Grelok - Windhelm Prison

After catching his breath from grunting in pain, Grelok stared at his new hand in awe. He rotated the wrist about, and flexed his dwarven digits. The Orc continued to sit on his knees, mesmerized with his boon.

Theodastyr

Theodastyr was clad in iron mail, wearing a thick tabard, bearing his family's sigil, over that. Bands of metal came down over his shoulders and his sides, providing more protection to these areas, and a collar of metal rose from the top of mail to guard his neck. Above that sat his helmet, with side guards that came down past his ears. His face and forehead were ill-protected, however, save for a short nose guard, and some flecks of his short hair could be seen tumbling down from the rim of the helmet.

As for weapons, Theodastyr bore an iron shortsword, with a moulded, gold-plated handle which, like his tabard, displayed the insignia of House Camlorn. The sword was kept sharp by Theodastyr's retinue of servants and blacksmiths, though it rarely saw enough action to be blunted. In his other hand, Theodastyr carried a round wooden shield, again proudly showing his House's colours and coat of arms, with an iron buckle at the centre. If he lost his sword, at the very least, Theodastyr could bash in an enemy's head. Well, that would be true, had Theodastyr a modicum of skill at fighting.

"Ah, the natives here are vicious brutes, Flacus. They have queer-looking eyes, so they do. Like they have some congenital defect! It's a good thing you killed the [&@%!], so it is. He could have tried to bugger me or whatever queer activities are all the rage in these parts! Oh, bugger, his bum-buddies approach! To arms!" shouted Theodastyr, perhaps not understanding the danger of the situation he found himself, or perhaps being a bit too touched to realise his own inadequacy in battle.

Nora

Nora watched as the scene played out. Maybe it was the intoxicity that dulled her panic, or the fact that rational slowly swelled back. This was of course after her heart skipped a beat when addressed personally, her only reply being a nervous laugh

All she ever knew of these demons came from stories and myth, none of which made them seem ever pleasant especially when their affairs dealt with the Skaal. Even from what little she knew, info regarding the Threads and their significance was made all the more clear. Still, she heavily questioned her fellow 'champions' roles in this plot, and just how pure their souls may be.

With this offer presented, she truly knew not what to do. She wanted nothing to do with these Threads, and yet here was the option to dispose of it truly. This was not like the affairs of Herma Mora covetting knowledge not of his own, this was a Prince wishing for what was his, for what was dangerous to mortals.

She stood back up, regaining her footing with a blade still in hand. Slowly she loosened her grip around the belt, somewhat resolved in her choice. Shortly after Eolywn she answered "W.. what I want is to be rid of this, to have this evil far from where I stand.." She held out her arm towards the bowl 'Was this our only option? Is this the right choice?' the Thread of Sanguine Hewing hanging loosely from her grip, but it did not fall. She hesitated, and for many reasons, but she desperately wanted to let go

'I could ask for anything. The strength to defend my people. The fame I so rightly deserve. The chance to have anything in my desire.. What would Hans the Fox do? Would he think so little of me..' Turning her head away in shame and struggle, she relinquished the Thread without another word
Spoiler:
I think this is an accurate portrayal of how I feel right now :/

Niralie - Windhelm Jail

Niralie wasn't sure what to make of Sanguine's offer. Can we trust him? Before she had much time to think about it, Grelok had already made his decision, and Niralie stared in awe as the new hand was formed. She'd never seen anything like a Dwemer prosthetic, much less one (or at least one that looked like one) formed before her very eyes by a Daedric Prince. She didn't blame Grelok at all for his choice; the loss of a hand was a difficult thing, and it would make his life much easier.

She watched as Eolwyn and then Nora turned in their Threads, and unwrapped the ring from her sleeve, holding it in her hand. I was able to do so much with this, Niralie thought. With it, she felt strong enough to protect herself from nearly anything, stop anyone who wished her or anyone else harm. Then she thought of the pirates, who had first owned it: the destruction they'd wrought on the city, the wounded townsfolk that she had helped heal before meeting with the others for Grelok's conversation. She thought of the death and injuries that she herself had caused with the Thread, and felt sick.

"I used this ring as a force for good," Niralie began, somewhat hesitantly. "If I can do... what I did with it... with good intentions, then I don't want to see what it's capable of when used for evil. If the ring can be removed from Nirn for even a short time, it's probably for the best." She walked forward and placed it in the bowl with the other Threads. A small wave of relief swept through her as she did so; despite feeling powerful earlier, she knew that holding a Thread was a dangerous thing: not only by making her a target for anyone (such as the pirate captain) who was hunting the rings, but also risking changing who she was.

