Skyrim is a intricate game of insane complexity, there's much potential but it seems to creators leave much of that in the hands of the users. Whats everyone's favorite role playing enhancing mods. And I restrict this inquery to some a mod that lets you blow a kick-a$$ horn, but also cool item packages, world improments, whatever you got.
I'm always worried about mods with triggers, shotty programing (buggy), or save game bloat causing mods. So if they are known to do that, you might want to say. However, I suppose if they did that they wouldn't be on ur favs list. I'm knew to modding so I'm crazy worried about screwing up my game and character. Also try to let me know if its a bad idea to add them to an existing saved game/character. Thanks again, I hope I don't ask too many questions - I just don't personally know anyone that plays this game.

Immersive Armors & Immersive Weapons: great for spicing up the game, and the former has a configuration menu* where you can enable or disable the crafting or distribution of any added armor set.
Frostfall: great balance between survival mechanics and gameplay convenience.*
Thieves Guild Requirements, The Choice Is Yours, & Timing Is Everything: All from the same author, these make various quest triggers more reasonable, and give you more control* over some of them.
Dovahkiin Relaxes Too: idling animations for your character.*
Guard Dialogue Overhaul: Guards will respect you more for things you've done in the respective hold.
Character Creation Overhaul: basically allows you to make your character's skillset better defined from the start.
Alternate Start - Live Another Life: self-explanatory.
*For the Mod Configuration Menu (MCM) system, you'll need SkyUI (great mod in its own right). But if you prefer the vanilla UI, use SkyUI-Away.

frostfall (and wet and cold and the ash one)
Live another life (be wary of one of the options if you turn on frost fall.. it's death for non-nords)
the immersive weapons and armor and any other mod that adds items to npc's. I love these particularly due to how it spices up random mobs' appearances. Like seeing bandits with bearskin cloaks/backpacks or the many hoods. Toss in cloaks of skyrim as well
Immersive patrols. One thing I didn't particularly like after awhile was how few people I'd run into on the roads. The occasional random event (dueling wizards, fugitive, dragon/vamp/WW/dawnguard, ETC).
Immersive creatures, different stuff to kill. Changed some spawns and made for some very odd play sessions before I realized what was happening. Note some creatures are pushing the fabric of the elder scrolls by existing. Great for more draugr, skeletons, giants, and critters. But some stuff like a 'hybrid' werewolf+vampire (looks awesome) is a bit much.
After those, I start looking at overhauls like Requiem and Whatever T3nd0s has done.

Re: Roleplaying enhancing moda
Just keep in mind that all of the above mentioned mods are pretty script-heavy, and, since they overhaul so much of the game, can cause frame rate drops and/or crashing.
As for what's good, that's hard to say because what one person likes, you may not like. Take Frostfall, for instance. Many people like this mod but I got annoyed with always having to stop what I was doing to build a fire and crawl into a tent. And if you're up near Dawnstar and have to do a little swimming? Forget it. You'll freeze to death. So some people find that Frostfall adds challenge to the game, while others (like me) found it just adds extra frustration.
Immersive Weapons and Armor are both good mods...if you like the looks of the armors and weapons. I don't, so I don't use that mod. But the mod is trustworthy.
I like Skyrim Immersive Creatures. The creatures are cool -- though not necessarily immersive -- and makes the battles challenging and fun. My opinion only.
Just make sure you save your game before adding any kind of major overhaul type of mod since you really don't know if you like something until you try it. And try to stay away from mods that were made before March 2013 and haven't been updated since then. March 2013 was the last update for Skyrim.
Haven't said all that, if you Google, "Best Skyrim mods," or something like that, you'll find a lot of great mods listed.

I recently came across and I'm now using Camping Lite. It's a simple mod that allows you to set camp and build a campfire outside. I use it mainly for immersion - make camp in the evening and moving on the next morning.

Re: Roleplaying enhancing moda
I'm fond of combining Interesting NPCs with Inconsequential NPCs. Some of the Interesting NPCs are...very chatty, which might turns some folks off, but they certainly are interesting. Meanwhile Inconsequential NPCs adds more people milling around doing normal people things so the world feels more alive.
Definitely agree with Frostfall. I also use Total Realism: Basic Needs. Lightweight eating/drinking/sleeping mod, though I notice it missed tagging some food items as food. Turn off fast travel and it feels like a whole new game just moving from town to town without killing yourself.
Finally, add your favorite followers mod. Inigo is a lot of fun. Atvir Dres is fully functional and snarky as hell, but as far as I know never got finished to the point of having his own quest line.
All of them you can install to existing save games--or at least, I didn't break anything by doing so.

Re: Roleplaying enhancing moda
An absolute must IMO, for any type of magic user roleplay:
Forgotten Magic Redone
Doesn't add too many spells (40-50 I think), which are divided between several magic types. These spells gain exp and eventually levels and then you choose perks/bonuses for each spell. It does require SkyUI from what I remember, as everything is done in its menu.
It's one of my favorite mods and I've used it for all my characters; be it paladin, illusionist, ice, fire, storm mage, dark mage, necromancer, nature mage, any type of spellsword or witchunter etc..
It doesn't make the character OP, but it does preserve viability of destruction magic even on very high levels - even vanilla destruction spells.
Of course, the mod can be customized to make your char super OP if that's what you wish!
Yes I'm a bit late with this

Skyrim
intricate game
Now, that old post got me wondering: where is the facepalm smile on this forum?insane complexity
I'm the feared Marisa Kirisame, known as Marisa Kurwa, bane of the hldm .cz, where my mere name is a curse, user of the exploits and a stalking crossbowwoman, hidden in the shadows, striking from the back.

On topic though, I always wanted to try a Frostfall run but forced survival is a bit too intense. There's probably a Frostfall Lite option in the config or something but I've never looked into it.
