How long do your characters last before deleted?

Post by Daemos Avetorii »

Just wondering about oblivion players, how long your characters tend to last before they bore you and you delete them and start over.

You.... delete your characters? I just.... leave them and make a new character.... They sit in my saves list forever.... I don't see why you would completely delete your character ever.

Yeah, ditto. Bit of a weird poll.

I'd say 3 months. I tend to play my characters until they're higher levels.

A better question might be how much of the game do you play with each character. I usually test a character to around level twenty-five to see how they do against Xivilai in Oblivion worlds. At that point, except for one or two characters, I delete all of my level saves except for the first and last. I have two full game characters (level 50-54) for weapons testing.

o.o Oh. I thought it was common to delete a toon, to avoid saving errors later/loading wrong game. >> seriously this game needs savegame tabs for easier management.
I mean I'm sure you all accidentally saved over an other character while attempting to click load instead. Such things happen.
Even so. I guess you have a point. Was I to delete my Altmer, I'd lose days of effort. His houses in Cheydinhal, Chorrol, and Skingrad, His title of Arch mage. I suppose I might use the console to save his game as "Altmer Mage" and provide clarity to myself that way.

I don't really "delete" my characters, per se, but I do shove 'em into a different folder so the save numbers stay nice and proper. Still, they last however long they last and whenever I get an idea for a sweet new character. Some last a few days, some a few months. It's all variable.

Okay, I had one guy, Renar Stormcloak, who has been with me for some 4 years now. He started out as a dead is dead, but then he died, and I didn't have the heart to end him. So far he's managed to avoid A bomb, I guess I didn't play him that much, I used to play him for about 2-3 days straight, then leave him for a few weeks, before returning to him one long weekend. He's still there, in his little save slot, I may play him again sometime. He's the CoC, but most of what he did was with mods, I had OOO, as well as Kvatch Rebuilt(He was the new count), Ruined Tail's Tale, Tears of the Fiend and the Armour of Malevolence, finally ending with Servant of the Dawn. His sotry was essentially his rise to heroism and descent into evil.

Edit: it wasn't Renar Stormcloak, he was a remake of this guy who never made it that far. It was Renar Longstride, or something like that.

I've only really ever deleted characters when I've reinstalled Oblivion or made some major changes to the mod setup. Most of my old ones are gone because of that. Not much of a loss considering I was never really all that attached to those characters. Which is actually another thing... If I don't like a character, I'll delete them. No sense in keeping a character you don't like.

I haven't done anything major in more than a year now (since February 2014), so Seryna is still kicking around. The unfortunate thing is that Seryna is running out of things to do that fit in with her story. She can't leave the Shivering Isles (as I've written she never returns to Tamriel), so... If this were Skyrim, I would delete Seryna and start a new character... Except I'm too attached to her to get rid of her. We've been through some [&@%!], you know? The main quest, the Arena, the Knights of the Nine, one instance of the a-bomb, and the Shivering Isles. Not to mention all that time spent doing nothing but exploring.

If I didn't like Seryna, there would have been no chance of her lasting this long. Hell, I might even recreate her when the time comes for another reinstall.
Seryna and Vulom... Two characters I just can't get rid of.

Basically whenever I come back to Oblivion after playing a different game for while. For example, I stopped playing around August when Madden 16 came out, and just came back last week after Fallout 4's "new" effect worn off (I think its good, not great). I came back and played all my old characters for a bit, then deleted every last one of them, about 20. First I recreated my "main" character, which is kind of like my completion character, then start making some new roleplay characters.

I delete and remake characters obsessively. I picked "variable" on the poll because the time can range from anywhere between 2 hours to 2 months, but yeah.

It's actually the reason I never really got into PvP in Dark Souls; I delete my characters as soon as they reach the meta-level. I just like small save lists.

As many said, I don't delete characters, I "retire" them (that is, move them to another folder).
Only my first two characters (a Nord and a Redguard whose names I can't remember) got forcibly deleted by a computer crash...

My characters are all people. I made 'em the way I made 'em for a reason. I love 'em all. They're my kids. You don't delete your kids.

I retire them. Sometimes permanently, and sometimes for a year or two, but I keep the save files. They remind of of the many hours of my life I put into helping my make believe kids become stronger adventurers.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

I have a few ES heroes entombed in ancient broken hardware stowed around my house.