She paused after placing it, realizing that she hadn't thought until now about what she might want. If she could ask for anything she desired... what was it she wanted? She wasn't interested in money at the moment. Some sort of enchanted item perhaps? It seemed almost like a waste to ask for something like that, and she wasn't sure specifically what she'd want anyway. Perhaps there was something else she hadn't thought of - she certainly hadn't considered that the Prince might be able to replace Grelok's hand. "I don't have anything particular in mind, so if you wish to give me something, pick whatever seems fitting," she said at last.

Zudeel - Temple

Zudeel didn't care for the priest's talk about the Nine, but he ignored it and said with his usual neutrality,"It was no problem. Nice to help heal all these people." If the priest gave him a reward, it would be nice, but would not be necessary. It wasn't a contract.

The Cave

Khazi

Khazi had elected to do nothing, and she remained unseen but all-seeing. Her pragmatism would have consequences...

Nammu

Nammu's bolts of lightning soared across the cavern towards their targets, but Nammu's slow pace and distance prevented them from reaching the Falmer in time. The drafty cave lowered the flames for a moment, and that moment was all the eager Falmer needed. The five Falmer who hadn't had an unfortunate meeting with one of the Redguard's arrows leapt towards her. With only her bow in hand and caught by surprise, one of the Falmer slashed at her with a wicked dagger. Rosa's quick step backwards saved her life, but it did not spare her beauty. The dagger dragged itself diagonally across her face and she screamed as the blood poured down.

The Falmer were about to move in for the kill when they suddenly froze as if suspended in time. In the next second, all five disintegrated into ash. It was apparent to all looking on that Nammu had a quite lucrative career in cremation, should he choose to pursue that.

Kelessa

The Falmer lunged towards the spot where Kelessa's blade had scuffed the ground, missing her by inches and leaving his back open to her. Between his helmet and his armor a small strip of skin was exposed.

Theodastyr

Unimpeded by anyone, the Falmer battalion which had raced by Khazi bore down upon the pair of Bretons. However, they seemed focused on one target: Theodastyr.

Flacus was well-regarded for both his intelligence and strength, as well as his devout loyalty and unwavering courage. He sensed their intention and, thinking quickly, Flacus silently shoved the Baronet backwards. Theodastyr tripped over a stone and sat down hard on the ground.

The Falmer swarmed around him, though they did not use the sharp edges of their weapons. With surprising strength, they began to pull Flacus to the ground. Flacus fought wildly, shouting himself hoarse and slashing at everything he could see. But there were too many. His greatsword was knocked out of his hand and he disappeared under the mass of bodies that began to steadily move backwards towards the tunnel from whence they came.

Sees-In-Shade

The three men screamed, the Imperial dropping both his pickaxe and his Talos amulet on the ground. The Redguard and the Imperial hightailed it away from the cave, but the filthy Reachman tripped and was abandoned by his friends.

He began dragging himself backwards, keeping his eyes locked on entrance to the cave. He babbled nonsensically and probably had no idea what he was saying either.

Nammu

He continued on his path towards the Baronet, unfazed by the action he just took. Where before a minor obstacle was, now only ash upon the cave floor. Not even when he neared Rosa did he give notice, as far as he was concerned she hardly existed. He could see to grim wounds and shaken spirits at a later time, right now the Baronet was of more importance, or so it seemed

He waved his hand for a bit, this time aiming to summon a faded wraith, a frightful entity to even the most forsaken soul. "Delay thier retreat.. wreck ruin on these fiends.. and perish as an ample distraction.." his words were paired with a cold appendage, pointing in the direction where Flacus fell amongst the swarm of Falmer, but more importantly away from Theodastyr.

Windhelm Prison

Sanguine raised an eyebrow at Eolwyn's refusal of a gift, but said no more. The Amulet of Sanguine Enterprise fell into the bowl and was consumed by black fire, lighting up another ruby on the outside.

Next was Nora's relinquishment of the belt. Again it was engulfed in ebon flame, making another ruby on the bowl come to life.

"Far away, you say? I may have something to help with that. How's this?" Sanguine stated moreso than asking. A ball of light floated into the air from Sanguine's other hand, and from it appeared a blank parchment that softly floated down to Nora. There was only one part of the parchment filled out; a small circle bearing a beautifully detailed map of the city of Windhelm. "A map. But not just any map. You will see, should you move about from the nearby area, that map will adjust itself accordingly and charter those areas you visit. Once you venture far enough, you will have a reliable guide throughout Tamriel."

Lastly came Niralie's giving of the ring. "Hmmm." Sanguine thought for a moment as the fourth ruby was lit. "I think perhaps, that this is a good spot to start."

