Should Bethesda make a Tes MMO?
Personally, i think it would ruin the detail of the the game, like being able to pick a fork of a table and fling it at someone, i'm sure some things would be cool, but the risks outweigh the good, if they make another elder scrolls adventures game, maybe ARGONIAN,
just kidding, i can't wait for another Tes game, not a spin off

I think it would ruin the factor. For me the point of Oblivion was that you could become a hero or villain, and everyone would fear or respect you. Having it as an MMORPG would really ruin that. The other players wouldn't know who you were at all. What I would think would be cool, is if all the cities are normal, except for one, where when you enter, it connects to Xbox live (I'm on Xbox so pc and ps3 you can do internet or the one for ps3) and that city had an MMORPG section so that it wouldn't completely overtake the game and make chaos, but it wouldn't eliminate the idea completely.

It would be interesting I'm sure , but I think it would ruin it. I do like the interaction online in MMOs' but the elder scrolls need to stay the way they are and not get ruined by 4 million ten year olds and thier useless chatter and rudeness.
I think private servers might be neat. That way the requirements to play and join a server to play on would vary greatly.
If I was to run a server, there would be a test people would have to take and pass before I let them on, and the first sign of BS from them would get them the instaboot/permaban.
Ok, im a curmudgeon.

Personally, i think it would be a bad idea.
People would only go PvP, forget the Main Quest, Hack, Cheat, Exploit Glitches, exploit bugs, dupe items, etc. etc.I
It could be pretty cool, if you could do a Multi-Player Campaign, where you could help eachother with the guilds, quests, however the player you played with should be your own level.
And, you could always switch back to single-player campaign.
This might be a little Off-Topic but i found this on PES: OblivionReborn
I havent tried it though.

Something similar was done for Morrowind, but it was very buggy and I could never get it to work right.
That being said, TES could possible work with multiplayer, just not in MMO form. I could see how it would be fun to adventure with a very small party in the TES world, but no more than that on each "sever". But even then, issues arise and it's still not perfect.

LAN-style server gameplay wouldn't hurt the TES series, but a fully fledged MMOG would butcher the TES series. x_x
MMOGs are still fun though.
Just leave that to games already well affiliated with online play.
Edit: How the game would handle conflicting mods? (Or not having the mod at all) Who knows. Maybe users pick which mod is accepted into the server beforehand? (In the case of conflict.) Requiring temporary (or permanent, if you request) install of someone's mod? (If one user doesn't have the mod you're running.)

The Dragon's Moon.I accidentally voted wrong, I assumed the poll question would be the same as the thread title, so I voted yes.
I've said it before, and I still do not think that TES would make a good MMORPG.

Help? Help with what? They don't make a cure for stupid. You'll just have to play through the game all over again. - Butterknife

Making a poll that asks the exact opposite of your thread's title is a good way not to get a meaningful result.

[oops, I accidently voted wrong]
It would be.... Interesting. I like to think that you would be able to hire the Dark Brotherhood to assasinate a player you dislike. And other players would be doing the killing! I suppose they would have to blot out account details and just have a generic "Dark Brotherhood [insert rank here]" when sombody went on a mission. [To prevent the person from taking revenge.]
That would be great! Low-level characters who get flamed by high-level characters just because they are a lower level would be able to get retribution! Wow, that wold be so sweet! A player-driven anti-"noob bashing" campaign!

Another thing that could be done is if there is an Arena in the game, than one option for a fight could be fight online. So the RPG aspect stays, but you can play a simple knockout style battle online.
Hi, I'm a Canadian :]
I like that idea a lot, actually. Sort of the best of both worlds, so to speak. The entire city would be populated by PCs. You could have unique multiplayer quests that start here, be able to communicate with others, and then when you want to play one player, just leave the city.Daedricmudcrab wrote:What I would think would be cool, is if all the cities are normal, except for one, where when you enter, it connects to Xbox live (I'm on Xbox so pc and ps3 you can do internet or the one for ps3) and that city had an MMORPG section so that it wouldn't completely overtake the game and make chaos, but it wouldn't eliminate the idea completely.

No. Okay, I've been gone for months, and the first thing I'm going to do on this visit is to say that (in my opinion at least) an MMO would ruin the TES series. I've always seen the niche of the elder scrolls as a fun, deep, single player experience, that doesn't happen anymore. all game makers care about now is the multiplayer aspect, sometimes you just want to do a simplke quest without everyone else and their dog trying to smash your brains in for no good reason.

Diablo 2 esque multiplayer servers for TES wouldn't hurt. (No more than 2 players so it doesn't get hectic.)
With mods;
If there is conflict; allow the users to tell the server which mod to use and which to not use.
If one user has a mod which the other does not;
A: Not use the mod at all.
B: Give the user a temporary version of the mod in question, which removes all its files after they have exited the server. If the user in question likes the mod, they could tell the server not to remove the files afterwards. (Permanent install)
