I don't know if this is due to a glitch, or if I'm doing something wrong. I recently went out looking for more glowing mushrooms to make Fortify Destruction potions. According to the wiki, Tolvald's Cave has the highest number of samples, so I went there. The glowing mushrooms were easy enough to spot, but there was a problem. The cursor detection window seems to be very touchy, as I can be aiming the crosshair right at a mushroom and still be unable to harvest it. I can only pick it when I either aim very carefully at the mushroom's whiskers, or wave the crosshair around at random while hitting the "use" key until something happens. By contrast, all types of mushrooms that grow on the floor, like bleeding crown, are very easy to harvest, as I can aim anywhere near the cluster.
Another ingredient that gives me trouble, though not the fault of the game's, is salmon roe. I know they're harvested from jumping salmon in the rapids, but I can't manage to get close enough. The current sweeps me out of position too quickly to target the jumping salmon and activate them. Would casting an explosive spell or using a shout help move them within reach?
Butterfly wings have their own problems. I can usually catch a few butterflies at a time, but I read on the wiki that area-effect spells can help stun groups of them for easy collection. Well, I tried this, and the butterflies fell out of the air as expected. However, they also seemed to have clipped through the ground, because I couldn't find them afterwards.
Finally, I can't seem to find any river betty. I searched several fish spawning locations, using the dragonflies to help locate them, but this particular type of fish never seems to appear. I've caught plenty of other types of fish, including a lot of salmon, but after dozens of fishing expeditions, I've only managed to find a single river betty. The only place I've been able to acquire them is from fish barrels, like the kind located at Riften's docks, or under the stairs at Arcadia's Cauldron.

Re: Difficulty Harvesting Certain Ingredients
Killing dragonflies with Ice Storm or such only causes them to fall to the bottom of the stream, so I dropped that notion quick. It gets the fishies to float off dead, though.
Glowing mushrooms are indeed finicky to harvest, I'll vouch for that.

Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

1. Yea that is normal i think. I'm on ps3 and it happend every 7th-10th shroom. But if it not letting you pick up most of them then idk.
2. Mayb slow time shout will help. I never tried that though
4. Theyre supposed o be rare aslong as you don go out of your way to collect hem. Cross a single playthru i usually only collect 20-30 at most wen i'm finished with the entire game. By hen that is about 300-500 hrs.

Re: Difficulty Harvesting Certain Ingredients
I did find a reliable source of river betty. As I mentioned above, the fish barrels at the Riften Docks tend to have a good chance of giving you each type of fish. If you raise the disposition of Wujeeta by giving her a healing potion, all the fish inside the fishery and all the barrels outside and on the boat are free for the taking. Also, I ended up purchasing Windstad Manor and adding the fishery, which I'm trying to use to get some river betty.

Re: Difficulty Harvesting Certain Ingredients
Harvesting salmon roe, I usually do this:
find rock next to or in Fall (the kind that sticks out of water), hop on it. Watch how the fish jump, they tend to follow same few routes. Aim cursor where the fishes jump and click furiously, hoping that one the clicks is in right time. It takes lot of patience and I usually give up after first sample. Good spot is those two bridges near Honeymead Brewery.

I can vouch for the glowing mushroom harvesting - it is a bit finicky.
