Another creepy moment: during the Whispers in the Dark quest, when you have to hide inside Night Mother's coffin. That was a nightmare.

Ugh, hiding inside the Night Mother's coffin is definitely catalogued under freaky Skyrim experiences. My poor assassin was traumatized by that event. The dead body didn't bug her as much as knowing that she was caved in when the Sanctuary collapsed.

Oh wow did that thought just scare me. I never thought of the dread that you would go through, being locked in a coffin with a corpse who was talking to you. I think that would drive me insane.

Horror films look like comedies to me now. Because...
I snuck through the Shalebridge Cradle. Being locked in a box with someone who couldn't move, well, never seemed scary any more.

I also find black reach kind of erie compared to normal. its very dark in some areas and gloomy in others. Lots of places for enimies to hide. The other place I hate is the cave that has all the weird erie light making it very hard to see. then its full of traps and falmer. using a light source makes it even worse to see due to the glaring effect.deadfong wrote:Entering Blackreach for the first time. Of course, I also spent the entirety of that first trip in sneak mode.

Hearing the chants of the possessed people of Solstheim as they work on the all-maker stones. The first time I heard that I literally broke out in goosebumps...

Re: Which moments in Skyrim gave you goosebumps?
Two moments:
Encountering a random dragon for the first time. Before I advanced the main quest and activated dragons, I had already played my one and only Dragonborn character for almost 2 in-game years (spread out over about 1.5 real-world years). I had gotten used to a dragon-free Skyrim. So when I heard that roar and saw a dragon fly over my character, it really did feel like the world had changed.
Earlier in that same character's game, there was the moment when she made the decision to become a Nightingale. I knew she'd regret giving her soul to Nocturnal. But what are you supposed to do? Control the character ALL the time? That's no fun.

For me, one of the best goosebump moments was my first play-through in Shroud Hearth Barrow when the gate closes behind you and the Draugr start bursting out of their sarcophagi... When you hear that snick of the metal bars you know there's no turning back, no escape but to kill them all!
Also, anytime I hear that chittering noise the Chaurus makes, I get a rush of adrenaline.

The most creeped out I was in the game was during the pursuit of a black book in white ridge barrow. The spiders didn't bother me at all the dead man in the infusion cage was normal to me. Reading the books and journals on how that thing worked then afterwards un expectantly seeing the poker faced cracked multi-color people emerge from the room. I dared to open. Ya that was my most unsettling moment.
Most scared scared for my character may have been outside the back door of dawnstar sanctuary when 2 legendary dragons one revered dragon one master vampire and her clan as well as the miraak cultists all decided to gang up on me and Cicero. Glad Cicero can fight like a champ and actually uses his brain with weapons and armor I provided. I owe him my life for that moment lol

Re: Which moments in Skyrim gave you goosebumps?
The very first time I played through the Thieves' Guild questline, during "Speaking With Silence" when Mercer and I went to Snow Veil Sanctum to confront Karliah. At the very end, when Mercer sent me up front, Karliah shot me and my first thought was an inappropriate explicative. That caught me off guard a little, yes, but what took the cake was after Karliah disappeared, when Mercer turned on me, and just when I thought I was getting on the guild master's good side. Of course I found out later that he was a greedy scumbag, but the first time through I just figured he was a crusty harsh boss. The sense of betrayal I felt that very first time really got me good, and I knew then I was going to gut that creep and spill his guts on the snow.
Another would be the very first time I played with the Dragonborn add-on. I land at Raven Rock, feeling all sorts of warm nostalgia feels from my Morrowind days. I have drink at the inn, rent a bed for the night for a good rest before a long day of questing... and then I find my character chiseling away at some stone monument with a bunch of creepy monotone mind-controlled thralls. My first reaction literally was "I'm dreaming, right? This is a dream for my character!" only to find that I really was halfway across Solsthiem. From that point on, my character did not sleep at all until the Dragonborn quest was done

