Orsinium Announced!

Post by baratron »

http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us ... -new-video

Those of you who've known me for a while will probably be unsurprised to hear that my first comment is "BEAR!".
Image

Rideable bear mount and bear cub pet! Oh yeah...

There's also new Crown Store stuff, some of it the "Halloween-themed" items that Legoless mentioned before.

Also in small text near the bottom of that page, it says that the Daedrat pet and Mind-Shriven Horse will be removed from the Crown Store on November 2nd. So buy those now if you still want them.

I must say, I'm very curious about how these features are going to work:
  • A colossal new zone available to characters of all levels
  • Special harvest nodes that scale to the most advanced material type your character can use for crafting
  • LFG improvements – cross-alliance dungeons
  • Champion Point cap & catch-up system
Also, Gamepad support and PROPER Subtitles? Wow . Although I actually hope that adding native gamepad support doesn't interfere with my current gamepad/keyboard hybrid, which works wonderfully for me.

Oh yay. An Arena with those Dwemer fan things that always killed me dead in Skyrim. Also, pretty sure that Giant-Wife just used Unrelenting Force, which is something that's just broken in the hands of someone already that damned big and strong.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Reasonably well, I think.
  • Special harvest nodes that scale to the most advanced material type your character can use for crafting[/list
Not as well as they would like.
  • LFG improvements – cross-alliance dungeons
Better than you may expect.
  • Champion Point cap & catch-up system
[/list]
OMG WTF BBQ. Have you seen how many XPs are required for getting 400+ CPs now? It's more than double the XP you need for one VR. Someone has misplaced the definition of "catch-up".

So CP catchup is for those lagging behind rather than those trying to reach the cap? Can't say I'm too pleased.

That was my immediate reaction as well, but it looks like they do much less damage.

"Groups can now be formed across all three alliances. It is entirely possible for two Aldmeri characters to team up with an Ebonheart and Daggerfall duo to complete a dungeon."
If this works fine, will rock!

I think this is totally ok, and I say that as somebody who already has over 400 points. Sure, it'll take me ages to level up more of them, and that's fine. I'm already overpowered.

I think it hurts mid-range people more than anything.

Casual players - do NOT waste your crowns on Orsinium!! Despite Zenimax' hype, it is NOT AT ALL a solo-friendly zone!! The early parts main quest takes you to a Briarheart fortress, where you have to face a GROUP BOSS!! This boss takes about half your HP in ONE hit, constantly spams AoE, and constantly spawns adds that hurl arrows at you. And the ONE companion you get, is, as usualy with companions in this game, not of any use AT ALL (some Orc king, ROFL).
Make ZOS hurt the only place they'll feel it an BOYCOTT ORSINIUM - at least until they make it an ACTUAL solo-friendly zone.

I suppose it's a matter of perspective. In normal alliance zones, you've also got anchors, world bosses and public dungeon bosses, all of which could give trouble to some soloing players. That doesn't mean the alliance zones are "NOT AT ALL a solo-friendly zone," or at least not how I'd define it.

This isn't a world boss, it's the FIRST BOSS in the MAIN QUEST of the zone - the questline you HAVE TO COMPLETE in order to get the achievment for the zone.

What sort of build are you? Perhaps we can help you figure out how to get past it then, since it's clearly a boss that's intended to be soloed.

Even the game's Main Quest has solo boss fight bottlenecks (*cough* Duchess of Anguish). Orsinium is very much soloable, but unlike the Alliance zones you have to git gud.

The new Wrothgar section in the wiki is coming along fine

As for me, the world bosses I've fought (naming Nyzchaleft, King-Chief Edu and the Mad-Ogre-which-name-I-don't-remember), were all for large groups of players. They're part of the daily quests you can take up in Orsinium.

I now know the boss you mean, and actually he is very hard. Unexpectedly so. The principal problem is that his ice attacks drain your Stamina (and Magicka? not sure) so you can't easily dodge or roll away, and his AoEs are massive. I actually died to him 3 times with Martin, who is actually v16 rather than battle-levelled to v16.

Frankly, I don't know how a Stamina melee build would handle this boss at all. I eventually completed this part of the quest by standing at a distance out of AoE range using my Destruction Staff and other spells, and dropping a Storm Atronach whenever too many of the adds spawned.

I roll a stamina melee build geared completely as a tank with very little DPS, and I had absolutely no problem with that boss. Ranged attacks make it easier to deal with the arrow adds, but I still managed several rounds fine with just sword and board.

I think the fight might be solo instanced, which is always a little aggravating if you get stuck on a boss like that, but it's hardly the first such quest to do so in ESO, nor the hardest. Perhaps it was an issue with battle levelling - are people trying him on non-VR16 characters?

Ok, with a v1 stamina templar argonian on a borrowed account that has 16 champion points, with blue random lvl 44 gear, I killed him first try without any trouble. All I can suggest is not standing in the huge red circle.

I have great trouble seeing red circles against white snow. They are insufficiently red for my liking.

They are not as bad as the white (or pale blue) circles on the map though, which are completely invisible against the white snow. I didn't even realise that the quest involving the Mad Ogre World Boss had more than one place to find book pages until today, because I hadn't seen any of the other locations marked on the map .

How's everyone getting on? I have been confusing myself by exploring Wrothgar with both Martin and Bjornolfr, though I've now unlocked all of the crafting areas and no longer need to wander with Bjorn. I figure that Martin must still have a lot of Main Quest to do since he has only achieved one of the four objectives needed for the Main Quest Achievement.

I'm not sure who decided there was 20 hours of gameplay in the Wrothgar DLC. Presumably someone who is not obsessed with getting all the crafting nodes on the map.

That quest (and at least one other of the world boss quests) is bugged, and the circles for the secondary parts of the quest (the parts that don't involve killing the boss) will sometimes disappear once you've killed the boss.
