Merchants

Post by wyldefx »

I recently tried to make a mod for Morrowind. In it is a house where a merchant lives. I have done everything I could do to set him up correctly, but he does not offer to sell anything. I cannot think of anything I might have missed. What I want to know here is, are there any tutorials online that show step by step how to make a Morrowind merchant? I have seen lists of such mods, but the vast majority of them either are not still there, or they link to Oblivion merchant creation.

Thanks

When you make your merchant, he needs a class related to being a merchant for services you want to be enabled. For instance, an acrobat wouldn't make a weaponsmith.

So, you can be a general "Merchant", an "Enchanting Service", "Smith", and so on.

Pull up the NPC's page in the Construction Set, click the "AI" button at the bottom underneath the stats, then click "Services", and you can start picking and choosing which services to provide. What services are selectable or greyed-out depend on the class chosen. The NPC will sell wares that they own that fit the criteria for sales.

For instance, if I made a Nord weaponsmith, who we'll call Eric Snowmane, he will have the smithing-related items for sale and offer repair services. His sales inventory will be what he owns. So, if I threw some swords, shields, armours, and repair hammers in his room around the place, and I set his ownership flag to be on those items (pull up that copy of the item in the window that shows the items placed in a cell, double-click it, go to "Ownership", and set the owner as that NPC you want to sell the item), he'd offer the items for sale. The same applies to items just on his person. If you threw a few swords in the guy's personal inventory, he'd sell them as well. He will not, however, sell a pot that was placed in his inventory or in his room, as he's not a general merchant.

Then, once he has wares, give him some money in the AI window so that he can buy your items if you wanted, and he'd hopefully be good to go.

It's always been a long-term low-priority desire to make a detailed guide related to everything related to Morrowind modding, but designed for the beginning user, so if that doesn't work out, given a few days or so to work, I'd be happy to write it up in detail, describe it ad nauseam, and throw in a handful of descriptive screenshots or something.
Oh my love, Anastasia, this may be our last goodbye.
