Now, I really freaking love oblivion, it has everything i love about Morrowind mixed with Skyrim. I at first got it on ps3, but eventually my game would freeze when i saved. I took my last auto save, and put it on a stick. I then tried to find a way to convert it to the PC version, and just yesterday i succeeded. However, It still crashes when I save. I have tried everything - Wyre Bash, Hex editors, .ini tweaking....
I have no mods, and had Oblivion GOTY on ps3 and Deluxe GOTY on PC. I really hope that i won't be forced to give up, because I did 99% of the quests and was about 50% of the way through of completely exploring all of Cyrodiil. I put 111 hours into this save, and I really don't want to start over.

It's that old, notorious Oblivion bug that I can never remember the damn name of (nuke something something?).
Basically, if you complete a massive portion of the game's quests and content, it can eventually start sputtering out and just straight up destroy the save. I believe it had something to do with too many active scripts running at once and bloating the system, but as far as I know there's no fix for it.
Sorry dude, but I think the most you can do is just start anew again. :c

Thank you, my good sir. But is it like that on all platforms? I've 100%'d Skyrim and I've done almost every quest in Morrowind and explored roughly 50% of the locations, will I be able to 100% Morrowind?VirtualWeasel wrote:It's that old, notorious Oblivion bug that I can never remember the damn name of (nuke something something?).

I also clicked 'remove bloat' on Wyre Bash, which did nothing.

Actually there is a fix for the a bomb. Do a search of the forums and it should come up. I'm surprised it wasn't a stickyed post.

I've used Wyre Bash to fix it. It didn't do anything. Abomb is losing the ability to save, correct?Stingm wrote:Actually there is a fix for the a bomb. Do a search of the forums and it should come up. I'm surprised it wasn't a stickyed post.

Skyrim is different—the Creation Engine is significantly more optimized than the previous engine Morrowind and Oblivion ran on (despite the frequent bugs and glitches, that's just a byproduct of an open-world game) and scripts run much smoother than they had in the past. The Jolly Swagman wrote:Thank you, my good sir. From what I remember, Morrowind had a potential to do the same as well, but I don't believe it was as common as Oblivion. I know as I've gotten pretty far along in Morrowind, I've gotten game lag in certain areas, but have certainly never lost a whole save to it.
I think when it comes down to this particular bug, it's a guessing game. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't, but it's more likely to happen in Oblivion than the other two. The only tip I could offer is trying to save your game in a new save slot, if you've been overwriting previously. Clean saves seem to help these kinds of problems in general, though I wouldn't call it a permanent fix.

Actually, no, I was just gonna go back and edit my post before I saw your response
Try this: http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/5127/?
I've never personally used it, but after digging around on the forums here I found some testaments to it fixing the problem.
