Neloth glitch

I have just finished a quest to fetch a staff for Neloth. I had saved the game after selling him some items but before mentioning the quest. When I reload that save he attacks me. I have no bounty anywhere. I even used the console command to clear it just in case. I have loaded the autosave from when I entered the building and he is still hostile.

Have you tried leaving, waiting 24 hours, then going back?
