Re: Fallout 4
I saw Lady Killer on that perk list but no Confirmed Bachelor equivalent. I'd be annoyed if there was no same-sex seduction in the game when there's opposite sex-seduction. But it did say "are easier to persuade" not specifically about seduction which is what it did in 3 and New Vegas. And they say you can romance people regardless of gender. So it'll probably be included.
It would a shame if they made all these improvements to combat but stealth stayed as is. Stealth isn't bad in Bethesda games (it's actually much better than in most RPGs and way better than it was in Fallout 1 & 2) but it could be better. I hope they go back to their stealth roots, take even more inspiration from Thief 1 & 2, improve their stealth mechanics. As is, stealth in Oblivion, Fallout 3 & New Vegas and Skyrim is just a less good version of what those games did with their stealth mechanics. There were a lot of subtleties to Thief's design that made it great, subtleties that games inspired by it haven't really adopted. For example, in Skyrim walking slow is silent and walking fast is loud. Snow, stone, grass, wood, they all sound the same to enemies when you walk on them. But in Thief 1 & 2 each surface type makes different sound levels at different movement speeds. So you can stand and run across grass and be pretty silent, but even crouch walking across metal is going to make a significant amount of noise. Emil Pagliarulo (lead designer on Fallout 3 & 4) actually worked on Thief 2.
Well, even Planescape: Torment made you fight people. The whole combat, diplomacy, stealth set up was a very intentional and important design goal for the original Fallout and it's a big reason as to why people love that game. Look at Fallout: Tactics if you want to see what Fallout would be if it was all combat. I do hope they stay true to that goal, only time will tell."You can avoid [killing] a lot," VP of development Todd Howard said in an interview with The Guardian. "I can't tell you that you can play the whole game without violence – that's not necessarily a goal of ours – but we want to support different play styles as much as we can."

Re: Fallout 4
If I recall correctly, the first two games lacked the visuals of stealth and just had Stealth mode on/off. I would like to see Stealth get overhauled as that is weak in Bethesda games. It would be great if Fallout 4 does have a hybrid of Dishonoured and Thief's gameplay mechanics(Bethesda published Dishonoured). But i can see the game being more focused on combat due to popularity of the mainstream appeal and they have focused on combat styles whilst stealth has been touched slightly.

Re: Fallout 4
Stealth in Fallout 1 & 2 was basically the same as in the Infinity Engine games, none of those Isometric games (or at least, none that I've played) had good stealth. Even Shadowrun: Hong Kong which came out recently had really bad stealth.
I love Dishonored, it's fantastic, but I don't think it's a good comparison. You're far more nimble in Dishonored and the powers The Outsider grants you play a big role. Even with just Blink and Agility, it massively impacts how you move through the environment and really it's a tonne of fun. But that nimbleness isn't what Fallout 3 or New Vegas are like in terms of movement, it's more like Thief where you aren't that nimble. And in Dishonored sound basically works the same as in Fallout 3 & New Vegas, slow quiet, fast loud. And shadows don't play a role at all, it's all line of sight. As I said, I love Dishonored, but I think Fallout is better off having stealth more like Thief than more like Dishonored.

Reminds me of sacred music - the kind played during church services, funerals, etc. Which fits well with the more personal, emotionally resonant tone FO4 aims to maintain.all_freed wrote:I think Inon zur is the best pianist I the world

After the new character system info, I'm happier than ever that Bethesda took over the franchise and continues to make it its own. Hybridization of mechanics with TES - perk/skill integration, level cap removal, "bashing" with a ranged weapon a la Skyrim. Some of the perks revealed struck me as transplants of TES magickal effects: Calm, Clairvoyance, etc. Magick without the magicka! I remember people snarking a few months ago about Rad Shouts...
On a related note, it's nice to see Charisma finally getting its due in the series. How cool would it be to use an advanced rank of Wasteland Whisperer to charm a Mirelurk Queen into helping you fight a Deathclaw?

Re: Fallout 4
Something related to resisting knockdown/knockback, like the Stonewall perk from previous games. Since most perks have multiple ranks, and each rank can have unique effects, I would expect S9 to have other defensive melee buffs rolled into it. I expect most of the offensive melee buffs to be bundled into S2. Unarmed stuff in S1.Argonanza wrote:Any guesses what Strenght perk 9 is?

