I got the Morrowind FPS Optimizer, for the purpose of increasing view distance.
I was using a helpful post on a forum that apparently I can't post (new here XD), so just google "view distance fps optimizer" or something, you'll probably find it.
The first time, I set the view distance (sorry if I don't use correct terms or whatever) to +4500, just to see how it would affect the game. I set the AI max limit to the right amount, then started Morrowind.
I went into options after loading my save and found I could increase the view distance more, but wanted to increase it further. So I quit, and in FPS Optimizer I changed the 4500 to a 7168, changing AI max again to the right amount.
But in Morrowind, the max view distance was back to default, and then every time I retried with different amounts, the view distance would stay at the default. Every single time. Even 4500 again.
So what happened, what should I do...
Thanks! :D

Re: FPS Optimizer Problem
WAIT, never mind! I figured out the problem, it's all good now. This can be locked.

Re: FPS Optimizer Problem
Just realized now that this is my thread, and I just asked my old self how to fix my problem. >__<
I had the same problem in October, apparently, and fixed it then. Don't remember my solution, though... ;_;
Anyone here who can help? D:

Re: FPS Optimizer Problem
Oh boy, troubleshooting is a glorious thing... >__<
So I found the problem. To enable FPS Optimizer's tweaks, you launch the game with the FPS Optimizer program. The program makes Morrowind "see" FPS Optimizer's .ini file, with the tweaked settings inside.
This code is in the FPS Optimizer .ini file:
Morrowind's vanilla max view distance is worth a value of 7168. This is saying that FPS Optimizer adds a value of 7168 extra view distance, and "last exterior/interior view dist" means (to my understanding) the maximum view distance achievable outdoors/indoors. The value for both is 14336 (set them both in the .ini file, as they were set to weird values that didn't correlate to the changes made inside the program), which is the default 7168 view distance PLUS the program's added 7168 view distance. Double view distance, which is what the program is known for letting you do.
Here's the catch. I launch the game with FPS Optimizer, and go to set the view distance... I can't set it to higher than the default view distance. I exit the game and look in the .ini file, and sure enough...
The "last exterior view dist" had been set to 7168, the vanilla maximum view distance. This change is made AFTER you launch Morrowind with FPS Optimizer.
I can't figure out what is locking the view distance and why. :/

Re: FPS Optimizer Problem
Made some progress.
Granted myself a bit more view distance:
No idea why it now sets 14336 to 10604 instead of 7168, but it's progress.
For reference to anyone getting this problem (and to my future self XD) what I did was add keyboard shortcuts to change the view distance, since I don't use the scroll for that. Somehow that made the program change 14336 to 10604 from 7168.
I think I'll just play it like this. It's still better than the default maximum view distance, and I can't stand troubleshooting this anymore.
