Re: Lore General Discussion!
They to seem to be just average mer/mortals.. minus the whole chaotic shapeshifting that borders the scenes from nightmares... Honestly aside from the suspected origin of the khajiit or the fact daedra have the means to produce change yet never creation... not alot is known about the Wild Hunt nor their deity whom envokes stability >_> though that hasnt stopped alot of fans sharing the same theories.
Personally hircine seems like a fellow who fancies these traits, yet his involvement seems void. Idk why. I guess he just prefers beasts and monsters of his own craft over ever changing flesh

Re: Lore General Discussion!
There are actually two Wild Hunts. One is a Daedric event that regularly happens in the Chimera of Desolation.
As for the kinds of monsters you might see, the final Aldmeri Dominion quest in ESO shows you a vision of an apocalyptic Wild Hunt, and it's pretty much just feral Bosmer and werewolves. Game limitations, of course.

According to legend, the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal was made from a pilfered dress of Nocturnal's. Would that technically make any Gray Foxes basically panty thieves who wear their "plunder and booty" on their heads?

Thanks for all the info. A very enigmatic event in the TES lore indeed.... Wondering if it will ever be touched on in any of the future games. Eh, we can all dream I guess. Anyways, thanks again!
Merged double post.
Has anyone ever stated how long Bosmer can remain in their feral state?BetaB17 wrote:Honestly aside from the suspected origin of the khajiit

They say the wild hunts are where all the unnatural monsters that exist in Tamriel originate, so possibly indefinitely as they would need to breed and survive to produce said offspring.AngryArgonian wrote:Has anyone ever stated how long Bosmer can remain in their feral state?BetaB17 wrote:Honestly aside from the suspected origin of the khajiit
I have a question: Has anyone actually been shown doing incantations in lore? Other than long drawn out rituals, it seems that spells are more based in the will of one's mind than anything else.

Re: Lore General Discussion!
In the Dance in the Fire series (I think that's the name) it says that the wild hunt last only long enough until everything in the area is dead. Afterwards the wild hunt consumes itself. Not sure if this is true since it might just be complete fiction or at best embellished truth.

Re: Lore General Discussion!
The Wild Hunt in A Dance in Fire self-destructed because it had been trapped by the Khajiit within the valley, an unexpected event on part of the hunt's summoners. Who knows how it would have dispelled if it had been allowed to run unabated.

Re: Lore General Discussion!
If memory serves, in Morrowind you could 'read' magic scrolls like any other book; they were in Deadric I think.... That might be an example. Also there might be incantations involved when turning into a lich, but it might just be a potion I heard referenced somewhere.Hissien wrote: I have a question: Has anyone actually been shown doing incantations in lore? TVTropes is a legit good resource for Lore. Also, http://www.newwhirlingschool.com/, dissecting 36 Lessons of Vivec. You probably all know of this, though.

Re: Lore General Discussion!
I wonder if I'm getting this right— the levels of learning a particular school of magic:
The Novice learns the fundamentals of the school— its practices and philosophies. At this point they choose whether or not to pursue further study.
The Apprentice discovers in their explorations just how much they don't know about the school.
The Adept is then supplied the tools and discipline needed in order to take on the task of learning their school.
The Expert acquires the skills and practices of their school, achieving control and understanding.
The Master then has the ability to press their studies further into the experimental stage, making a new contribution into the collective knowledge of their school and passing it down to new students.

Re: Lore General Discussion!
Quick topic >_> one relating to the origin of the Et'ada.
I understand most Daedra are of Padomay's blood, with Lorkhan being an extension to Sithis. The Magna'Ge(?) n the Aedra are to be of Anuic influence, with Anue'El the extension to Anuiel. Yet one of the volumes directly mentions those mixed of the two, to help explain the Aedra's potential for good n evil(to bring chaos or stasis), yet I find this conflicts with alot of lore...
We know Miredia is of Anu's blood, preferring to make domain in Oblivion than to follow the rest of her kind. There is also Jyggalag, who resembles anything but chaos and may in fact be more Anuic(Sheo may in fact just be as corrupted as Malacath in the same since). We also can see while all 'Daedra' can be rather extreme, not all are inheritantly 'evil', let alone so black n white. Alot of things bring into question what is Aedra n what is Daedra(excluding their literal n proper meanings)
My biggest question is this, while Lorkhan's decent from Padomay makes perfect sense.. Akatosh's seems to conflict
he is to be by extension Anu, and yet he is of mixed blood? Some of his actions n even his children's can fall in line with stasis n chaos, bringing change n order. Yet, for some reason, wouldnt it make sense for an Et'ada of pure anuic decent to be his 'child'? I understand Akatosh is rather significant for bringing in Time, and yet when compared to Magnus he hardly seems like the most powerful <_< Heck, it makes more sense for Magnus to be the one, not Akatosh, especially given his power n purity... Even older representations of Anuiel depicts that of a sun(Ex: the temple in Dawnguard), something that is credited to Magnus for making

Re: Lore General Discussion!
In Oblivion, Baurus said that most people think of the Red Dragon Crown in terms of symbols of the Empire, but that's the first that I've heard of it. Has the Red Dragon Crown been mentioned anywhere else, or do those "most people" not exist, kinda like how the Staff of Chaos is never mentioned again after Arena?

Re: Lore General Discussion!
I take it that the diamond-shaped dragon emblem is what he's referring to when "most people think of" such things, and no doubt in my mind that the crown would be the source of that emblem.

Why would the Empire need a "launching point into Morrowind"? And in case of what?

Re: Lore General Discussion!
If the Dominion managed to overrun Stonefalls and other areas in western Morrowind, that would be another entry point to wage war in Cyrodiil. I doubt they fear the Dunmer and Argonians directly, but rather that a large force of Bosmer or Khajiit could run through those areas and push the Argonians and Dunmer away, especially since both groups were weakened early in the 4th Era (Dunmer by Red Year. Argonians were decimated during the Umbriel event.)
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Aren't there some funky world-rending gizmos in Morrowind? The Thalmor may take an interest in that, so the Empire takes an interest in Morrowind, too.

Re: Lore General Discussion!
Idk about that >_> Black Marsh alone has proven too challenging to invade, Tiber Septim proves this, n when a greater threat appears it is the hist that coordinate a means of defence(i.e Oblivion Crisis). Outside of their own turf or along the borders, the Dominion can fight on without contest.
Morrowind, of what little te Dunmer still have, is in a weakened state. They stand no chance to wage war, even Skyrim came to their aid. As of now, with their loss of territory by both disaster n invasion, they palein their former glory. It'll be a slaughter if the Dominion invaded in full force.
As per Dwemer n some Chimer artifacts, I can see their interest but not strongly so. The Imperial City holds more worth, what with the Staff of Chaos n other artifacts in stockpile

If the Champion of Cyrodiil is a vampire, or even if s/he is not, would s/he end up being called "Dracula"? After all, they end up joining the Order of the Dragon: http://uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Order_of_the_Dragon Similar thing with the Last Dragonborn. Also, for those who have no historical knowledge, "Dracula" means Son of the Dragon, and the real life Vlad III was a member of the Order of the Dragon: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Dragon

What, no love for the Nerevarine?
From seventh sign of eleventh generation,
Neither Hound nor Guar, nor Seed nor Harrow,
But Dragon-born and far-star-marked,
Outlander Incarnate beneath Red Mountain,
Blessed Guest counters seven curses,
Star-blessed hand wields thrice-cursed blade,
To reap the harvest of the unmourned house.

In this instance, I'd take Dragon-Born with the dash in the middle to indicate someone from the heart of the Empire, rather than someone with the literal blood of Akatosh.
