Re: Future RP Ideas
I'll just need to have my character (I currently want to be the 2nd or 3rd Rosemont son) marry Brandon Wendbridge's sister, secure our alliance. No stabbing us in the back then. Unless you're really scummy.
All joking aside (or am I joking?) it'll be interesting to see if any character does get married over the course of the RP in order to secure an alliance.

So we have come to solve every squabble in the village personally?

Re: Future RP Ideas
I'm thinking of nabbing the role of a third-born son. I'm thinking of making him the opposite of Dorian from TA2: kind and meek, but somewhat slow.EpicAbrad wrote:Roles to claim for this will likely cap at 1 lord, 1 lady, 3 sons, 3 daughters, 2 uncles, 1 aunt, 2 cousins, 1 Maester, 1 master-at-arms, 1 smith, 1 master of horse, 2 household guards, and 2 sworn swords (knights). Obviously I do not expect 20 players but those are the limits in case more than one person wants the same role.
If some roles remain unclaimed, I think it would be a good idea to fill them in with NPCs. So if no one chooses to RP as a cousin or daughter, they'd still be a presence and contribute to making the Rosemonts seem like an actual family.
I would advise drafting up character sheets for Lord and Lady Rosemont. Like you could describe their personalities, whether they follow the Old Gods or the Seven, and their appearances. Most houses tend to have some physical trait associated with them (The Tullys have auburn hair and blue eyes, the Umbers are huge, etc), and you wouldn't want the Rosemont children to look drastically different from their parents and each other.

Re: Future RP Ideas
That's a tricky one. I'll be in some weird place (last I heard it used to be called New Amsterdam or something) from tomorrow until Friday, but I don't know what my level of free time and Internet access will look like so I may be able to make either a good deal of progress or none at all. When I get back I will have plenty more free time than I've had recently, so I would tentatively say expect to see an OP this time next week. Keep in mind that it could be much earlier, or much later. I'll try for much earlier. All hail! wrote:Any ETA on the ASOIAF RP?

L5R RPG: Does the character creation seem too intimidating? XD it really isn't as bad as it looks. It's actually more straightforward than D&D character creation is. If people want to cut out counting their Insight, I can do it for them. I would have recounted it anyway, make sure it's correct.

Re: Future RP Ideas
Can we reserve a spot in the house for our character? Because I'd like to be the second oldest Rosemont son. I know Rook commented on wanting to be the 3rd.
Not as bad as D&D? Like that's hard. I haven't played it Tabletop but from what I've read of D&D and have experienced in Video Games it has a lot of what I dislike in RPG systems. Forced randomization as part of character creation (health & attributes,) class based, almost entirely combat focused, stupid class restrictions based on race, stupid weapon restrictions based on class, stupid class restrictions based on alignment. I think I just hate D&D, from a systems/rules perspective anyway. I like a lot of the settings and games I've played that use it are often great. Although much of that experience is from AD&D and I want to say 3/3.5, maybe it gets less [&@%!] in later editions.

Sorry for that rant. Anyway, first I should admit I've only skimmed L5R OP because I'm not interested in joining but in general I'd advise anyone to not make the systems more complicated than they need to be. I simplified the hell out of Vampire: The Requiem for character creation for the RP based on it I made instead of using White Wolf's rules. I completely changed skills, attributes, and how combat, health and damage works because it would just make things more complicated than it needs to be for the sake of the RP. I could have used the original rules but I doubt the RP would be any better for it, it might even have been worse for me and the players. That doesn't mean I ignored the rules though, I copied over a quite a bit (Disciplines, Blood, Frenzy, Strength and Weaknesses of Different Clans, Torpor & Final Death, etc) of it albeit simplified. And Storyteller is one of the easier RPG systems to use I've come across. Roll the amount of D10s (it's all D10) and if you have an 8 or higher it's a success. Roll 10s again. If you are competing whoever has more successes wins. Modifiers like skills, attributes, etc determine how many D10s you roll. I basically copied it for S&S because it is just that simple.
A better example is how I removed Luck from SPECIAL. Luck in Fallout mainly impacts critical hits. Critical Hits is a really complicated formula that isn't really worth getting into if you don't have a computer doing it. So I just removed Luck, I think it was the right decision.
I'm not saying using it is bad, like I said I didn't read it in enough depth, but just ask yourself "What here do I need and what would be better for this RP if I just removed/simplified it?" Maybe you come away thinking you should leave it as is. Maybe not.

