Oh, it's not that bad. Unless it's a Deathclaw, in a not so ideal location. --If you can do enough damage, you can just kill a legendary outright, no mutation. And with the 12.6 times damage I get on melee stealth attacks, most legendaries go down instantly.

I love what you did to the upper levels of the Taffington house! I know how you feel; the Boathouse is a great settlement, and that was my "personal base" too... at least for the first half of the game, until I unlocked Kingsport. Taffington's still an important operations center, however: Piper and Deacon, my two most loyal officers, reside there full-time, and its strategic position (near the Minutemen's center of population, and within Fat-Man-firing distance of my Companion Barracks at Covenant) mean that I still wind up visiting the Boathouse at least once every few in-game days.

Structurally I haven't really done much to the house itself; I've been waiting on a way to build actual sloped roofs, so for now I'm RPing it as if my character patched the roof with nearly-invisible sheets of glass.

^Your character has awesome hair. :D

Taffington is great. My SS resided there for a bit until she hooked up Sunshine Tidings Co-op and now that's her main "northern base" with the Castle being where Preston and the headquarters are located. Codsworth kept complaining about being near water at Taffington, so he got moved along with everyone else. The sufferings of one, I tell ya. Sunshine Tidings has turned out to be an awesome spot. It's sunny, quiet, relatively no drama around, and it has a ton of food and provisioners being sent out of there. I started selling the crops from a few of my settlements and it's making me a tiny profit.

Yeah, I like the Anchorage haircut. It's basically JT Marsh's haircut from Exo Squad, and I'm guessing based on the name that it was in-regulation for the US Army, so it works on an RP level.

Sunshine Tidings was claimed by the Railroad in my game. It's actually a really neat location for a safehouse, because of all those "Save the Robots" posters covering the barn. Not exactly subtle, but it's fun! I don't usually hang out at the Co-Op myself, but it's a good sized settlement (10 settlers) and I've got Danse stationed there full-time (I am hoping that, if and when war breaks out between the Minutemen and the BoS, I can convince Danse to create a dissident, pro-Minutemen faction within the Brotherhood ranks). It's only connected to two settlements - Abernathy and Graygarden (the latter of which is a major synth route) - and IIRC I haven't built ANY shops there yet, but it has good farmland and spacious housing.

Castle is awesome. Castle's my third largest settlement in terms of residents (behind Sanctuary and Starlight) and probably the most important settlement in the Commonwealth from a political and military perspective. Everyone there is a member of the Minutemen (I RP it so the designated Minutemen are officers and NCOs, while the designated Settlers are reservists and contractors) and I've got enough Power Armor there to equip the entire garrison if need be. I usually use the Castle as a dumping ground for loot and equipment that I want to hoard for the time being, but don't consider special enough to store at Taffington or Kingsport, so I guess you could say it's the logistical heart of my empire (even though it's only got a direct land link to two other settlements).

-edit-
Here are screenshots of my Castle
Spoiler:

and Co-Op
Spoiler:
Image
As you can see, I haven't done a lot of work on either of them; Co-Op I barely ever use, and the Caste was already so well-built that I've not felt inclined to add much yet.

-edit edit-
For comparison, here are a couple of my more extensively built-up settlements. Both of these places are looooong past their stock build limit!

Red Rocket, my original "private base", and later, the first settlement designated as the Minuteman Field HQ and my official Companion Barracks. After expanding southwards, I moved most of my unused companions down to Taffington, and then (after I unlocked it) Covenant, but Red Rocket remains a key military fortification, guarding the entrance to the Serene City of Sanctuary Hills. By tradition, permanent residents at The Rocket are highly-trained soldiers, scavengers, and adventurers, but in recent times that requirement has been waived; nowadays, Red Rocket is not so much a defensive outpost as it is a residential district within the Greater Sanctuary-Rocket-Abernathy Metropolitan Area. However, it does continue to maintain the largest stockpile of Power Armor north of the Charles River.

