The massacres mentioned in Season Unending are referring to the battles undertaken during the civil war story, so far as I'm aware. I'd ignore them as they don't take place unless the dragon born intervenes.

Alvor also say that jarls challenging and killing each other would be going back to the bad old days. So apparently challenging jarls was a way of the warrior class or who never to remove a jarl and take there place through combat. This is similar to things done in human past challenge for leadership.

Ulfric did what he did so the empire and jarls would be forced to do something in this he gained allies and enemies

Also since ulfric recognizes racism and hated in his own city he bans argonians from entering to protect them possible yes the next jarls states the same thing. Bethesda leaves lots of holes for us players to fill so we can make the game our own. I myself wished they would fill some holes to make the story more complete so my character can find more depth and then chose what he wants.

A story doesn't need to tell you "X is the reason why this character did this". If they explained every little detail of the universe, it would be a much less interesting story. Ulfric would go from being a very discussable character to either "Ulfric the Racist" or "Ulfric the Well Meaning Hero", or "Ulfric the Power Mad Murderer" or "Ulfric the Savior of Skyrim". We wouldn't have anything to discuss if there wasn't room for ambiguity, and it would make the story much less interesting and realistic, since most real stories don't have a clear cut hero.

Ulfric may see the others as a security threat, or as refugees unlikely to benefit anyone and who should be on their way to someplace else rather than here.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

As for filling holes I'm referring to historical facts not so much about Ulfric. I would like to find out more about the old laws; the war with the elves and so forth.

I found very little relating to the old laws, but I did find several items involving The Great War and Ulfric.
For those interested, I have included a number of links below.

Yes. The the plotline with Ulfric and Torygg presents us with an ethically grey situation (or at least, a situation where both sides can argue until a large dragon comes back and eats the world) - a situation where we have to make a decision.

It is very difficult to play Skyrim "on the fence" which I think is one of the problems i personally had with the game

When you look at the various factions and conflicts in the game, no side is perfect. In a way the moral complexity of Morrowind is there but you are pushed into taking sides in a way you weren't in Mw

Given the true intention of the Thalmor to unmake the mortal world, the heroism of either side against this threat comes in two different flavors. The Stormcloaks are all "We'll save the world, but only because our land happens to be part of it." and the Imperials are all like "We have a plan to stop the Thalmor. Well, we've planned to set aside some time to make the plan. Tomorrow."
