Is Bethesda Secretly a Cult of Cthulhu? (Yes)

Post by AKB »

Fact: Bethesda's personal favorite game they ever made was Call of Cthulhu.

Fact: Almost every single game they make contains AT least one Cthulhu. Morrowind has a bunch of tentacle face monsters. Take for example, the Ascended Sleeper. You know who else likes sleeping? Cthulhus. Dagoth Ur even adopts the classical Cthulhu strategy of sitting around and messing with peoples minds until someone hits him with a boat when he tries to do something.

Fact: Oblivion has A Shadow Over Hackdirt, a town full of Cthulhus worshipping a Cthulhu, and Cthuluing anyone who Cthulhus too close to the Cthulhu.

Fact: Then you have Dragonborn, or as its more commonly known by those in the "know", "The Cthulhu Expansion".

Fact: Also, Cthulhu is an actual character in the games.

Fact: Fallout 3-4 have the Dunwich peoples, which are SECRETLY all about Cthulhu.

Fact: Dishonored has the main character, Corvo "SCARY MAN" Attano, be framed for murdering his girlfriend who was also the empress, and he was also a bodyguard. But then Cthulhu shows up while he is sleeping(!!!!!), and give him a ton of superpowers to use to convert everyone to worshiping Cthulhu. This also happens in the expansion packs. Dishonored 2 has revealed that the new empress also now has similar Cthulhu superpowers.

Fact: Gridiron!, the game that would be stolen by EA to make all Madden games has each match end with the phrase "WIN OR LOSE: THE SLEEPER WILL AWAKEN AND DEVOUR ALL" appear upon the screen, instead of any indication of which team won.

Fact: The new DOOM video game will launch with a contest to go on a boating expedition off the coast of Innsmouth, New England, with Todd Howard, and a net.

Fact: FROM SOFTWARE made the game BLOODBOURNE after @Bethesda on twitter FROM to tell them to make a new Dark Souls game, except don't do that and make a Cthulhu game.

Fact: the first expansion for Fallout 4 will star Cthulhu.

Fact: The interviewing process for getting hired by Bethesda involves at least one sacrifice to Old Ones.
Spoiler:
I'm either very serious, or not at all serious, about this.

I think there are definitely Lovecraft fans on the team. I wouldn't call Hermaeus Mora a literal Cthulhu though.

They just have to pony up the dough and cast a voice actor with an actual deep voice rather that resorting to sloooooooooowiiiiiiiiiinng dooooowwwn the auuuuuuuudiiiiiiiiiio in a most annoying manner.

Cthulhu does not abide such cheap trickery.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

You forgot to mention there's Mehrunes DAGON, and Mora's Black Book's are clearly the Necronomicon.

Me either. He seems more like Yog Sothoth or maybe Nyarlothotep.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Yes, Bethesda call upon the Cthulhu when they want anyone destroyed. They called upon them previously and signed a pact that they will make Hermaeus Mora a Cthulhu if their game becomes one of the best games of the world.

and don't forget the Dunwich building in Fallout 3 with it's basement. One of the scariest places in any game, I was extremely glad of three dog and his music when the atmosphere got to me. I think the "moonshiners" dlc for FO3 also had a follow up story where a cultist in a mansion wanted a mythos-esq book from that place (warning: I am writing from from memory not wiki)

there's a dungeon in the Shivering Isles where people are sacrificed to a pit, their journals sound all very Lovecraftian. Not to mention the SI themselves are similar to descriptions of Lovecraft's Dreamlands

Hermaeus Mora is very similar to something Lovecraft might think up, I'd probably tag him as one of Nyarlathotep's many forms as he likes enslaving mortals through forbidden knowledge