Anybody understands what I2 does?
V.A.N.S
"Let Vault-Tec guide you! The path to your closest quest target is displayed in V.A.T.S."
If this is the replacement for Quest Markers it sucks hard, as you only can see the closest one, which implies you can't choose what you want to see and secondly you need to activate VATS which was till now a combat target mode. Why would I want to see a quest target location in VATS?

Since the first perk in the Intelligence column (not counting the initial "Intense Training" perk every stat has) has only one rank, it probably does nothing more than the similar Skyrim effect. Players who didn't find much use for the spell in Skyrim probably won't use it in FO4 either.

S10 looks like a running charge attack when you're wearing power armor. If that's the case, I hope somebody creates a mod that makes a loop of Move [&@%!] play when you're charging.

That's VANS. It's a perk that shows you a path to your next objective when you're in VATS. Sorry, no cars involved.

Re: Fallout 4
Guys, guess what Perk we get in the UK?
We get....
to drink...
Beer. Yep, they are doing Fallout Beer(i'm not kidding, that is the name) and for the grand price of £30 for a pack of 12. Would have thought that NUKA COLA would have been the drink to make instead of beer. https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?hl=en#hl ... llout+beer
Buy now and feel ashamed when you realised that you just spend most of the cost of the actual game on Beer.

Re: Fallout 4
not long now.
how long will you likely spend in the character creator on day one?
for skyrim I spent about six hours, and the results were worth it. i know from years of playing these things that if i'm not completely satisfied with the look of my character the urge to re-do it or create another will build and build until i can't resist.
but i guess there's a lot less to consider with fallout. all the same, i'm gonna say it'll be 2 to 3 hours before i'm ready to get exploring.

Re: Fallout 4
Zero hours and Zero minutes due to me being in the Mojave Wasteland. I will admit, a part of me is concerned Bethesda's story telling has declined and we will get a medicore story or worse, a repeat of Fallout 3's plot. I mean, Skyrim, i felt was weak. Fallout 4, it could be weaker then Skyrim. I also fear that the companions will just be like Skyrim and just lacking a full character. I mean, Skyrim did a good job for TES's first batch of companions but for a Fallout game, i pretty much expect them to look at New Vegas and improve on what Obsidian did.
I do expect backwards flying super mutants.

Not long. I lack both the skill and the inclination to experiment with making a good face, so either the default or one of the presets will have to do. Luckily a few of the presets scrolled through in the demo are decent.umber hulk wrote:how long will you likely spend in the character creator on day one?
Mass Effect 2 had the best appearance system for people bad at sliders: each combination of features had a corresponding alphanumeric code. Let someone else tinker with sliders for hours getting the perfect look, then just use their code!

Re: Fallout 4
I'm going mad, waiting for Fallout 4. I have my SPECIAL...more or less pre-planned. It might change a little--I've heard that MAYBE you can opt to raise a SPECIAL instead of taking a perk. Depending on how many times you can actually do that, or if there are any SPECIAL boosting perks as quest rewards, my present build might change.
Already know pretty much what I'm playing. Going to spend like up to a half hour, painstakingly creating my character. And unless the plot gives sufficient reason to move on rather than do -whatever- (and it probably should), I intend to spend the first few hours of my game...recreating Sanctuary Hills. My build is going to be Charisma-heavy, so if I am going to be homesteading, (and if it can be done with Codsworth) I will pretty much immediately get the Local Leader perk, and put Codsworth in charge of the Sanctuary Hills settlement.
@Kerr, you've probably learned this by now, but yeah, you can take the Lady Killer/Man Hunter perk, and you get to choose whether it's applied to men or women, regardless of gender. I find it a little odd that you couldn't apply it to both, but whatever. --Oh, and they did the smart thing, and every human(oid?) companion can be romanced regardless of gender. Hurray for that.
@TSD, it's a little hard for them -not- to retread some of Fallout 3's opening, given that you enter the wasteland from a vault, and have no idea of Boston's post-war culture. And having a few perfectly foreign things explained to us is better than our PC saying "oh yes, of course I am familiar with all of these groups", while the player has no idea who the hell the Commonwealth Minutemen are. Or trying to force in an explanation, despite the PC already knowing.
