Barbas is nowhere to be found

I'm having trouble with "A deadra's best friend" quest. I talked to Lod and got to the part where I need to find the dog on the road. The problem is that he never appears. I tried to use Barbas's refid to teleport him to me but the console tells me it's an invalid refid. I tried advancing the quest stage for da03start but I can't get it to start the main quest da03.

Any idea of what I should do to unstuck this quest?
(Don't tell me to reload my save, I started that quest at least 10 hours ago)

Did you try going to Haemar's Shame?

Yeah, I cleared the whole dungeon and never saw a trace of him. The weird thing is that around the exit of the cave, the game will let me select barbas's refid but teleporting to it will only get me to an empty space a few meters away.

EDIT: I just noticed that Barbas is already part of clavicus vile's statue even though I never did his quest...

After some more fiddling, I discovered that the problem came from the unofficial skyrim patch.

So if it happens to you: deactivate all unoffical skyrim patches, reset the quest with

resetquest da03start

, redo the beginning of the quest until you finally meet Barbas, save and quit, reactivate the patches.
