viruses: I was born with asthma, I was recently diagnosed with narcolepsy, I might be schizophrenic, I see rain when it's not raining, I'm afraid of people and crowds, migraines, frequent headaches, etc. As a result of my super immune system, I'm also highly resistant to medication, so I have to take much more than the prescribed dosages for anything to ever work (of course, I don't suffer from side effects so it works out, I guess).
Yeah, nothing really bad about that one. Um, I can't show off scars, I guess. <shrug>
The opposite is true for heat. I could probably get heat stroke and pass out in 80°F (27°C) weather. I sweat constantly because of this, leading to my constant state of dehydration even during spring/autumn weather. This of course leads to my near inability to go outside during the day, hence my night schedule at work.

You sound a bit like me, except that you're actually ill and I'm just a hypochondriac. Every time I sneeze I've got ebola, every minor irritation is cancer, every minor ache is a broken bone... Although at the moment I am suffering from very genuine toothache. Time to ease off on those whisky & Diet Cokes I reckon.

Move up here to Seattle! Not much can be said for the weather, but at least you can count the number of days a year it gets hot here on one hand.

To dispel any rumours and/or stereotypes: We do not ride horses to work. We do have modern cities, and our capital has been named the most recession proof city in America; our unemployment has actually gone down. Not as many of us wear cowboy hats as you might think but you usually do see them once every 2 or 3 days. Oklahoma's landscape is actually very, very beautiful, not just plain. We have at least 1 of every type of land formation excluding sea and rain forest. If you want to see for yourself, don't go to the panhandle; I've been and it's absolutely rip-your-hair-out flat and boring. I've been told I have a thick accent, but that was from a guy who lives in Queens so I don't imagine that it's actually as thick as he says. Our state's educational system is one of the best in the country (not an opinion). We have more shoreline the the pacific coastal states combined. OKC's sister city is Rio De Janero, Brazil. It's nickname is "The Big Friendly", though, it's not a widely used term. I've heard that Tulsa is actually quite a good tourist destination. Mick Cornet is the best mayor we've ever had. We are the premier kayak destination in the U.S. Don't ask me why, I really don't know. That's about all the information that I have.

This was in Moore, OK where it did the most damage. I got a little PTSD when watching this. The two people you hear talking are David Payne and Mike Morgan, respectively. They are two meteorologists at Channel 4.
From there, the other videos are pretty good. If you want any more on it just type "May 3rd tornado" in Google and it brings up all the good sites.
Edit: This just irked me, sorry. The video entitled "Unbelievable Tornado Footage (May 3rd, 1999)" where the guy says the people of Bridge Creek thought the gentle rolling hills would protect them from tornadoes, we are not that stupid. We have lived around these things all our life. We know hills do not stop tornadoes. Sorry, it really ticked me off cuz I have friends in Bridge Creek. *Steps down from soapbox*
You should move to Oklahoma. We get snow every year, and at least once a year it's packing snow. Our summers are almost unbearable at an average of 97 degrees F and our winters have been known to reach 0 degrees F. Our local news stations keep the graphic "Ice Storm (Insert Year Here)" on hand through every winter because there's a 50% chance that the power will go down for at least a week every winter. Our Springtime is infamous in that several people die each year in terrible swirling vortexes (I was gonna put Vorteces but Firefox is disagreeing) of doom. You can speak the date "May 3rd" to anyone in Oklahoma and maybe Kansas and they will immediately know exactly what you are talking about. That horrifying event is the only time that Gary England ever cussed on T.V.: "Get your A**es underground! You will not be safe unless you are underground!". Oh, and by the way, it is universally recognized that the May 3rd was an F5 tornado, but also universally accepted to call it an F6 since it was so large that they rewrote the Fujita scale. All tornadoes starting in 2008 are classified using the Enhanced Fujita (EF) scale that ranges from 1-10. I'll post a link below with a pretty good sketch of the May 3rd, but the site is old so none of the links in it work save for one or two. Our Autumns are beautiful; since central Oklahoma is near the tree belt we have an amazing display of foliage. Everyone here loves Thanksgiving and most of us love Halloween; however, this is the Bible Belt so you will hear at least one old fashioned family complaining about it every year.WitchArachne wrote:Yeah but your winters last for like 3 days Very Happy

..I never go outside during the day, I have central heat/air and still run an AC in my bedroom (which I rarely leave) and when I'm outside for more than half an hour, I use tons of sunblock. I can nearly get second degree burns from being outside in the sun for an hour. The absolute worst pain in my entire life (and I've been struck directly by a car going 60mph-ish) was when I was outside without a shirt for one hour. It's so bad that just being in the car with the sun shining through the windows, I can feel my skin burning.

Im somewhat the same way. Ive never broken a bone because they are made of atamantium. I think my immune system is good because i take care of myself though. Exercise and eat healthy, all that bs actually works. I know im putting my man card on the line, but i even grow my own vegetables. I do have cluster headaches (aka suicide headaches) which is the most painful thing ive ever experienced.
Oh and watch the aspirin. The side affect of that isnt noticed until you need a liver/kidney/heart transplant. If your doc gives you pain pills for your migraines i guarantee youll notice that.
You should look into pure oxygen. It works for cluster headaches but those are different from migraines but its at least worth looking into. For my headaches ive had powerful pain pills that lay me out, but they dont touch the headaches. I finally found out that pure o2 is a godsend. All natural, no side affects, extremely cheap, and works almost instantly.
