Pronunciation of CHIM
I always thought that CHIM was pronounced as kime (like time with a k), but I've also heard it pronounced... Well, this is an obvious exaggeration, but: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lyKxKn_WsE Which is correct? Or perhaps this is a better example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUwltEBRrqs

Re: Pronunciation of CHIM
I always just pronounced the "CH" like the "Ch" in Chia Pet, and the rest so that it rhymes with "him". I don't know if that's right, it's just how I do it.

The wiki and various other sources say it is pronounced 'kim'.

You can hear me pronounce it that way a few dozen times in the early Selectives Lorecasts, which is just as valid as any other pronunciation you've heard, as the word CHIM is never spoken aloud in any official source yet.legoless wrote:I've never heard it pronounced 'kime'.

Re: Pronunciation of CHIM
So regardless of whether it is pronounced, like ch in chimney or ch in Bach, it is still pronounced with a short i rather a long i. For example, I've always pronounced Chimer as k-eye-mer.

Re: Pronunciation of CHIM
The mythological creature, 'chimera' is pronounced 'k-eye-meer-ah', therefore I say chimer 'k-eye-mer'. (So, same as you do, Midboss).

Re: Pronunciation of CHIM
I say Ch-eye-mer and CHIM-that-rhymes-with-chin personally.
"Elder Scroll of Chim", I thought? The Cyrodiil generals say it in ESO.Pilaf The Defiler wrote:You can hear me pronounce it that way a few dozen times in the early Selectives Lorecasts, which is just as valid as any other pronunciation you've heard, as the word CHIM is never spoken aloud in any official source yet.legoless wrote:I've never heard it pronounced 'kime'.

Re: Pronunciation of CHIM
I forgot about that. Ah, well. Transcription error, then. Same as the NPCs who call Reman "Ree Man" instead of the glorious Colovian "Rei-MONN".

Re: Pronunciation of CHIM
It's a secret syllable. Ambiguous pronunciation seems appropriate for it. MK's kim is the best way to go for now, though it would hardly be surprising to learn that the true pronunciation is different.
I've always said kime in my head. However, chime seems the most thematically harmonious, no pun intended. I'd posit that this is the correct, "secret" pronunciation.

Re: Pronunciation of CHIM
As for me, every time I've heard it pronounced in ESO it like "kime". Sadly I didn't get the chance to record the NPCs saying it, but I'm pretty sure it was "kime" as in "chimera" (/kɨˈmɪərə/ or /kaɪˈmɪərə/, says the Wikipedia, so Chim should be /kɨm/ or /kaɪm/, leaving the apostrophe out because it has only one syllable).legoless wrote:I've never heard it pronounced 'kime'.
Correct me if you must, I'm not a native English speaker.

Re: Pronunciation of CHIM
Depends on how you want to pronounce an English "ch" sound, there are loads of ways to do that because of the way English works having taken various sounds from other languages as time has passed - to illustrate this, just consider that you guys have used words from Nahuatl, 12th century English/French from Latin, German and Greek origins to guide your pronunciations here.