County Crossing, known to its residents as "The Cross". The regional capital of Revere County, an area that includes most of the territory east of Malden and west of Revere, it is a cramped, soggy, and often miserable settlement. Nevertheless, it became very important due to it's location: proximity to an open marsh, numerous Minuteman farming communties, and the (formerly) Free City of Bunker Hill, turned this place into one of the single largest caravan hubs in the entire Commonwealth. More of its residents serve as provisioners and Brahmin drovers than any other settlement in the Commonwealth (hence the two-story barn in the upper right-hand corner). Fun fact: the Cross currently fields the best sports teams in the Commonwealth, thanks in no small part to the training yards found at the nearby National Guard barracks.

Curie is my waifu, too. I got her somewhat later in the game - after I'd maxed relationships with Piper and Cait - but of my three concubines she's the one I use the most. She lives at Kingsport when I'm not using her (along with Rylee and Tina de Luca), but I almost always use her, especially now that I've finished unlocking every companion perk in the game.

Here's my Curie; she's specced as a ninja-nurse, and her BoS gear is what SoleSurvivor used to wear until he got that grossly-overpowered ballistic weave Red Sox uniform of his. Spoilers for Curie, post-loyalty quest

Hey, guys. I'm loving all the pictures of your characters and settlements. It's always fun to share this sort of stuff. :D

Doros, I really like what you've done with County Crossing. It's challenging building up these settlements. I've got a strong list going (like 15, I think) but only a handful of them are large.

By the way, I made a little video/virtual tour of Sunshine Tidings Co-op. It's still under construction and after this was filmed, I threw up one more cabin with a few extra beds. There was some unfortunate drama that broke out during the movie making but it was just another day in the Commonwealth.

The first cabin is Chloe's. She resides there with MacCready & Dogmeat. Piper likes to sleep in that cabin, too, so she has her own bed now. You can find Codsworth cleaning out the cabins making beds, and also during meal times in the mess hall tending to the settlers. Preston helps out with the farm work a lot and it's nice having him at the headquarters since he's so valuable to the cause.

Far as followers go, Chloe is a mercenary so she uses MacCready most of the time. They extort and threaten their way through the Commonwealth, often solving people's problems for a bag full of caps. He encourages her pickpocketing, stealing, and violence...but somehow has a real issue when she takes chems. *shrugs*

Dogmeat loves taking down raiders, but his main job is guarding the co-op. Piper is bff so she tags along to help Chloe clear out settlements and help people overall. And Codsworth...well...he currently hates his mistress. He called her a criminal and even threw Nate's memory in her face ("if only he knew what you were capable of, Mum!"). So getting him to come along is like pulling teeth, although threatening him with bodily harm seems to do the trick. He also has a fondness of showing up inside her cabin during pillow talk sessions...weird, huh?

Cait, Danse, and Valentine currently reside at Abernathy farm since they're used less, but I'm thinking of moving them to the Castle since it seems to get attacked a lot. Anyway, here's my virtual tour. :D

Settlements are a HUGE part of the game. I've spent at least half of my playtime building crap so far. I was actually thinking it might be nice to start a thread dedicated specifically to showcasing your settlements and how you've been building up (or further destroying) the Commonwealth; we've got a General Fallout thread, and a Post Your Character thread, so why not a Post Your Commonwealth?

I like what you did with the Co-Op, particularly the interiors; it looks like a very cozy place! But, ermmm, why were all those settlers attacking you? Were they synths, or did MacReady try and murder some of them?

Speaking of MacReady, I was very conflicted about him. Once I figured out who he was, I wanted to put a bullet in his head (again). Frankly, I'm surprised he's still alive - I guess he must have survived the infamous massacre which Titus, Slayer of the Brotherhood and il-Khan of the Capital Wastes, committed at Little Lamplight. Still, I couldn't think of any plausible RP reason for Cranston-the-Survivor to flat out murder MacReady, so he's still in the Commonwealth... for now.

The status of my companions is as follows (note - haven't finished the main quest. Did all the side quests up until the point where you need to pick a faction; thus, all companions are still loyal):
Spoiler:
Dogmeat used to live at Sanctuary, where I bought him a harem of no fewer than three Junkyard Dogs. Currently he lives in a nice doghouse at Taffington, which he helps to guard.

