Changing the .ini file does not reset the Abomb counter, so problems will still arise.
Having had fixed my Abomb bug using the .ini fix I thought I was ok, but began having game freeze issues. The entire game would simply freeze and the only way to get out of it would be to Control Alt Delete and Restart my entire system. With over 280 mods installed and game freeze issues primarily centering around Skingrad I presumed I had a mod conflict. But shutting off Unique Landscapes, Martigen Monster Mod and a number of other experiments yielded no results. I approached despair, believing my save games to be corrupted. But changing fAnimationMult back to 1 and applying the Abomb bug fix in Wrye Bash completely repaired the issue. My Abomb counter was at a whopping 243% at over 600 hours of play. The Wrye Bash fix also repaired my inability to fast travel to Grateful Pass stables outside Skingrad, where much of my troubles seemed to be centered.
I believe that the Oblivion Animation Fixer (OAF) also resets the Abomb counter, so if you don't use Wrye Bash I would recommend that mod instead of resorting to the .ini change
I've been an Internet user and forum dweller since 1995, and to this day, for the life of me, I cannot comprehend the drama over the bumping of old threads. News flash: we're discussing a game that released in 2006. A thread from 2012 ain't all that old.
this is the only forum I've ever seen that has any qualms about bringing up old threads. most forums I've been to they want you to find a relevant thread to post in, instead of always starting a new one.

I've seen that preference most notably on Game Informer's forums. I don't go there much any more.
Forums are odd places. There is always someone who gets bent out of shape and tells the OP to do a search because "asked and answered" [rather than bother him for information and keep the forum alive for people who like to participate,] but at the same time you are not allowed to add good/better information to old threads. Google searches for Oblivion information pull up threads on game forums. If I'm searching for information, other people are too, and frankly, much of the information on old threads looks like it was written by semi literate fourteen-year-olds who talk like experts after limping their character all the way to level ten using a half dozen cheats.
IMO, this was a good resurrection because someone (like me) searching for a fix could have made a bad fix based on the old posts.
My post was intended to help those struggling with the game issues I experienced and solved.
I worded it carefully to maximize the likelihood that it would come up on a google search by someone experiencing the same issues I did.
If I posted it in the "wrong place" I'm sure I'm sorry, but my mission is accomplished and my discoveries are now public and waiting for those that need them.
If my information is incorrect - please correct it. Otherwise, have a nice day.
Serighon, don't let it bother you. UESP is the personal lounge of [&@%!]-retentive compulsive long-time regulars who have always worshiped the letter of the law while completely ignoring the spirit of the law.
