I'd be interested in hearing how you guys train. Also I think my form is sub-par. Any advice? I've been trying to use my calves more to propel me and also stop the 'feet slapping the street' affect.
Depends on what you're training for. When I prepared for my longer races, I had a strict schedule of miles per week, increasing until the race. So one week I would run 3 days: 1 short run, 1 mid run, 1 long run. The short run would consist of sprints or lunges. And I also trained a lot outside, since Alaskan terrain is uneven and most races are held in some wooded areas. But my favorite part was eating lots of carbs.
If you want to work out your calves, may I suggest doing some standing forward fold with knees bent? You can also do sun salutation lunges: one on each leg and then back to downward dog. Do about 6 of those. Downward dog really gets those calves too.
I remember I had to run to work once (around a mile and a half away) and I got there in less than 15 minutes. That being said, I was totally floored afterwards and it's probably not too healthy to do that.
Damn AKB, I get excited when I shave off a few seconds in my mile time. Two minutes is a lot to celebrate!
Yesterday I met up with my sprinter friend to try to get him back in shape, since he says he needs to be prepared for college-level workouts. We ran a solid two miles, then it started to storm. Not a pleasant experience!
