For the past 2 week or so, i've had this cough and it has been kicking my arse. Normally, my body is able to deal with almost everything. My immune system used to be like Spartans. Now, it's like a horde of goblins facing a TES hero. Was forced to take 2 days off work in total and being forced off work due to sickness is something i really hate. Getting it checked out on Monday to see if it's a chest infection or just a nasty cough. On the plus side, the worst of it seems to have gone.

In other news, i picked up Shadow of Mordor, worked me arse off and generally avoided coughing up my lungs.

It's too early to say with any degree of certainty, but there is a small chance that I may be published later this year.

I had a professor approach me about submitting one of my papers to the academic journal that my university will be producing. It will be the first edition, so I'm not familiar with the procedure, but he seemed to think my paper was one of high enough quality to be considered. It would be cool to be published, but the paper he suggested was not one I really enjoyed writing, so it took my by surprise. Apparently I would also need to present the paper, which is a little more than I care to do (at the moment), because of the fact that I don't particularly care about the material.

If nothing else, it's nice to have my work recognized by a professor.

I got new lenses for my glasses on Wednesday. I just went outside to shovel snow (there was about a foot of soft snow on the deck, with another few inches of harder stuff under it) and after a few minutes I went, "Hey, it's getting dark out." A few seconds later, that was followed by the inevitable, "Oh. Duh. Transitions lenses." I forgot I picked out those ones. The bloody things cost $500 (not as bad as my mother's $900 lenses), but at least they work.
I'm just happier that I can see without those blasted scratches getting in the way.

I never did manage to shovel all the snow off the deck. Just the soft stuff. I was going to get to the harder stuff (would've needed the smaller metal shovel for that), but I was coughing constantly and my throat was on fire. Would be nice if I wasn't sick, but these things get passed around easily. Especially when you work at a library where sick kids come and go all day. Or sick library directors. I have no idea who shared it.

Other than shoveling snow, I also attempted to make my own salsa (for the first time ever). I wanted nachos for lunch, but we didn't have any salsa. I just used the tomatoes my mother had sitting around (she wasn't using them) and made a salsa out of them, peppers, and onion. No idea what else I put in it now. At least it didn't taste too bad on the nachos.

I've also been watching movies today. How to Train your Dragon 1 and 2. Currently listening to Madagascar.
And I don't have my glasses on right now (they're fogged up and dark) so I have no idea what I've typed. I can't see my screen.

Just went on a mountain trip with the family at Zweisimmen. It was freakin' cold but the view up top is gorgeous. I liked to imagine that I was at the Throat of the World and was just waiting for Paarthurnax to appear behind the peak and give me the next objective for the main quest.

This weekend I got a new (to me) TV. My previous one was a 15'' monitor that I was borrowing from my parents; I needed to bring a chair up right in front of it to see anything. Found a 32'' one for a reasonable price on Craigslist. It's nice to be able to watch TV while sitting on the couch.

For the first time in my life, I actually did something romantic on Valentine's day. So, there's this girl I've been good friends with for a while, and we've texted nearly every day for the last 2 months. Today we decided to hang out, since we don't really get a chance to very often. (I'm technically not allowed to date her since she's still in High School, and I volunteer to coach improv there, so technically, with little real legal backing, I could get in serious trouble for it.) It didn't really occur to either of us that it was Valentine's day, but it worked just as well. It started as us just talking about life, sitting on the curb of our shared Jr. High's parking lot, but eventually she got cold. While she was showing something to me on her phone, our arms touched, and she noticed that I seemed really warm. We laughed about this, and well, yadda-yadda-yadda, her and I started cuddling on the sidewalk in the relatively secluded parking lot as we continued talking. We stayed like this for a good 15-30 minutes, I lost track of time. I hadn't even held her hand before, and then we took this leap... but then a pretty good downside struck...

So just a little after we stopped cuddling, two trucks pull into the parking lot. The people inside the trucks were obviously not old enough to drive, and the epitome of the work "hick." They started doing donuts near where we had parked our cars, basically threatening to slam into hers. In perhaps the single most macho moment of my life, I got up and started walking towards them. They started talking big game, but as I got closer, they started backing down. (I knew I didn't have a chance if it came down to a fight, but the girl I was with certainly did) Both cars drove off, but one went in the opposite direction of his buddy, turned around, drove past us again and one of the delinquents in the car proceeded to moon us... thankfully she was there for brain bleach, but still...

After a while of us continuing talking, I see another truck pull by, with the same bunch of hicks as before. They yelled at us for a bit, telling us to do certain things to them, each other, our mothers... It was then that the girl and I got to have the lovely bonding experience of flipping off and cussing at stupid strangers together. (That's right ladies and gentlemen, I swore, be shocked ) Though it was annoying, we didn't let it get to us, and enjoyed being together until we really had to go. With one last hug, we said goodbye, and the moment she got home she texted me...

Best. Valentine's Day. Yet.

(For clarity, neither of us have ever said that we like each other, but honestly I don't think we ever really need to. I have to wait for her to graduate in about 15 months before we can become officially a thing though... but we've said that we doing things "as friends... for now" several times, so it's pretty obvious that something may happen between us someday.)

After being with her, it was a fairly normal day in the life of ZeRoc. Hung out with friends and played video games.

Twas a busy week for me and i love it! I love the challenge of meeting deadlines. I love having a lot to do at work and i am excellent at my job. Granted, i do make stupid mistakes every now and then or get cocky, go "Ah, this will only take a few hours." Then go "Bollucks! This is taking longer then i thought it would! [&@%!]!". I think I'll be just as busy next week and probably continue to be busy for a while! :D

My manager told me about an Apprentice Residential after she was sent some information about it and i agreed despite the fact that a part of me doesn't want to go due to how dedicated i am to my job but i know i would regret it. It's teambuilding stuff, leadership, communication skills etc.. From what i've heard it's a lot of fun and it's at the end of march, just a week after my birthday. And I am hoping that by improving my communciation skills, it will improve my social skills. It's no secret, i'm a bit of a prat at times and i'm pretty much like marmite. You either love me or hate me. But hopefully, this geek will have better social skills soon!

