Which guards would she question? The ones that are in the fight, and the ones that stay at the tower when you return? or the ones who just heard the shouting? not even Irelith (probably not her name) is back at the palace, and neither is Delphine. How can she be there if she is not there when you return? She was likely leaving when the fight was going on. She might have left when Balgruff was talking and handing out the orders.

how does everyone know she stays in whiterun the wholt fight until everyone at the tower returns. the only logical way for her to know what is going on and believe it is to see it herself. You cannot trust words all that easily just bcause "THEY SAW IT!"
if she is a spy, she should be able to figure out something important is going on and find a way to learn what it is. she wouldn't be much of a spy if she couldn't. even if she was leaving town when it happened, she should notice the band of soldiers rushing out. not to mention the dragon flying around.

Well, at least some of them do have second thoughts about the whole werewolf thing (Kodlak, Vilkas). But yeah, it's annoying you don't have a say if you want to become a werewolf or not. Fortunately that can be cured after the questline.

The Silver Hand annoys me, too. Mostly because nothing about them is explained. Who are they, exactly? Some kind of Dawnguard-copy with criminal inclinations? An excuse for a bunch of bandits to go and kill people? And how do they even know that the members of the Circle are lycanthropes? And if they know, how on earth do they have the balls to attack the society of supposedly the best warriors in Skyrim? Nothing of this is explained, which gets me mad. I wonder if even the Bethesda writers know or even care about the answers to these questions.
Bandits in this game can get pretty ballsy. Alain Dufont can still continue his villain rant, even as he sees his men being mauled by a giant wolf.

"If she is a spy, she should" NOTHING. She already likely knows what is going on. That is why she goes to the place where the horn of Jurgen Windcaller was. She does not know the player is Dragonborn, and there is no logical evidence outside of her being there that would prove that to her completely. She might have asked guards, and got words that she might not have believed.

She is not even a spy anymore. She is simply a member of the blades hiding out as an inkeeper

even if she was only half paying attention she should find out. it's her job, and it's something she should be interested in. it affects her more than anyone else, since the dragonborn is supposed to be the one she serves. everyone else in the game including random people who walk by you learns this stuff, but she can't be bothered to. if she needed proof, she could just ask to see you shout or something. or heaven forbid, ask someone, like the graybeards. her test was stealing the horn, which really proves nothing except that you wanted the horn. any random bandit could want the horn just to sell for cash.

Her Job? You mean being an Innkeeper? The blades are defunct right now, so I can hardly say that her being a blade is her "job" in any sense of the word.

That would be like me having been trained and being a member of the CIA in the USA, then leaving. Am I a bad spy because I do not do anything spy-related anymore?

I do not really consider her or Esbern as anyone of any importance, so her being a bad anything is stupid for an argument.

You'd have to ask yourself, Ash: Then why is Delphine busying herself by getting into our business?

If we can realize that Delphine isn't a very good chess player, then perhaps we should feel somewhat resentful when she treats us like her pawn.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

She was a blade, but she is not right now, so I cannot resent her for not doing something she probably never chose to do.

Just be honest. You all hat Delphine because she does not bow down and worship you all like a god.

I do not care about her, after getting the three people for the Blades (which you can do before the Ultimatum), she is no longer important.

The consequences of the Main Quest were so blatantly the result of Delphine's choices that I cannot fathom how you contrived that conclusion.

First of all, no one is ever forced to become a Blade. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Secondly it was Delphine who wanted the Dragonstone in the first place, which is why she tasked Farengar to obtain it.

Then, rather than sit in the background watching while your fate unfolds, she actively intervenes by stealing the Horn.

Honestly, I'd settle for her treating me like someone with a respectable opinion.

For the Consequences thing: Not exactly true. It was destiny that we would be doing the MQ, Delphine just helped the process and pointed us in the direction.

For the blades thing: True, but that is not important.

for the dragonstone: But not to find the Dragonborn. It was a map for Dragon Burial grounds. It was always about the dragons.

For the Horn, it was he only way she could possibly draw out the Dragonborn. Though KI will give it that she did not have to steal it, but using it as bait to meet the Dragonborn was a logical thought.

For the respectable opinion: Again it comes back to the dragons. the LDB is the ultimate weapon against the dragons, a dragon in a mortal body, and thus, able to take on dragons at their own games and end them for good.

Honestly, it is all about the dragons, and the dragonborn is the ultimate tool for that end. Everything she does is more about the dragons than you as the dragonborn. And I am fine with that.

The one kernel I can present to you now is this: We don't resent that Delphine/The Blades exist. They're a vital component is pulling the story forward. The problem is how they were used to further the Main Quest— in a magisterial, somewhat antagonistic fashion that doesn't quite fit into their character because of poor writing and game mechanics.

This creates problems trying to foster any sense of loyalty, obligation or respect for the Blades— qualities which are especially important to hold when they give you the very tall order of betraying and slaying an ally if you want their continued support.

she swore a life long oath to the blades. so she is a blade. also even if she was just an innkeeper, you're always supposed to ask innkeepers for info in ES games, and if she is so bad at gathering info, she is also a bad innkeeper.
I don't hate her because she doesn't bow down to my character. I couldn't care less about it, it is her all consuming uselessness I hate.

To be fair, it's more like Dawnguard is a Silver Hand-copy with more honorable inclinations.

