Basket which is a Container (Glarthir's House, Bruma Castle)

Post by Helvetian »

Ok, so... I've been playing Oblivion a lot, lately, and decided to tweak some things to make things more organized.

I thought having another container in my Imperial City shack would do wonders. Now, the best option for that, I thought, would be the wastebasket/container which is in Glarthir's house, or in the Bruma Castle Service Hall - mentioned at the bottom of the http://uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Containers page. Since it's moveable with 'grab', it'd be easier than getting the CS and trying to place a cabinet, or something.

I opened the console, clicked on it, and got an ID, then figured I'd go to my house and use the "placeatme" command to make a new one. Just doesn't work. Did I only get the RefID and I should have used the BaseID? If so, how do I find it, as the UESP wiki doesn't have any IDs listed for this particular item. :/

Right now, my Ethernet card is bad, so I can't download anything new, like the CS, so if that's the only way, guess I'm out of luck. Unless anyone has a suggestion for something else. I suppose I could lure someone/thing into the house and kill them, to use the body, but I think only certain things won't just disappear if I'm gone for a couple days, right...? Besides, having a rotting corpse in the room wouldn't really seem right for the character... :P

It might be possible to steal the basket in Glarthir's House.

Get the RefID for it
Return to your shack
stand where you want it
use the command <RefID> moveto.player
The basket should appear where you are standing

Then you can use the console to setownership and claim the basket for yourself.

If the basket doesn't immediately appear, try leaving the shack for awhile and come back later.

I know I've used the RefID moveto.player command to move the display cases in Rosethorn Hall before. The display cases did not immediately change locations. It wasn't until I had left and came back that they had moved to where I wanted them.

Good idea, thanks!

Hadn't considered that option. I'll give it a try when I get home.

Oof... Just realized, if that works, I could just use that to fill it with stuff while in a cave, then come back to town and do it again when I'm in a shop, take it all out and sell it... Or, put extra gear in it and call it to me whenever I need stuff I don't want to carry... A summonable portable hole to store stuff... The game-breaking possibilities... :P

Seriously though -- I just want another container for the house. Was hoping to make extras, though - one for each container-weak house, maybe. Then again, there's another one in Bruma, so maybe I can get by with 2 of 'em. Thx again!

Well it should work. As I said I've used the command to move the display cases in Rosethorn Hall somewhere out of sight (simply disabling them doesn't seem to work). I hate display cases.

Never used it to steal a container from another house though.

I've not had a chance to try it, yet... had to come in to work early, today.

When I had trouble with the placeatme command to create a new one, I think part of the problem was that the RefID it gave started with "ff". I tried creating the item with the ff, and without, but neither worked. Now, I read the uesp wiki for RefIDs, but I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong, or if that kind of item just can't be duplicated. It seems like it should be, since FF coded items are made by the game engine (when buying a new item, or getting something generated in a chest). Yet, it said it was an invalid RefID.

Guess I'm just trying to understand my problem, there. I will be trying your moveto.player suggestion, tomorrow.

If you have SI, you can do the above rather simple quest and receive a Skinned Hound that will be your companion. It's not of much use, but you can have it follow you to your house and then slay it. It's body is a permanent corpse for infinite storage.