Had a lazy weekend, read game of thrones and played Far Cry 4.

I've actually had a pretty mellow week so far. Due to the massive storm that hit this Sunday, school was cancelled for the entire week. After four days of Zelda, music and Netflix, the plows finally cleared the mass of snow residing on my street. It just so happened that some people I knew were hosting a gig tonight, so me and one of my friends stopped by. Post-mediocre show, we both had a couple hours to kill. After traversing through some immensely large snow banks, practically freezing our asses off and almost getting run over three times, we shared a laugh at some horrendous 80's country/gospel records, which we found at a local pawn shop. An hour or so later, my friend and I decided to go get some coffee, where we ran into some other people, of whom we tagged along with for the rest of the night. In other news, I got my licence a couple weeks ago :D

Today I went to the dentist and learned I have to get a filling, which I've not had to do before. :/ For those who've had one: do you recommend silver or tooth-colored? (Nobody's going to be able to see it; I'm just wondering how they feel and stuff - does silver feel cold, for instance?)

If it's going to be in your mouth, it's going to be at your body's temperature. I would go with tooth color fillings, that way you can kind of just forget about it.

So, what has ye ol' semi-active/barely active/[&@%!] Dovah been up to, ye ask?

Well, i've been busy with work and joined a new Roleplaying site that's for adults only. I'm enjoying my time there much more then another site that i ended up disliking for reasons.

At work, we are dropping like flies. I'm attending a Networking Event at our head office tomorrow so that should be interesting. It's about Apprenticeships and annoyingly, i have 4 hours of travelling in total to do tomorrow. I could use 4 hours to get [&@%!] done but it's my choice and my manager is happy for me to attend it. Made a cock up but that was sorted out. Won't say what it was. Making good progress with my Functional Skills work. (Maths and I.T) discovered that i don't know how to do a certain forumale in excel and that kinda bruised my Godzilla sized Ego.

Outside of work, i'm hating March purely because of [&@%!] expensive it is. >:( Got my birthday to deal with, need to get stuff i need for a residential and generally hating my sometimes [&@%!] wage. Oh and i will have to job hunt in april due to my apprenticeship contract ending in August. I just need to put my two after apprenticeship plans in place to avoid a case of "OH YOU [&@%!] BELLEND! WHY DIDN'T YOU LOOK MONTHS AGO YOU [&@%!]!?". I'm not kidding, i would most likely think that to myself.

Oh and I vowed to try to be more active on here. So far, that's not happened.

I have a treatment running for the first story in my fantasy world setting— a detective noir in dystopia. I dread having to play the "shuffling storypoints-on-index-cards" game at the moment because of the tornado-with-a-tail currently stalking my living room is going to wreak havoc once I lay the cards out on the carpet.

To be succinct: a member of the City Watch investigates a missing persons case, except the person isn't missing— they just shouldn't be there in the first place. Oh, and the sun's burned out. But the wizards are keeping everyone alive, so no worries there... :wat:

I remember when I was a kid my dad helped me put together a computer desk I bought from Wal-Mart. With all the parts, diagrams and (shoddy) tools it came with it was faaar beyond me. I remember my dad saying he'd help me but only if I promised I'd do the same for my kids in similar circumstances. I didn't think I'd EVER have the know how to undertake such a project so I lied and said I would.

Now at 29 it's fun to look back on that day. I've surpassed my dad when it comes to auto/marine mechanics and electronics in general. I don't think I ever thought I'd reach the point where I am today (/have been for a years): I can fix everything. A lot of the times 'everything' requires items that the average consumer doesn't purchase and so you won't find them on shelves, so I have to shop online. Radio Shack used to be this place (in my mind as a child) where I have no business there; electronics and wires and things are too much for me. I just couldn't picture myself being in a situation where I need electronic supplies.

Nowadays when I walk in there it's just not the same. I'm that dude. I'm that dude holding up the line looking for a particular tactile switch or as in todays case, some friggin soldering wick (so common in electronics world it's like a paint brush to a painter).

Radio Shack I have a question, why the [&@%!] should I drive to your store and have soldering wick 'special ordered' to your location. How about I just buy this [&@%!] online and have it shipped to my house for next to nothing? Also a comment, maybe you morons should return to your roots instead of selling TVs and whatnot. Your sales will only come from folks who haven't heard of WalMart, BestBuy, Target, etc.

Yesterday my work celebrated Pi Day by having a pie-making contest (I got second place, after a Boston Cream Pie which should have been disqualified since it's really a cake). I also, for the first time since my surgery, reached to take my glasses off before going to bed before remembering I don't have them anymore, so I guess that means my eyes are definitely getting better.

Today my friend invited me to her family's St. Patrick's Day dinner; it was absolutely delicious. :)

But it has Pie in it's name! That's discrimination against Boston Pies! :P It sounds like it was a fun team building activity, Alarra.

I've had a bit of a [&@%!] week and have decided to not attend any events for the rest of my apprenticeship as i lost 4 hours of work due to travel times. Got royally [&@%!] off on tuesday after losing 1.5 hours worth of work due to techincal issues and generally had a mixed week.

In life, life is great. Will need to start looking for another job in April as i only have a few months left untill my apprenticeship ends and i will have 1 of my 2 plans in place. Either Temp work or another full time admin job.