Before Niralie's feet, a strapped traveling pouch appeared. Within were five rings, being recreations of some of the rings that she had lost by Arelllius' hands some time prior. "Start up your collection once more with that. And perhaps with the gifting of more Threads, more shall come to you."

They can have whatever single effects you want, Alarra, so long as they're not ridiculous. c:
Valentia rose up from her spot, drying her tears and sniffling. She looked down at the two rings in her hand. One they would need to find the remaining threads, but one she would have to give away. But how could she? Considering what it meant to her...

She let out a deep sigh and looked up at the others, hoping for some words of guidance. Sanguine remained still and silent.

Temple of Talos

Turning to Katlina, the priest smiled and nodded. "Indeed he did. I count our blessings on this day." He said, then looking to Zudeel.

"Thank you, truly. We cannot give enough for your aid. Please, take this." the priest said, removing his own amulet of Talos and offering it to Zudeel. "It is not much, but it is magical... It is the very least I could do."

Dorian - Windhelm Prison

"Do you need all of the Threads right at this moment?" Dorian asked, sensing Valentia's discomfort, "I've seen one of them in action, and it was nothing to scoff at. Her other ring could be useful if we have to fight another Thread-bearer."

Eolwyn - Sanguine Thread party

With only Valentia left to hand over her Threads, Eolwyn watched as the young Breton hesitated.

She was very interested to see how the next few minutes would play out, therefore the Bosmer remained silent, evaluating everyone's words and actions with a keen interest.

Sanguine hummed at Dorian's question. "I don't need them, but I'd be ever-so disappointed if I didn't get them all at present. Ring of Unseen Wisdom excluded, of course; you'll be needing that one to find the others. But yes, Silver Wisdom has to go."

Dorian

"But exactly how disappointed?" Dorian asked, "Like 'Oh bother' disappointed, 'go back to Oblivion and complain to Vaermina' disappointed, or 'smite the puny mortals' disappointed? Because I think we can all agree that the third possibility isn't worth it."

He cast a glance at Valentia with his eyebrows raised as if to say, "Get a move on then."

Kelessa brought her other sword up, slamming it forward aiming to pierce the exposed back of the falmer, her other sword moving to decapitate it, just for insurance.

Theodastyr

The baronet let slip a slight grunt as he fell on his backside. This groan was accompanied by a momentary, pained expression. Immediately, Theodastyr tried to get back up to his feet, so that he could rush to the assistance of his bodyguard. Clad in his armour, this trivial exercise was rather complicated, and he only managed to right himself with much effort. As soon as he was up, he let out a cry and charged into the mass of Falmer to rescue his bodyguard.

"Unhand him, cave urchins! Unhand him, I say! You are not fit to lay hands on a peasant boy, let alone one of my retinue!" he shouted, once more displaying either his unconquerable bravery, or his monumental stupidity.

Zudeel - Temple

Zudeel wasn't much for religion or the Aaedra, but he knew at least they didn't typically corrupt their followers on normal basis. He stretched out his hand to accept the priest's amulet and said with that Zudeel neutrality,"Thank you for your amulet, priest. I'm sure I'll find a good use for it.". Zudeel put the amulet in one of the storage areas on his armor. "Take care.", Zudeel then said with that neutrality.

Niralie - Windhelm jail

Niralie opened the pouch and smiled, delighted by what she saw. In light of everything that had happened in the last day, she'd nearly forgotten her rings. She wasn't sure whether they were the originals or imitations, but they looked the same, right down to her personal mark hidden in the enchanting runes, which she used to identify her work. Three of the rings replenished health, magicka, and stamina faster, while the other two fortified Destruction and Restoration.
"Thank you," she said gratefully to Sanguine, before putting the regenerate-stamina ring on her finger and putting the ring pouch into her bag.

She looked over at Valentia, who seemed to be having trouble deciding. Niralie walked over to her. She remembered Tia telling her how she had lost friends the day she'd gotten the ring. "If the memory of your friends is why you're keeping it, perhaps you can ask Sanguine for a portrait of them?" she suggested gently.

Khazi - Cave

Khazi flinched at the scream. At least she hadn't been the one it had happened to; she'd been safe so far where she was, which was the whole idea.

Her attention was drawn to the old one, and she watched as he fought his way through the creatures. She hadn't realized he was so powerful a mage.