Piper was my original waifu and one of my BFFs. Pretty reliable, if a little underpowered with that pistol of hers. She's been appointed an intelligence officer in the Minutemen, and currently resides at Taffington, overseeing our "PsyOps" program (a fancy name for printing out leaflets and writing radio broadcasts).

Deacon is my "other" BFF. He's also been drafted into the Intelligence corps, and resides at Taffington along with Piper. He's in charge of synth-human relations, covert special operations, and maintaining contact with the Railroad ("Professor" Cranston himself is a proven Heavy operative, although his loyalty has always been first to the Minutemen, and relations with the Railraod are starting to sour over Cranston's relationship with the Institute).

MacReady is a designated sniper, and lives at Covenant - formerly a free city, which fell into Minuteman hands after a brief but incredibly bloody war. He trains new recruits in marksmanship.

Cait is another romantic partner of mine. I like using her in scavenging operations, but she doesn't play well around settlers. Like most of my companions, she's currently assigned to Covenant, and her main job is training recruits in close-quarters combat tactics.

Hancock - another "Bestie", Hancock is my right-hand ghoul, and a key political figure within the Commonwealth. The Minuteman Constitution is still in its infancy, but if I ever stabilize the Commonwealth, I am betting my libertarian ghoul pal will be our first president. Lives at Covenant, is in charge of the entire city.

'Colonel" Preston is the second-in-command of the Massachusetts Minutemen, and as such, resides at The Castle. He's fiercely dedicated, but I tend to avoid him, as his nagging about quests gets on my nerves.

Valentine still works as a private investigator, but I've given him unlimited access to any resources he might want, allowing the Valentine Detective Agency to find missing persons anywhere in the Commonwealth. Hancock STRONGLY objects to the creation of any kind of centralized police force, but if it ever comes to that, Valentine will be placed in charge.

Strong has yet to find the Milk of Human Kindness, but I am hoping to one day build him his own theatre, so he can at least perform Shakespeare for the people of the Commonwealth. He lives at Covenant, and is the go-to bodyguard for any VIPs.

Codsworth HATED me for months after I gave Mama Murphy some Jet, but I finally got him back on my good side. I used to keep him at my main house so he could act as my personal butler, but I got sick of him saying "FERAL GHOULS", so I banished him to Covenant along with the rest.

Danse is alive and well, living at Mercer safehouse (Sunshine Co-Op). He introduced Cranston to the Brotherhood, and while war with our thus-far allies now seems to be approaching, I am hoping that Danse might be persuaded to lead any politically-moderate, player-friendly, or just plain disgruntled Brothers who might like to "go native" and side with the people of the Commonwealth. (Haylen, please maybe?)

^ I think sharing settlements is awesome and I'm glad to see it finally being done. :D

I also like what you did with the followers, etc. Giving them tasks is fun and adds more to the experience. Agreed about MacCready, but he's grown on me in a major way. He's a badass during fights (Piper is also) and his comments crack me up constantly. He also really loves Chloe so I can't fault him for that. XD

The settlers were upset about her killing one of the provisioners. It wasn't, however, done in cold blood. Chloe and MacCready had a falling out and they began shooting at one another. The provisioner got involved and after numerous attempts to pacify her, Chloe finally had to take her down. And by that point, MacCready had calmed down enough that he defended her against the other two settlers shooting at her. It was weird...and not fun to take down 3 settlers (which she had to replace btw).

Danse is a good follower. I like that he's a tank. He's also very charming and I'm not sure yet where his relationship with my SS will end up. Probably nowhere good since everyone hates her at the moment. :/

Danse is a doofus, but he's endearingly doofy, especially once you hit the third and fourth relationship threshold. One of the reasons why I'm not following through with any of the end-game quests is because I suspect that, without mods, the game will turn Danse against me if I start shooting up the BoS, and I'd feel bad havign him as my enemy.

Oh, and I forgot to mention X6-88. He's just hanging out in the Institute these days. I can't really bring him around my "other friends", for obvious reasons...!
Spoiler:
Assuming Cranston goes with the Institute, I'd like to turn the Institute into a more liberal and less New World Orderish place. If I can reconcile the Institute with the Commonwealth, I'll gladly bring X6-88 out of hiding... but right now, he's giving everyone the creeps.

