Mythic Dawn Oblivion Modding Guide by Hishutup and updated this year by Synthetik.
It's a S.T.E.P. style guide.
I wanted to kill some time waiting for Fallout 4 and since I have Skyrim and Morrowind looking good and playing well, I thought I'd see if I could get Oblivion to their level.
Has anyone used this guide and what were your impressions of it?
Thanks

Re: Has Anyone Used This Modding Guide?
Back in my modding days, no... But I wish I had it at the time. This guide covers everything from major overhaul mods to little things like new items. Seems pretty comprehensive and I may even use it if I decide to replay Oblivion one of these days.
EDIT: I'd like to mention that this guide does use Wrye Bash pretty heavily, and I, personally, don't believe Wrye Bash (or "cleaning" mods with TES4Edit) is necessary. Save yourself the extra time and do it without all the Bash [&@%!]. Use Nexus Mod Manager instead.

I'm not much of a hand with Bash but since the guide uses it, I'll learn to use it.VirtualWeasel wrote: ... Why ... because when I followed the S.T.E.P guide for Skyrim, using MO and cleaning with TES5Edit, I got the most stable Skyrim install I've ever had.

I've only ever had bad experiences and headaches when using it, but if it's worked for you in the past, then sure, go for it. I'm more of a manual install kind of guy anyway

Re: Has Anyone Used This Modding Guide?
An update.
It was a less than stellar installation.
I should have realized I was in for a rough ride when the last mod, Oblivion - Enhanced Carera, of the OBSE Mods section (it's the 1st f'in' section) was specifically mentioned in the very next mod to be installed, Oblivion Reloaded - OBGE v4, CONFLICTS section "...You cannot use it with Enhanced Camera.". No 1st person perspective with both active.
There were instructions for updating the BOSS Master List that were impossible to follow.
e.g. The Guide's instructions for installing Oblivion Grass Overhaul call for unchecking the Grass Overhaul.esp.
The very next instruction is a BOSS Master List Update Required: Grass Overhaul.esp TOP Quests and Locations 4.
I'm not sure how you do that when the esp is unchecked and not active.
Overall it produced an excellent looking Oblivion, except where Better Cities got hosed by the Unique Landscape's patches.
Pulled UL and all patches for it.
FCOM installed with no problems that I saw in the limited time I played.
MY frame rate varied between 60 (inside) and 15 (outside in the vicinity of Chorrol) with lots of stutter and chop.
Much better without UL (30-60).
It sounded marvelous.
OBGE v4 is a definite step up from v3.
MOBS - Medieval Oblivion Equipment Balance System and it's companion mod MOBSification of MODS - Weapon Balancing produced some active plugins with lots of missing Masters, when installed as instructed.
CTD hell!
Bash slowed appreciably after about 100 installs.
Taking 10-13 minutes/mod to install toward the end of the install but I'm no hand at Bash and it could have been my fault.
There was a lot more that worked properly than didn't work right.
I'll use a lot of it's component parts and Bash again but I can't recommend this guide in it's entirety.
Well, it was a partial success.
It did kill a lot of time while I was waiting for Fallout 4 to unlock.

Re: Has Anyone Used This Modding Guide?
I just looked at Mythic Dawn. It is very outdated now. It also errs deeply in emphasizing form over function (read, "graphical looks being more important than being able to actually run without crashing").
I have recently created a trainer so someone without any modding experience can build a basic, generic, and extremely stable, modded Oblivion very easily. It is very unlike the section in UESP called Oblivion Mod:Complete Installation Guide for Oblivion. That guide gives in-depth technical details and related jargon on all things about modding. My trainer is a precise, SIMPLE click-by-click directions for someone who doesn't want to learn everything about modding, they just want to play a modded Oblivion ASAP.
I am not sure what is the best way to advertise the availability of my training course package. It's not a video. I think if people understand what my trainer is, and is not, there would be a lot more new and rekindled interest in playing Oblivion.
I created posts at OctopusOverlords and RPGWatch that have information about my trainer and download links. I have never found anything on Nexus Mods like my trainer. If anyone understands how my approach to Oblivion is unique, please help me make it easily available to a larger audience.