Nora - Windhelm Dungeons

Nora held out the map that suddenly materialized, dumbfounded by it's presence, flabbergasted by the supposed charity. She had no intention to ask for a reward, especially when at the cost of something she so clearly despised. And yet here she held a trinket, certainly harmless and less so than prior expectations. She was to say with mixed feelings about this, and the apparent demon

Striken of words, she watched as the others council'd one another. For the first time since she was in their company she stayed quiet

Windhelm Prison

Sanguine wiggled an amused eyebrow at Dorian questioning. "I owe you a drink, brave young man, and I don't just say that to anyone. I don't find myself quite in the mood to smite anyone... Not at the moment."

Valentia remained quiet as she heard Niralie's suggestion. "No, I..." she muttered quietly, standing up and approaching. "I think... I'm okay knowing that they're being taken care of now." she said, gingerly cradling the Ring of Sanguine Silver Wisdom in her hand before holding it over the bowl. She whispered a quiet goodbye and then dropped the ring into the bowl to return it to Sanguine. In a burst of black flame, Valentia's last physical tie to her old life was gone.

"Lord Sanguine, thank you for these generous gifts, but... if it pleases you, I would like to give my opportunity for a boon to Dorian." she asked, looking back to her fellow Breton. "It... seems only fair, I suppose."

The Daedric Prince looked up at Dorian and shrugged. "I suppose I can manage that. And what would you like, my dear scion? I can think of a few things, but I'll humor a request."

Temple of Talos

"To you as well, brave hero." the priest bade the Argonian. He then turned back to the newly healed people to speak to them individually, offering the counsel of the Nine to them.

Windhelm Prison

"Hm. Very well." Sanguine replied. "Then a gift for a man after my own heart. Check your belt."

Dorian would find a wineskin at his waist. It was dark black with the primary color of his house as an accent, as well as a golden L on the face.

"It looks fancy enough, I suppose, but the real joy is the utility. Whenever you fill this flask, you will find it to be filled for the entirety of the day. It will empty at the crux of midnight each night, and must be filled to the brim anew on a new day in order for its powers to function. I do hope it will find some use on the road, or perhaps at your upcoming feast."

Sanguine stepped back through the bars as if they weren't even there, leaving the bowl at their feet. "Now it is up to all of you. Take this bowl, find a capable mystic, and locate the other threads. I shall continue to monitor your progress with great interest... and perhaps I will find the time to speak to you all again."

With that, Sanguine faded away in a shower of shimmering sparkles, leaving nothing behind. His voice continued to echo throughout the room. "Oh, and don't worry about the guards. They won't be remembering the lovely Seeks-the-Lost. Carry on, and enjoy the evening, my fated darlings."

Grelok - Windhelm Prison
While little enough registered with Grelok while he gawped at his new hand, a near-infinite wineskin broke through his awe. Grelok whistled in appreciation of Dorian's boon, and got up onto his feet. He blinked repeatedly, still somewhat in shock from the whole situation, before he bent down and picked up the offering bowl. "...Well, I know a mystic, actually. It's where I was going to be headed, anyway. I'm leaving in the morning, so those of you interested in coming along..."

Niralie - Windhelm Prison

Niralie felt bad for Valentia, but felt a bit of relief as well: it was for the best that the ring was gone. She was surprised when Tia gave up her reward to Dorian, and impressed by the wineskin. That would be really useful in a battle, filled with potion, she thought.

She remained silent as Sanguine vanished, glad to feel clarity returning to her head. She could still scarcely believe everything that had transpired in the past few minutes. A Daedric prince, remarkable gifts, a quest to find the rest of the Threads...

"Oh, I've realized another mystic that can help us too," Niralie put in after Grelok spoke. "Our fellow Windhelm champion, Quintus Iliad. His specialty lies within the Mysticism field, so he must know scrying spells too - he's pretty high-ranking the Mages Guild, I guess. He already knows about the Threads too, from back in the war room."

Eolwyn - Windhelm Prison

Eolwyn let out a breath as Sanguine vanished and the atmosphere in the room returned to normal. His comment about the guards made her smirk.
"Wouldn't have mattered if the guards did remember that the Argonian was here. They already lost one prisoner today, what's one more?" She said sarcastically.
Due to the whole business with the Threads and, of course, the battle, Nandrnil could be anywhere by now, and she knew him well enough to know that he wouldn't have left a trail.
You're a sly one, Nan. Will you ever be caught? The Bosmer thought to his grimoire that, as yet, she had read only a fraction of. Hopefully, she could read some more later that night.

Eolwyn nodded at Grelok and Niralie's suggestions. "Grand ideas. But for now, how about we forget about Sanguine and have a bit of fun? I think we've all had quite enough excitement for one day, and it would be nice to unwind."
She thought it not to be healthy to focus too much on the finding of more Threads...
