Im needing to create some some calm spells for my character who is currently level 7, the trouble is, I can find any information about what level creatures and most humans and etc are.
I know Guards are your level +10
And this page gives the level creatures are encountered at, but not their level http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Land_Dreugh#Imps
I thought I maybe could assume that the level creatures are first encountered at will also be their own level, but I tried calming an imp (listed as lvl1) with soothing touch (calm up to lvl 2) and it did not work.
Also on the subject of spell creating, Frenzy only works on humans (/Argonians/kagit..) right?

Re: What level are things?
I find calming spells to be utterly worthless due to the level restrictions. Stealth is the better option.

I know, but im not planning on becoming too high a level with this character, and i want to avoid using paralyza because i find it op and no fun, and so I need some kind of crowd control (I dont like stealth sometimes).
So its between this, command, and demoralize. Demoralize might actually be the best option because of its wider range of applications. You can demoralize a wolf cant you?

Were you wearing armour when you casted soothing touch? The spell effectiveness might have dropped below applicable levels.maxitwist wrote:I thought I maybe could assume that the level creatures are first encountered at will also be their own level, but I tried calming an imp (listed as lvl1) with soothing touch (calm up to lvl 2) and it did not work.

Aren't calm spells only level restricted if you wear armour?AKB wrote:I find calming spells to be utterly worthless due to the level restrictions. Stealth is the better option.
Command Creature affects creatures and undead, Demoralize (It's been awhile since I've played so I'm just guessing) affects NPC's and creatures(?) and Calm works on creatures, humanoids, daedra, dremora, and undead.maxitwist wrote:So it's between [calm], command, and demoralize. Well i also trieed command up to lvl3 and that also didnt work, though a custom calm lvl 5 did. So i assume they must be lvl 4 or 5. (imps) But thatts not listed on the wiki.

A Level 25 Calm spell will work on targets of any level, even those above Level 25.
"Level 25" is essentially in-game code for "unlimited". The problem is if your character is wearing any kind of armor, because even the smallest drop in spell effectiveness that occurs when you cast magic with armor on will automatically drop your Level 25 spell to Level 23.

Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.
