Re: The food thread
So the past couple of days I've been learning how to cook using the grill >_> eventually I'm going to have to ask my friend Jessica to teach me how to make a real steak ^_^ none the less just about 2 hours ago I made a late dinner, grilled veggies, chips, franks, and chicken. In terms of seasonings, oil, and the batch of veggies: Onions, bell peppers, stalks of celery, and mushrooms mixed together with olive oil, sea salt, peppercorn, garlic, basil, chipotle, and a small spoonful of sundried tomato pesto to give it a nice taste. Sliced some potatoes and made thick pieces of chips still with the skin and tossed in with the same seasonings but cooked directly on the grill rather than on aluminum. Franks were just normal franks, eat like you wish. However the chicken was given similar seasonings.. except little oil and salt but plenty of pesto. When I went to cook everything on the grill>_> I threw three stalks of rosemary on the burners.. for one it adds flavor and t2o it kept those pesty bugs from eating me alive >_<
By the end of it all, it turned out better than my previous attempts, so it shows I'm getting better. My favorite bit was the chips by far ^_^ from this day forth, I shall be known as Lord of the Fries! Just know I shall not spare Piggy >:D

Re: The food thread
Chinese food is the best food of all. I'm Italian, my family cooks a lot, I'm a foodie, I've traveled across Europe and tried their cuisines but none of this beats Chinese food. If there were to be a cooking contest Chinese food would be cheating because it's instant victory. I've never even been to Asia (yet), I just eat at a local hole in the wall Chinese restaurant and dammit it's so good. I've spent so much money there I probably put the owner's kids through college. God bless you Chan, you're a good man.
Re: The food thread
Mexican food is far better, overall. Sit the [&@%!] down.leroybrown wrote:Chinese food is the best food of all.
Though I do enjoy Chinese food as well, Hispanic/Italian food beats it easily for me. While my diet consists of eating nothing for a week or so, then eating a buffet's worth of food at once, I'd much rather the feast be Italian or something heartier like that. That seems to be how I judge food these days.
Re: The food thread
For [&@%!] and giggles. There's no real reason for it 'cept I've never seen being hungry as a bad thing, so I don't mind not eating much. Makes you appreciate food all the more when it actually comes time to eat.

Not bad!
Today, I ate 3 cheeseburgers, lots of water, 2 slices of margherita pizza, 2 corn on a cob, 2 bananas.
I think that's it.

Re: The food thread
Had some homemade pizza. Well, its not exactly homemade per se, its just one of those pizza kits with a lot of added stuff like black olives and ham and bacon bits and other stuff. It was good.

Re: The food thread
Thinking about planting Swiss Chard. This is the wrong season to plant it but here in FL you can get away with such things if you're careful because although it's not something that copes well with cold temperatures FL only freezes about 5 times in the winter. And being at the beach is also an advantage, it's like a giant heater.
Swiss chard is also one of those veggies where some say it's one of the healthiest veggies out there. One thing that I like about it is there is a general rule of thumb where you want to eat plants with different colors. So don't just eat your greens, but also purples, yellows, whites, blacks and whatever else you can find. Swiss chard comes in an array of colors.
This season I'm also going to plant using an automatic watering system but not like you're thinking of a timer on the water pump. I'll take pics and share, hopefully I can tackle this next weekend. I would say tomorrow but that's doubtful.

Re: The food thread
Any recipe online should do the trick. Just get the proportions right, serve with rice, and BAM, you've got the Swedish 70s on a plate.scribbane wrote:This is something I have never heard of, thought it was a joke, looked it up, and now absolutely must try. Re: The food thread
I've been expermenting with Pastabake for the past few weeks. I've had different olives in them, i've tried chorizo, salami and something else in it. Word of advice, don't use any of the meats i've listed above. They become dry and the texture is a bit [&@%!]. But if you're looking to add variety to pastabake, olives work. Also, use cheese that grates well otherwise, you're going to end up with a messed up core ingredient.

I've had an odd attachment to green juice and falafel lately. With roasted chicken.

Re: The food thread
So, my team at work is doing a potluck lunch. One of them is lactose intolerant, while another is allergic to gluten. Do you guys have any suggestions on anything (mainly desserts) I can make that they both can have?

Dark chocolate and peanut butter? Maybe as a garnish atop pufferfish heart and polar bear liver?
Marshmallows are generally gluten-free, so a melted-marshmallow binder for some sort of cereal-snack that's gluten-free (granola or corn puffs?). Sort of like Rice-Krispy squares, but in non-Rice Krispy form.

Re: The food thread
Alarra, there's some good recipes online. My mother-in-law uses Gluten free baking flour she orders online because its not sold in the stores here. Also there is potato flour but you'll want to check and see that your GF friends can eat it because sometimes they're also allergic to that. I've had some really bomb desserts that were GF so its definitely possible (brownies are easy ones).

Thanks for the tips! I'll take a look.
She's fine with potato flour, I know, so I'll keep that in mind too.
