Veteran ranks and champion points

Post by Deandra »

This should be relevant to anybody who has leveled a veteran rank character.

Currently, ZOS's plan come 1.6 is to award 30 champion points to every account that has at least one character that has reached at least v1, and that there will be no additional points awarded to those who have leveled their characters higher than this. The rationale for this is that having veteran ranks combined with extra champion points would exacerbate the existing divide between high and low rank players.

Previously, many players expressed concerns that, once the champion system was released and the level cap set to 50, players who had completed most non-repeatable quests would be penalized in that there would be no good remaining way for us to earn champion points. ZOS assured us that they were tracking experience past v14 and that we should continue to play our characters without fear of being forced to grind for champion points due to not having any quests left to complete.

While the English-speaking representatives have been noticeably quiet on the subject of whether we would actually get champion points for vet ranks later on, once vet ranks are removed, a German rep has answered the question here: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/di ... nt_1438505 and http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/di ... nt_1438787 (google translate works fairly well if you can't read german). He also states that a player who has quested through the game should be able to earn champion points as easily as a player who is just starting cadwell's silver, but he gives no explanation for how that might be. Judging from the fact that we got no credit for undaunted achievements earned past rank 5 before the 1.5 patch, making it harder for players to earn rank in that skill line the more dungeons they had previously run, my hopes for this being true are low.

If this subject is at all relevant to you, you may want to submit some /feedback to the devs. Please make sure to be polite and stick to the facts. Here is a sample letter:
I understand that, currently, there is no plan to convert any veteran ranks or experience to champion points beyond the initial 30 given to everybody with a vet rank 1 character. I am disappointed that the many hours I spent earning experience will essentially be wiped out. This is experience I have earned while paying my subscription for months. Also, by having completed many un-repeatable quests, my main character will have fewer ways in which to earn champion points once the system is in place. This means that the time I have spent playing in my preferred style is actually going to penalize me and make it harder for me to level compared to newer players. I feel that this penalty to your most loyal players is misguided, and I hope that you reconsider giving us champion points for veteran experience we have earned pre-1.6.

How many champion points will the non-vet characters be able to earn over the course of the Cadwell zones, compared to the 30 we'll be given?

I wouldn't worry too much about it, it's obvious that they're aware of the issue. Otherwise that guy wouldn't be giving assurances in the second link.

The way it sounds, unless I'm not reading it right, I'm kind of glad I've only got one character, though I'd better seriously hustle to get up to VR3 and get 200,000 XP on top of it. I know I wont make VR4 before the system rolls out.

The way they're dividing points, per that forum post, seems kind of complex and disjointed to me, but its still better than how it sounded originally. At least the devs and project managers at ZOS listen sort of, they reply to email at the least.

That sounds way better than the original proposal. I'll miss the Veteran ranks, though. They're useful in PvP for showing how much 'tougher' than you another player is. I never feel bad when my EP V7 gets killed by 3-5 AD V14s (also known as a "swarm of bees" ;) ).

Now I'll have to learn what all the Alliance War rank symbols mean, and there are dozens of those!

More chevrons = higher rank. A little diamond on top is like half of a chevron. I've got 3 chevrons with a little diamond on top for First Sergeant.

If you see weird shapes like crescents or multiple little boxes, WATCH OUT! Those are the people who have earned literally millions of AP.

Huh.
Having never really looked at the Rank insignia in this game, I'm kind of surprised that its that close to the US Army and Marine Corps. They depict it as 3 Chevrons, three rockers and what they call a "French lozenge" which looks like a diamond in the middle for 1SG. 1SG is basically your ultimate boss that you interact with all the time (virtually everyday really) when you're Enlisted, they're the Enlisted manager at the Company level, so they lead the Platoon Sergeants, but are involved with the Company's Soldiers as well.
