I got my hands on the second disk of the GotY edition. Installed all the DLC but when I start the game none of the DLC's are found. I spammed the wait command, over and over, for an entire week in-game time to see if I'd get the message about the "Strange Door at Niben Bay" but nothing.
It's interesting to note that the game acknowledges that there is downloadable content installed. Because it opens a window with "Checking for..." or whatever but then, two seconds later, the window closes. What gives? I assume the DLC's installed from the GotY edition doesn't work with the regular, Oblivion, disk. Am I right? My best bet is to either get the first disk of the GotY edition or download all the add-ons directly from Xbox LIVE, then? This sucks!

Sounds like you have it right. I know that when mine loads up the DLC, it's at least a few bars of the opening score.

Re: GotY and regular edition - problem (X360)
I bought the GotY Edition of Oblivion, installed the DLC, then tried to play the game with my original Collector's Edition disc in the drive to save any wear and tear on the GotY Disc 1.
The vanilla game would load, but the Shivering Isles/Knights of the Nine features did not. They only appeared after I began using Disc 1 of the GotY.

Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Re: GotY and regular edition - problem (X360)
So if I use the GotY disc 1 once, then ditch it and use my Platinum Hits (Regular Edition) everything should work? Interesting. Or perhaps it's better to ditch my regular copy and stick with the GotY disc 1... Hmm...
With Skyrim is the same crap. DLC from the second disc doesn't work with the regular edition. It "installs" the new achievements, along with all the contents, but refuse to load said new content.
With Fallout 3 and New Vegas you can use the GotY disc 2 with the regular edition just fine. Don't know why Bethesda bothered to change it for the Elder Scrolls.