Re: Delphine, what I've never understood (and maybe this is explained somewhere in the dialogue that I missed) is how she actually knew you were going to go after the Horn in the first place. How could she have known that's where the Greybeards were going to send you? It doesn't really have anything to do with the actual plot - is that just the typical Dragonborn test? Because it's a pretty [&@%!] test - other than that one puzzle door, you can get through it without being the DB just fine. (And if that's just a typical DB test, then what? Do they just keep putting it back down there in Ustengrav for the next DB who comes along?)

Inclinations being the operative word. http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Hide_and_Seek_%28quest%29 Kill a person wearing a black hood because you believe him to be a criminal, despite having no solid proof, without being seen by the authorities because they will, according to law, arrest you for murder... Does this remind you a certain fairly recent controversial criminal case IRL? Perhaps, moreso, if the vampire in question was a Redguard?

You contradict yourself with every post. First she doesnt know anything, now "she knows what is going on". How does she knows whats going on if she isnt a spy? How does she have authority over the jarls court, who secretly supports the empire, if she is not an empire agent? And most importantly, if she is interested in dragon bussiness, why would she leave when there is an actual DRAGON attacking the city? These are facts.

We have isolated 2 possibilities according to your contradictory statements.

A. She is a spy whose only goal is to make use of the dragonborn as best as she can, while aiding the empire and pretending she knows anything about dragons. She clearly opposes the greybeards the pillars of nord tradition and history.

B.She is a retarded idiot.

Now my only question to you is: How come you dont see, that you are wrong, when everybody else does? Why do you protect a poorly written character and her plotholes? Id like to understand it.

That obnoxious kid in Whiterun, Braith or something, really annoys me. Oh, and wolves. Wolves too. Especially when I'm enjoying a nice ride on horseback. Go away, wolf, I am making up for lack of pony-petting in real life.

Skyrim is the first Elder Scroll game I refuse to do Dead Is Dead on. ALL THE TIME I'll have half health, about to heal then I'm COMPLETELY frozen, forced to 3rd person to watch an execute. What the Hell?? I WOULD NOT HAVE DIED. THEY WOULD HAVE NEVER HIT ME BEFORE I HEALED IF IT DIDN'T PARALYZE ME TO SHOW A KILLCAM.

Bethesda made a HORRIBLE, horrible mistake in not allowing players to completely disable killcams. For a dev team as consistently amazing as they are, this is inexcusable.

I love Skyrim still, but this one issue annoys me more consistently than any other. The only other huge issue is that everyone and their grandma is essential. If they were part of the main questline, fine. I get that, it protects the story, they may not realize what they're doing. That's a good thing. Side quest givers are a different story, even for major factions. Why does the Thieves Guild have to be 90% essential? Most of my characters will NEVER BE THIEVES. Why can I not kill them for Riften's sake? THAT'S something he'd do.

One striking example of something similar happened to me with a low-level character fighting a Frostbite Spider near Guldun Rock. I'd just been poisoned by a bite when my last shot at point-blank range triggered a killcam on the spider. I could hear the heartbeat of low health as the shot was made and, rather than being able to use any kind of healing to counteract the poison, I'm being subjected to the close-up slow-motion snuff [&@%!] of a drooling arachnid dropping dead.

Never even had a chance to save myself— the heartbeat began to accelerate as the last of my health drained away and my character was finished the moment the killcam did.

That's what I mean. You die in situations where you never would have both by the game's mechanics, in your instance because you'd of just used a potion, or in thematic sense. Your character wouldn't have done that if she were perilously close to death. She'd of stopped to drink a potion, Bethesda  . Roleplaying logic aside, it's still annoying. The fact it breaks immersion is just gravy.

It'd annoy me if I were just playing casually. I don't like losing control over my character without any realistic reason, and to show me a killcam for an entirely avoidable death isn't quite a good enough reason for me to be OK with it. Paralyze spells? Perfectly ok. Shouted down? Not annoying in the slightest. Frozen in place to watch me die when I would'v lived? *Flips desk*

Another amusing example comes from dueling with another archer. It's a bit of a game dodging a little to the side to avoid the other person's arrows, but in a few instances we make a shot near-simultaneously. We go into a killcam that follows my arrow in flight until it sends the other person flying backwards on impact.

That's all nice and good, but what about their arrow that was heading my way while I'm watching this "Pearl Harbor" shot? I come out of the killcam to find an arrow sticking out of my head. No permanent damage, fine. But still embarassing.

Add to that the fact that this particular killcam doesn't guarantee that the enemy winds up dead. I've had my arrow miss the target a number of times.

Sadly combat in skyrim is outrages. My lvl20+ buffed 2w fighter in heavy armor has been decapitated several times by some overpowered low level mob for no reason.
Last time it was a friggin bandit something, in fur or hide armor not sure, wielding a 2handed iron or steel axe. It hit me twice, took down to half hp, than decaped me.
The game was obviously cheating against me. It just said "you're dead, because [&@%!] you." How could some bandit trash kill my character whose armor and weapons out classes his by several tiers?

About the thieves, deves were lazy. It can be seen in all aspects of the game. In order so their game would not be broken on every turn, they just made many named characters immortal. the thieves are connected to the black-briar [&@%!], who in turn can become a jarl, and again devs were lazy so they didnt make a destroy the thieves guild quest like they did with the DarkB.
They of course blame it all on the players because in morrowind nothing was essential or something, so they just broke the story or something. Dont really know I didnt play that.
Funny how despite that, many TES players think morrowind was the best.
The fact is skyrim is not great because of the devs work. Its great because of the modders work.

The Jarl of Whiteruns' snotty, disrespectful little brat. You would think that a JARL would have beat some respect into his son a long time ago, or at least told him "Hey, don't insult the people I'm talking with."
Mobius One made it home.
