Adventure Time

Post by Unionhack »

Adventure Time is, as you most likely know already, is an American animated television series about a boy and his dog having adventures in the magical land of Ooo.

I started this thread because even though I've been watching Adventure Time since its beginning, I've really only just begun really paying attention and noticing how brilliant of a show that it is. With incredibly deep themes and concepts for any show, animated or otherwise and kid-oriented or otherwise, Adventure Time has seriously impressed me as of late.

What really got me was the episode 'Food Chain', which with its beautiful imagery and the thrilling jazzy tune at the end. Kids are exposed to so much garbage on television; they always have been. But after seeing Food Chain I started to pay attention to just how Adventure Time surpasses all of its peers. It still manages to be funny, but can present mature stories and settings without it being blatantly made for adults.

There's so much I can say about the show; the art, the music and songs, the characters are all worth praise. I could go on forever, but you get the idea. My love for this show has really grown lately and I plan to continue watching and supporting it as long as it plays. Anyone else share my love for this show, or at least have given it some mind? Discuss.

It's not funny, which generally kills the appeal of a kid's cartoon.

However, I feel like Adventure Time is one of those series that doesn't need to be funny to be entertaining. To use an example, the flashback episode with Simon and Marceline (spelling?), wasn't funny in the slightest, but it was very entertaining. It was around that episode that I found myself not watching the show for laughs, but because they created a mysterious world with interesting characters that I genuinely enjoyed watching unfold.

I don't think it's the primary intention of Adventure Time to be funny, that's why a lot of people seem to disregard it and call it weird or stupid.
Adventure Time's humor feeds off of it being strange, surreal, and out of place, not slapstick or other in-your-face humor.
Either way, the show seems more about the story and the world than anything.

No no, they are brothers. Jake is a person and Finn doesn't own him.

I know that. I prolly shoulda worded it differently but that is what the show kinda implies before you watch it, you know? Figured I'd lampshade it, I suppose? The show can be deceptive in a good way, I figured I would describe it in the same way.

I haven't posted on here in forever. Still jump on to read this n that.

Agree with Adventure time. Being a Dad of two boys, and having watch countless repeats of different OTHER cartoons... This one is well worth the watch... Totally awesome.

I had to sit through 2 episodes of this while babysitting my cousins kid (with a stiff drink in hand thankfully) and I didn't know what to make of the show. It's sort of like a retelling of Excalibur or something IMO but with other themes mixed in.

I didn't exactly find it to be that profound though, then again the only cartoons I watch are re-runs of the Gundam series and stuff like that, Golden Boy is pretty funny too.

A lot of the humor didn't make any sense in the show but I think it does some things right like the sense of wonderment it would instill in a younger viewer. These days kids are running around with cell phones and growing up too fast and an imagination is a horrible thing to waste. So for that I think the show does pretty good from the 2 times I saw it anyways. Directly after that a show named "Regular show" came on and that was pretty much trash IMO.

I watched the first season of this on Netflix, and enjoyed it quite a bit. It's not exactly my thing, but a bit of variety isn't bad all the time. It feels like a throwback to the cartoons of the 80s and 90s, which is a magnificent era of animation to take inspiration from. I don't think I'm going to hunt down the show on television or on DVD, but I will certainly watch more of it if the opportunity presents itself.

My desire for merchandise is growing, admittedly, as I watch more of the show. My sister's got an excellent shirt of Jake's face that I'm hella jealous of.

I'm really digging the Simon & Marcy episodes too. I'm hoping for more of those in addition to seeing more Fiona and Cake. Haven't seen the newest episode though.
