@Dirty Spaceman: UofW was one of my top three choices as well, because of their co-op program. I ultimately chose Mac because it was closer to home (grew up in Oakville). What year are you in?

The issue with that report is its flawed.. or misunderstood really <_< its not just bacon, but most red meats in general. Yes, some chemicals, artificial additives, n preserves are leading causes but the study was directed at the meat itself

@Dirty Spaceman: Ahh, a frosh. I remember those days... the sweet innocence of youth. If only I'd known what was to come...
Just kidding... sort of. I do remember first year was hard, second and third were each harder still. Fourth year was still a lot of work, but at least there was the feeling that you were going to make it. Sounds like you're doing pretty well and enjoying it, though.
So what do I do now? Believe it or not, nothing to do with comp eng. I worked for several years as a LAN/WAN design engineer in Ontario before I got tired of the grind, packed up my things, and headed out west in search of a simpler lifestyle. I've worked as a tour guide, shuttle driver, hiking guide, and B&B manager, among other things. Now I make soap for a living. No, really. I do. And I still find myself using a surprising number of engineering principles in my day-to-day work.

I've spent most of my adult life unemployed. Why? Because life decided to kick the [&@%!] out of me, jobwise. With a fair amount of luck, i should get another jurb by christmas! if not, no traditional feasting on seafood followed by the traditional "Oh god, i ate too much" followed by the Thu'um being used.

Seafood for crimbo. Nice.
I don't like the Frankenstein's monster that is those meats you get where there's four birds wrapped around each other. It just seems wrong (and the flavours would surely all mingle to produce a weird concoction)? Saying that, I haven't tried it, but it never seems appealing enough to do so.

Did we forget?
I tell you what I did forget- that I had cheese yesterday -and then had a load today because I thought I hadn't had it in a while.
The weather has been foggy the last few days, so saving the firework gathering for the weekend.

I'm doing economics with law, though. From what I've gathered from friends in engineering, that's difficult from the start.

Re: General Discussion
Hah, that's actually really cool! It's amazing the places life takes you, I guess. I'm an aspiring writer (I'm currently sitting on a completed-pending-revision novel), and if I ever find enough success there, I'd consider leaving a computer engineering career to take up that alone - but, whatever happens down the road, I definitely want that comp eng career first. I spent a lot of time figuring out which type of engineering was best for me (choosing engineering itself was easy, heh), and I'm in this for the long haul.Wolfborn wrote:So what do I do now? Re: General Discussion
@Dirty Spaceman: Writing's fun, isn't it? I did quite a bit of writing myself, purely for fun, back when I was your age. Never had anything published (yet), but I'm thinking of giving it a serious shot come the new year (I've already arranged to cut my hours at my full-time job to give myself enough free time to get back into it). What genre is your novel?
I make bar soap. We use only vegetable oils and lye (sodium hydroxide) for the base, and essential oils and natural botanicals as additives. We do have liquid soap in our product line, but I've never made that (we have someone come in and make that for us).Aarah wrote:@Wolfborn -What kind of soap do you make? Bar or gels?
You mean turducken. Chicken stuffed into a duck stuffed into a turkey. Friends of mine bought one at Christmas once and invited a whole bunch of people over to help eat it. I thought it tasted pretty good (they are all fairly similar birds, after all). And, in the varied pastiche that has been my life, I did work at a deli once (for about 8 months) where they made these things. I wasn't involved in the making, though.Aarah wrote:I don't like the Frankenstein's monster that is those meats you get where there's four birds wrapped around each other.
