Removing the HUD

Post by Venger »

I use DarkUId DarN. Before I start playing I manually turn Off every available option in the in-gam HUD menu that the DarN UI offers. However, there is one little bit that doesn't go away; the interaction icon.

Center screen, on the woman. How in the name of the Nine Divines, and ah heck I really mad, through the Aedra and Daedra into that swear too, do I make that go away!!!

In this image I manually edited the DarkUid DarN .xml file (file extension "drive\Oblivion\data\menus\prefabs\darn\hudmainmenu_config.xml") to keep all selectable HUD elements permanently off. Switching them off each time I started playing became too annoying. However, either through the in-game UI, or through the .xml file, removing the interaction icon doesn't seem to be an option.
EDIT: Correction, it may /possibly/ be an option in the .xml file. However, I didn't understand everything I read in there and could have easily over looked it.

How do I make it go away????

Also, if I could get the pop-up text that defines entry ways, whether they be caves, ruins, city gates, etc, that would be peachy swell too. Any thoughts on this?

Can't you just go to the in-game options then Gameplay and disable the crosshair?

I dunno about the default otions, but the DarN UI menu offers an option to turn the crosshair off, yes. However, I have done that already. But the crosshair and the interaction icon appear to be two separate elements. Even with the crosshair turned off I still see the interaction icon.

The only time I see any on screen HUD elements is when ever I scroll over an interactable object, such as a body, a door, loot, etc, or when ever I transition through doors, gates, etc. I would like both of these things to go away.

Update: In my latest forray into the Oblivion .ini file I found the solution to my issue.

On line 463 of the Oblivion .ini file, under the section Gameplay, set the line "bDisableDynamicCrosshair" to 1 to turn off the interaction icon; the dynamic crosshair. (I should imagine, by process of logical reasoning that the Disable Crosshair option in the in-game menu only applies to the Static Crosshair, though I have found no reference at this time that calls it that.)

Note that this does NOT remove the door and name descriptives. Although with the mod Nice To Meet you, which can be found on TESNexus, it can be set to turn off all NPCs names via the mod's .ini file.

Ahhh...now I understand. I thought that static crosshair and the interactive crosshair were the same thing, with just changes in it's graphic when you scroll over a door or an NPC or something.

Anyway, glad you figured it out.
