Re: Oblivion General Discussion
I don't see why a good character can't kill Lucien. There are several justifiable murders in the game (Arnora, Mages guild tasks, friendly fire during the Battle for Kvatch) that will trigger the DB and bring him to you. You can kill him when he goes chameleon, and then raid his castle. However, by selling the apples your character would be trafficing in death because the apples can't be used defensively. He might as well be selling Anthrax powder.
I think a good character would leave the skooma den alone. They may be junkies, but that doesn't mean they are evil people. Casting frenzy to start a fight is the same as giving someone free alcohol and putting them in a car with a full tank of gas and then cutting the brake lines.

Thank you! Your explanation was exactly what I needed. I will feel more comfortable in the "lawful wealth gathering" roleplay now.

Re: Oblivion General Discussion
I'm once again aiming for 100% completion, or at least as close to that as I can get, and I've run into the same problem I did before. I can't, for the life of me, locate the last few Oblivion gates. According to my stats page, I've shut 52 of them. I'm currently on the Blood of the Divines in the main quest. I have not yet done the Great Gate quest, and I know that counts for one. However, I have no idea where the remaining 7 could be. First I tried the "tmm 1" command, but then I found out that Oblivion gates will only spawn when you're in the vicinity. So then I used the map of possible gate locations and traveled to every single one I hadn't already been to. This did not help at all.
What conditions are necessary to get the last few gates to appear?

You've already gotten the book, so the floodgates should be wide open.

I guess this is a glitch in how the game counts the gates then, because I did the Great Gate, I'm ready to go to Paradise, and I'm still only at 53 gates. Oh well, it's not like I need any more treasure or sigil stones.

I got all the sigil stone in the game and then dropped them on the floor in waterfront house. They almost are like living pets cause they roll on the floor and make a purring sound. You should try this if haven't yet.FrozenWolf150 wrote:I guess this is a glitch in how the game counts the gates then, because I did the Great Gate, I'm ready to go to Paradise, and I'm still only at 53 gates. I've had Cassie break into the castle and give the prince a kiss— of death.

Re: Oblivion General Discussion
After playing Skyrim and Fallout 4 so much, going back to try Oblivion on PC again was jarring, but not for graphical reasons. I can handle that. I've been gaming so long that Oblivion's graphics seem new to me, still, in the grand scheme of things. (The first RPGs I played were on an Apple II, in the 80's).
It's the controls. They're more intuitive and organic in Skyrim and Fallout 4 IMO. I had to tweak my control scheme to more closely match that on my keyboard. Other than that, the game has aged very well. It's still a ton of fun after nearly a decade. I rolled a Dunmer bard whose quest is to get as much treasure as possible and built a massive library of books.

Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Re: Oblivion General Discussion
I'm doing the quest, Fingers of the Mountain, for the Mages Guild, and I procured the FotM book for Teekeeus. He says he will give me a recommendation for this, however, the quest has a part two, where you steal the book back and give it to an ex-guild member, Earana.
What I'm wondering is: does stealing the book and giving to Earana lose you the guild recommendation, or will I still get it anyway?
I didn't want to look it up because of SPOILERS.

As I recall, he is not sure who steals the book from him. He may suspect you, but this isn't enough to withdraw his recco.

Celebrating 10 years of Oblivion by collaborating with Lady N for the Oblivion Lore Month. My stories paired with her art. Hope you enjoy this little tribute. Several more entries, for the remainder of the month, so keep checking in.

Thanks. Keep in mind there's like 21 entries left to go. And yes, her art style goes well with these, although some of them will just display screens from the game, because of time constraints.

A great read, makes me want to play again, though I've got too much business in Skyrim. Dying over and over again in Kvatch! I sure remember that.

Kvatch was the crucible of the game, especially if you waited a few levels before doing it. The level scaling in Oblivion was well and truly a b*tch.

Ah, how I loved the mods I got to remedy the leveling deal. And the Kvatch Rebuilt mod was great too.

Re: Oblivion General Discussion
I have to mention that I edited the General Combat Strategies page of the wiki to include the following tip for training defensive skills:
"Human enemies are the safest method if you disarm them with Disintegrate Weapon and cast Damage Strength to reduce their attack damage. They can only punch you for 1 damage, so the risk is minimal. Since they can't move and have limited reach, you can also use them to train offensive skills."
I've been using this method for a while since I play on max difficulty and found that I take far less damage (and with no risk of disease) than when using rats. If you start to take too much damage, just step back and heal up, since with zero strength they can't come after you. Human enemies are the most abundant in the game, so you don't have to run all over searching for rats either.
There is a glitch though, which is that if you reduce someone's strength to zero, quicksave and quickload, they'll be able to chase after you again.

My younger sister just recently turned 12 and has been deemed old enough to play by my mother. I'm so happy for her. I love this game so much. ^-^ I just hope she can get even a fraction of my joy out of it.

You mother is wise. We made our daughter wait until she was 12, and while she was probably mature enough for most of the content prior to that, the Dawnguard content proved a tad unnerving for her. Two years later, she's giving me pointers on how to take down gargoyles.

Re: Oblivion General Discussion
Oblivion is a good intro to the TES series ^_^. Well, not bc it's the easiest(that honor goes to hand-holding[/i] Skyrim) but bc it's that fine balance between quality and ease of use per RPG mechanics. Per maturity? I don't really think I have any right to comment.. What with playing Halo and facing off the Flood(i.e space zombies on super steriods) before even my preteens.. <_<