Re: Future RP Ideas
L5R stands for Legend of the Five Rings. The five rings are the base attributes/traits. I can't cut those out. Skills? There are as many as there need to be for weapons, because they work differently. The way you swing and generally use a katana is not the way you use a kusarigama. Not even close. Lore skills, artisan skills, craft skills could be pared down, but with the simplification, you lose potential to differentiate between characters. This one plays shamisen, this one plays biwa, this one plays flute. Together, they form the ultimate musical group.
You know, one thing I could cut out is insight and insight rank. Everyone could just rank up simultaneously, at set points. Looks far less natural, but it's less crap to worry about.
The travel pack, ehhhhh. Yeah. [&@%!] it, I'll give you all the same basic supplies. Unless someone wants something specific, like a pet and/or a musical instrument or such. Okay, you can choose a random assortment of basic supplies. Use your imagination. But don't be ludicrous. You're not carrying an entire storeroom with you.
You know what, I'll cut out all the minor clans. Sod that. Less choices for everyone, hooray.
Combat maneuvers, sod those. I'll just say that you can target whatever limb/whatever, but it will just be harder, especially if you have a low void. --L5R RPG has you pick combat stances, but I wasn't even going to include those. Based on how you say you are attacking, I will add penalties/bonuses as befits that. If you're going full bore, a bonus to attack but a penalty to armor. If you're being defensive, well, you're being defensive. Etc.

Re: Future RP Ideas
Actually talking about the minor clans, Vampire: The Requiem has dozens of bloodlines, sub groups of the 5 different clans, lots of which are really interesting (some of which were clans in Masquerade like Toreador and Malkavian) which I didn't include in character creation because I thought it would make character creation too complicated and I only own the core books anyway. That doesn't mean these bloodlines don't exist in the world though. I don't think players missed out too much by not having them.
Having penalties for targeting body parts is a good idea. Otherwise it'll just be every round of combat "I target the head" because why not do that?

Re: Future RP Ideas
If you do another vamp RP in the future, pls include Tremere. Hahah. I'm having a ball, stunlocking bosses with Blood Purge. They come at me. Right click, and they double over. I slash them repeatedly. They recover. RIGHT CLICK. They double over. Hahahah. Or just, you know, Suicide. Gimble? I made him strangle himself to death.
Right whenever the first skirmish pops up, I will remind people that targeting limbs and whatnot will be more difficult. While I won't have the maneuver system for that, it will be harder to hit limbs and such, especially with a low Void. (As with the system, your raises to use maneuvers is limited to your total void. Which I suppose represents how you are able to focus, read the battle, center yourself and accurately strike at said target.)

I would support anyone doing a Geist:The Sin-Eater roleplay. They are my kinda thing~ Especially since I based the SoulStitched off them, if you want the books Kerr I can send you 'em over skype or something like that.
There's also a really good website with all the clans(bloodlines as well) on 'em too.

Re: Future RP Ideas
Quick question: would anyone be interested in an RP set in the world of Alagaesia(Eragon)? Or Percy Jackson and the Olympians, maybe? I have ideas for both, but I can only really work on one at a time.

You know, I once (briefly) RP'd in a crossover between Percy Jackson and Pokemon. It was like, every Olympian had a pokemon as their sort of...familiar. And guardian. I was playing a tough guy with a Golurk. Would have been great to get the chance to fly around on it, but, that forum sucked.
A Percy Jackson RP sounds interesting, if it's done right. Heh.

Re: Future RP Ideas
Percy Jackson and Alagaesia both sound cool (although I finished the Inheritance Cycle something like three years ago so I'd have to brush up!), but I'm not sure if it would be a good idea for me to join considering that I actually want to get stuff done this summer and being in 3 RPs would be quite counterproductive to that.
If it looks good enough, though, then I might just cave and join anyway!
So anyway, for the ASOIAF RP: Here's my go at the Rosemont family history. Let me know if you all approve! (Also maybe hit me with your suggestions for the first names of the current lord and lady!)
"House Rosemont's exact origins are unknown. The first known member of the line found in historical documentation was one Ser Randyll of the Rosegrass, who fought during the Young Dragon's conquest of Dorne. His family's home was one Rosegrass Keep, located at the top of a hill just outside of the Kingswood, in the Stormlands. His house made the jump from knights to minor lords after Ser Arthur Rosemont saved the life of Crown Prince Baelor "Breakspear" Targaryen during the Battle of the Redgrass Field, being granted some more land to hold. The Rosemonts renamed their fort from Rosegrass to Redgrass Keep, and over time it has itself been upgraded into a small but respectable motte-and-bailey castle. The Rosemonts' holdings include a village of population about 100, as well as a total of seven local farms." Note: In this case they'd be sworn to House Baratheon, but with large allegiance ties to the Targaryens.

Re: Future RP Ideas
Sounds good. How about Lord Richard Rosemont and Lady Margaret Rosemont?
Also I like the idea of a trait which is common enough among the Rosemonts like green eyes or red hair.
