I know there have been plenty of topics on the best plants to grow at home, but I couldn't find a recent one. One of my favorite features of Skyrim is the garden and greenhouse from the Hearthfire expansion. I almost always get the greenhouse for the west wing, instead of the bedrooms or enchanter's tower. I also tend to build all 3 homes so that I can have a greenhouse and garden at each. This still wasn't enough for me, so I got a number of farming mods as well, including Heljarchen Farm and More Soils. (I tried the Heljarchen Farm Field, but it conflicted with Heljarchen Farm since it modifies the same cell.)
I pretty much grow some of everything, since every plantable ingredient has its uses. There are some plants I try to grow in great abundance, specifically:
* Creep cluster, mora tapinella, and scaly pholiota, both because they make the most profitable potion, and because the first two have Restore Magicka.
* Red mountain flower and tundra cotton for Fortify Magicka, plus the latter is a component in the crafting systems of certain mods.
* Dragon's tongue, snowberries, and thistle, which make a dual resistance potion that I always try to carry in case a dragon swoops down.
* Glowing mushroom and nightshade for Fortify Destruction.
* Canis root and imp stool make a Paralysis poison that is useful throughout the game.
However, I recently installed the Requiem mod, which changes the ingredient effects and makes it harder to earn money with Alchemy. I want to know what the best ingredients are to plant in my garden, and if any of the old recipes still work. Any advice for someone just starting out?

One thing I never understood about Alchemy is how you're supposed to chew diamonds, unless you're Kanye West.

I meant in terms of ingredients that I can plant and grow at home. I know several mods add nirnroot, one of which I'm currently using, but I don't plant it because I consider it cheating.legoless wrote:Nirnroots, man. Ten gold a piece at Sarethi Farm.
The only one I found so far is blisterwort + dragon's tongue + fly amanita, which yields a poison of frenzy under Requiem's new system.

You can't plant Nirnroot with Hearthfire? Wow, I was sure I had but the wiki says otherwise.

Here's a link to a list of all alchemic ingredients and their respective effects and values in Requiem.
Nirnroots aren't something you'll want to sell, they make some of the very best poisons. If you're planning to take down dragons with anything else than destruction magic, poisons are your best friend, and Nirnroots are godsend.

Re: Gardening with Requiem?
On the other hand, not everyone uses all the poisons they make. I have to sell most of mine pretty often, as I only find them useful in Dragon fights, but your mileage may vary.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.