Might wanna watch what does and doesn't count as a spoiler there, Doros.
Spoiler:
Only because MacCready being around isn't something everyone knows about.
Here's Alistair (and his Settlement Federation) summarized, including his interactions with the BOS. Spoilers, of course. Like, endgame spoilers. Don't say I didn't warn you!
Spoiler:
Alistair ("Al" to very, very few people) Freeman, codename Whisper, is super pro-synth. His first contact with one was good ol' Nick Valentine, and since they became good friends, he simply saw no reason to see them as anything but human, with a few extra parts on the inside.

So, he took his position of political power as the General of the Minutemen and worked alongside the folks of the Railroad to promote the rights of Synths everywhere in the Commonwealth. There were two major obstacles in the way of that goal, however; the Institute, and the Brotherhood of Steel.

He wasn't quite aware of his feelings for the Synths when he joined the Brotherhood, and came to realize what he opposed about the Brotherhood's views after he met people like Valentine and Hancock.

Resolving to try and change their minds through example (and a healthy dose of foolhardiness), Alistair loaded up his Power Armor and took a similarly armored Nick to the Prydwen. There he presented his case to Elder Maxson. As Alistair suspected, Maxson disagreed; violently.

In an effort to defend Nick, Alistair fought and killed Elder Maxson, as well as many other Brotherhood Soldiers on their way off of the Prydwen. Their escape was a success, but sparked a war between the Minutemen and the Brotherhood; one that was inevitably going to start anyway.

Thankfully, under Alistair's guidance, the Minutemen had grown to be a force to be reckoned with. The town of Sanctuary had become the booming center of the Freeman water business, which went along to fund the Minutemen's operations in the Commonwealth. Also working to generate profits, the Red Rocket Truck Stop was converted into the famed Red Rocket Taphouse, and became a central tavern for Commonwealth travelers everywhere. Alistair and his companions use it as a base of operations between missions.

Sunshine Tidings Co-op had become a shipping center for all of the Minutemen/Railroad allied settlements in the Commonwealth, and also became renowned for the popular Steele Brothers Bed & Breakfast. Lastly, the Castle, with its newly repaired walls and manned artillery, was more than a match for most aggressors that sought to stake a claim on the heart of Freeman's Water Empire.

The true goldmine of the water purification business, however, turned out to be the Starlight Drive-In. In the center of the old drive-in was a deep reservoir of water that, once purified, provided a large source of water to be bottled and distributed to merchants all over the Commonwealth. A large fortress was built around the reservoir, defended by Minutemen soldiers and turrets alike.

Still, for all the caps the Minutemen were raking in, they were sure to donate sizeable portions to the people, for the General ultimately refused to stray too far from the Minutemen's original goal; to unite and provide for the people of the Commonwealth. Organic or otherwise.

There still remains the true threat to the Commonwealth and its prosperity; the shadowy Institute, led by Alistair's aged son Shaun. His original goal when leaving Vault 111 was the unhindered search for his son, but Alistair soon felt his loyalties shift as he established relationships with those who aided him during his search Shaun, and as he felt his hope diminish over the months. The final nail in the coffin was meeting his son in the heart of the Institute. Having seen all the evil that the Institute had wrought upon the people of the Commonwealth, the people Alistair had come to love and desired to protect, Alistair could not stand by Shaun's wishes and vowed to topple the Institute no matter the cost.

After all, he brought Shaun into the world, and he could take him out.

Now Alistair leads the Minutemen and coordinates their efforts with the Railroad, all in the chaotic fight for the Commonwealth against both the Institute and the Brotherhood of Steel. Of course, he makes plenty of time to poke around the streets of Boston between missions, yearning to find relics of the past world he once lived in.

Also, have some videos of him in action. Because why not? Boston gets crazy [url=when Vertibirds are in the air[/url].
Also, have a tour of my Red Rocket Taphouse. I'm pretty proud of the monstrosity. More spoilers, specifically for Curie.

Whoa, that settlement is awesome! Way to go, Union. :) It looks like you've put a lot of time into it and now I'm interested in seeing some of your other settlements.

I've only done a teeny bit of work at the Red Rocket Truck Stop. It's small, about 10 people right now, but I'm taking my time building monstrous settlements.
