Wow, those graphics are excellent.
If we were still in 2011.
I know these games never really push the envelope when it comes to graphics, but yikes. Do we know the engine it's running on yet?

Re: Fallout 4
Why should we give a [&@%!] about the graphics? there's plenty of other stuff to get negative about, so the graphics would be the last of my problems.
Graphics seem fine to me, anyways, I've never been one to fuss over them and I'm still perfectly happy with what I've seen. Not mind blowing, but not really terrible either. The general tone is more important than the quality, in my eyes, so that's what I'm all miffed about.

Looks like Skyrim engine, to me. Which is par for the course, really. TES games get the new engine, and Fallout uses that version.Linkuya wrote:Wow, those graphics are excellent.

Sounds about right, I think it's been mentioned now that it is indeed a touched up Creation engine.Musicman247 wrote:Looks like Skyrim engine, to me. Which is par for the course, really. TES games get the new engine, and Fallout uses that version.Linkuya wrote:Wow, those graphics are excellent.

Re: Fallout 4
The game is visually pleasing to my eyes, therefore, to me, it has good graphics. Pushing the bar is a pointless financial expense when most people ultimately don't care about the latest and greatest graphics. The fact is, it looks as good as it needs to look.
I am intrigued if the protagonist is voiced or not, if that was the protagonist. If that was, then I highly improve of this change, hopefully we get a few different choices for the voice though.
It seems to me, from that trailer, the start of the game may do the Van Buren thing (I do remember reading Van Buren planned to do that, at least), where you play through The Great War as one of your ancestors, before starting the game at the current date.

Re: Fallout 4
Some people have suggested that you're going to play as someone from wartime, then be put in cryo-stasis in a vault, and then released. If that is the case, I'd be quite happy with that, as there's practically endless backstory potential for you to fill in as you please.AKB wrote:It seems to me, from that trailer, the start of the game may do the Van Buren thing (I do remember reading Van Buren planned to do that, at least), where you play through The Great War as one of your ancestors, before starting the game at the current date.

Re: Fallout 4
Just watched the trailer and Fallout 4 is already better then Fallout 3 or rather, that's my first impression. It seems that Bethesda is going for a more cinematic narrative and are going to aim to deliever a very interesting plot.
I do feel that they are using Van Buren's War time thing and it will be very interesting to see how they do it. It would be nice if they use cryo-statis as phil said but i think they may be using the Great War as a giant tutorial. I liked the nod to the Vault Dweller near the end but not fond of the idea of a voice protagnist. However, Bethesda could surprise us and Troy baker is not our character but just a important NPC.
As for the graphics, it's an open world RPG that could be Bethesda's biggest game to date. They're not "Oh my god, is that even possible!?" but they are showing what the current Gen standard should be. Yes, it's Creation but hopefully, Creation's bugs are to do with RAM limitations. I do hope they do not health regeneration as the standard and i am hoping that they are keeping to the East Coast whilst using Obsidian due to Obsidian having developers that were part of the original fallouts, work on the West coast spin offs or interquels.

Re: Fallout 4
As long as we get a decent selection of voices, I don't mind having a voiced protagonist (''Suave'' voice, here I come!)
Though, that would mean having limited use for it, as they can't voice the whole game 12 times and keep up any semblance of quality (yeah yeah, Bethesda and voice acting), so maybe not.

Re: Fallout 4
Regenerating health would [&@%!] me off. I still hate Skyrim for its regenerating health. I don't mind magicka regenerating, and fatigue regenerating makes sense, but health regenerating killed it for me.Thelastdovah wrote:I do hope they do not health regeneration as the standard and i am hoping that they are keeping to the East Coast whilst using Obsidian due to Obsidian having developers that were part of the original fallouts, work on the West coast spin offs or interquels.
The only thing that better be regenerating are Action Points for VATS, and Stamina if they add Stamina and sprinting and/or physically intensive tasks.
I don't want another generic hack-and-slash game, which is all Skyrim felt like to me. Granted, it was a good hack-and-slash -- although that may be my BethSoft fanboy-ism -- but ultimately it was still a glorified hack-and-slash compared to older titles in the series.

Re: Fallout 4
If they add a stamina bar, they should merge it with ATP. It'd be good to have a trade-off, or for those of us who prefer not to use VATS, a use for ATP points.Damon wrote:The only thing that better be regenerating are Action Points for VATS, and Stamina if they add Stamina and sprinting and/or physically intensive tasks.
I don't mind semi regenerating health (like in Far Cry 3, as an example), where if you take damage past a certain threshold, you can't regenerate past that (except it would be implemented with more than one threshold), AND regeneration is very slow so you can't rely on it in the heat of battle. Instead it'd be more of a cheaper way to recover normally while on the move, without needing to resort to the ''wait'' function.

To be fair, they do have plenty of voices for Fallout 4.
All of them will be provided by Troy Baker and Nolan North.
I am hoping that VATs is revamped into a useful, less immersion breaking tool or is replaced with a new feature.

Re: Fallout 4
Eh, the whole voice-acting wouldn't be a deal-breaker either way. I never even pay attention to the fact that the lines are done in silence; You just fill it in in your head, so I don't think voice acted PCs should be a big deal to people, eventually it all fades into the back-ground (unless it's terrible, then it's that little nagging in your ear that drives you insane).

Re: Fallout 4
You forgot Laura Bailey. She actually voiced the grunts and groans the female Courier makes. Hopefully they improve every aspect of gameplay, make some significant improvements to combat and stealth. I'd be disappointed (but not surprised) if it was just the same as 3 and New Vegas.
Similar to Van Buren but only to an extent, the Van Buren tutorial was a VR simultion of people going to the Vault. Those people in Van Buren weren't actually from a Vault they were wastelanders put in a prison. And you could be a human, ghoul or Super Mutant. That New Plague thing I mentioned was in Van Buren, all the prisoners were Typhoid Marys so when they escaped they inadvertently started to spread it.
Imagine if at E3 they release gameplay footage and it turns out it plays like Shadowrun: Returns. It would be like Fallout 1 & 2 fans complaining about the gameplay changes but in reverse.

Re: Fallout 4
BOMB DIG! I'm ready for a new Fallout game whoohoo!!
Edit: I watched the trailer and it looks fantastic! I can't wait to play this game. The graphics are smooth, sharp, and I got all excited about a German Shepherd friend (maybe?). Either way, I'm ready to enter this game with an open mind and heart. I've enjoyed New Vegas immensely so this hopefully will be just as awesome.

I'm very excited for the next Fallout game! Hopefully we at E3 Bethesda will show us the amount of gameplay that they did for Skyrim. As for the graphics.... honestly they look fine by me. Sure it's not Crysis level, but I wasn't expecting it to be.

Well, New Vegas already proved that you don't need to lose all colour in the post apocalypse scenario, so I don't really see why everybody's so surprised about this game being colourful (not that I don't like it, that was something sorely lacking from Skyrim and Fallout 3)
In NV we already had a fairly diverse palette, even the deserts had brightly coloured cactus flowers growing, but for the best examples look at NV itself, Jacobstown (and surroundings), or Zion Canyon. All of those are quite colourful.