Re: Which moments in Skyrim gave you goosebumps?
Werebears and Blackreach, some dragon fights. My favorite part of Skyrim are the Dragon fights really, especially when I'm near forts and the dragon is Legendary. I've had some really big battles that have lasted quite a while where I nearly die at times.
I remember when I was near the fort in the hot springs and 2 dragons jumped me at the same time so I summoned Durnehviir (sp?) and it turned into quite the battle, I was also on Legendary difficulty and under-geared at the time with just some Guild Master Armor on and a basic Enhanced Crossbow/Dagger and shield build.
I ended up feeling very glad that I picked up the Elemental protection perk (I hated it before Dragonborn allowed resets giving me alot of extra points to play with) because without it I would have been completely roasted a few times.
Another moment was getting the invisibility spell I guess, it reminded me of having the 100% cloaking enchantments on all the time like in Oblivion. At first when I started the game I thought they had removed the spell altogether except for potions.
And I guess the last thing would be getting the skeleton key and subsequently raging when I had to give it back on the next quest. Due to that loss I ended up putting perk points into lockpicking even though it's a bad tree, just to give me the same feeling lol.
The main story didn't give me goosebumps at all other than maybe getting to Sovengarde and finding out that it actually exists 100 hours in to my gameplay after spending a lot of prior time laughing at the Nords about it not existing.
Lastly, I would say that killing the stupid Dragon on top of the Throat of the World was pretty funny because of what the Greybeards reacted like. I mean why would you worship something that ruled over you in the past, there is no justice to that. So yeah, I ran it through like every other Dragon after getting the bonus it gave.
Oh fine... One more thing! Going to Solstheim again like 10 years after seeing it the first time. The fort quest was pretty neat as I remember stealing all the stuff from it in Bloodmoon lol. There were a few things missing though such as the shack and the Skaal Village was different I think but overall, pretty cool. I still would have preferred a Summerset Isles expansion though so I could slaughter all of the elves but it was still pretty good. Plus the Blackguard armor is probably my favorite set in the game that I haven't crafted myself and the Stahlrim gives glass a run for it's money aesthetically.
Whats funny is that the Glass set in Skyrim looks like the Stahrim set in Morrowind and the Glass set in Morrowind looks like the Stahrim set in Skyrim. They sort of switched them around.
At least the Glass set in Skyrim doesn't look like the Green Goblins attire from Spider man, that set was atrocious in that game.

Also, the Blood on Ice quest, having to enter Hjerim. I was creeped out in that haunted house type of way the entire time.
And... entering Frostflow Lighthouse. First encounter with a Chaurus. Had to resist the urge to back out so many times...
As for chills up the spine amazement - having free will finally after leaving that cave and seeing the whole wide world to play in. Crossing over the mountains from the Rift into Eastmarch has given me pause when it's a sunrise/set.

Same. Oddly enough though, my fear of Frostbite Spiders seems to be gone now, though my fear of RL spiders is just as bad, if not worse. I think it's something to do with size; giant spiders don't actually scare me as much as tiny ones, because I can see them better.NicotheThief wrote:The first time I encountered a giant Frostbite Spider... Honesty, the only time I've ever felt creeped out in Apocrypha is when I take any of elven or human female characters, mostly it's the tentacles, the seekers there aren't exactly better though, it wasn't scary or even terrifying though. It was kind of a "ugh, those tentacles remind me waaay to much of certain online content."Varyag wrote:The First Black Book and first time I saw Apocrypha... Back at the start when the playing the game was all new and unknown - the moment you absorb the first dragon soul from Mirmulnir at the Western Watchtower, and then walking back to Whiterun and hearing the call of the Greybeards.

Re: Which moments in Skyrim gave you goosebumps?
Good choices, but those were more like 'holy s***!' moments for me. The first time sneaking into Castle Volkihar with Serana gave me the heebie jeebies. Knowing that a powerful Vampire Lord and his progeny were inside made me pretty uneasy. Come to think of it, many of my goosebump moments had to do with vamps. Skulking around in Movarth Piquine's lair was kinda eerie, I guess just because the high-level vamps can be some of the most powerful adversaries in the game.
