Re: Skyrim Moments You Just Have to Share!
I turned on my auto-save feature after this misadventure.
First character about a year ago this happened to an unknown idiot. After obtaining the 8th and final dragon priest mask in Valthume (the one with three vessels). I didn't save I didn't fast travel I walked into the "place of masks". Then put on the mask I find in "the room". Panicking in another world I wasn't sure how I was to get back I just quickly dropped the mask and was to probably never see it again unless I reload back to when I discovered Valthume for first time. About an hour of solid game playing, wasted. Lesson learned the hard way. Save save save save

So...... In Faldar's Tooth I found a potion of Fortify One-Handed and Fortify Stamina on a low wall separating the stalls in a "toilet". And the wiki says they are not random potions, it's always those two. So, bandits need some help on lonely nights?

^Lovely!
My new Argonian lost track of time experimenting at Elgrim's alchemy table and suddenly it was midnight and Elgrim told him he needed to leave. Ingun Black-Briar left with him, and as the two of them stepped out onto the walkway Ingun said: "Wow, look at those colours!" I looked up and saw Masser shine down on Riften through a veil of the most gorgeous aurora. Not only was it indeed a breathtaking sight, but I don't remember ever hearing NPCs comment on the aurora like that. (If I may nitpick a wee bit though, Ingun, we certainly don't have that kind of lightshow in Blackmarsh, but I'd suppose you Nords should be used to it...)

Re: Skyrim Moments You Just Have to Share!
That's interesting, but I'm quite sure I had neither (don't even know the spells yet). Come to think of it though, I may have had Healing Aura on (long-term slow healing spell from Requiem) which has a visual effect as well, I guess that triggered it. Never mind what it was, it was just perfectly timed.

Re: Skyrim Moments You Just Have to Share!
I know this may not be much of an achievement but I found it odd how this made me feel. I killed a great warrior today.
I had been putting off killing the Ebony Warrior, maybe out of pity or self-doubt. Today I decided it was time, I took up Dawnbreaker, the sword I used when I fought with the Dawnguard to stop the Vokihar Vampire clan before succumbing to vampirism myself and made for the Warrior's Last Vigil, Being over-leveled it wasn't much of a fight but it wasn't about the fight; it was about giving the Warrior a warrior's death. The first two strikes only angered him, causing him to hurl me towards a large rock with Unrelenting Force, it was more than a taunt, this was no mere sparring match.
Finally, after many more strikes the Warrior fell to the ground, my celebration quickly turned to mourning. I kept the Warrior's belongings, his armor forever stands watch over my second home in Windhelm with Calder, steps away are his sword and bow.
I plan to make a trip to the Last Vigil to leave flowers. May he spar with a man much taller than himself in Sovengarde, Tsun.
(Sorry for the drama, I just got into this battle.

(AnnaMolly) I feel its my duty to give the old orc with the two dead saber cats a fair fight and an honorable death so I get it. Ebony warrior can be a fierce moment.
Today I was clearing out Kolskeegr mine and killed all the Forsworn, walked out of the mine and a courier shows up handing me a letter of Inheritance for a Forsworn looter. Now thats weird.

Re: Skyrim Moments You Just Have to Share!
I once encountered an Elder Dragon while running around exploring near a Giant Camp, so I decided to shout it into submission and ride it around, see if it could kill the giants for me.
The dragon decides to land to fight the giants, and three of them immediately run up to start swinging at it.
Poor dragon. He didn't stand a chance. Neither did I.
There was another time where I managed to get the corpse of a Whiterun Guard to sit on the Throne in Dragonsreach during the Battle, and after Vignar took his place there, kinda looked like the guard's corpse was hugging him.

I once felt like playing a pacifist at the legendary difficulty and my greatest enjoyment at the time was to enrage nearby bandit camps and attract them to the closest city or village (Like Riverwood). Once this happen, I just sit back, drink some ale and eat a sweet rool and look everyone slaughter each others.

Re: Skyrim Moments You Just Have to Share!
One particularly funny thing occurred in a bandit-held cavern. I can't remember the name of the place, but the head honcho was drunk and challenging the others to a brawl. There were a few cages with animals inside, one of which was opened by a lever. Instead of using said lever, I picked the door's lock, but the sabre cat inside was not alerted due to my high sneak skill. I then took aim at the boss guy with my bow. As soon as I let go of the bowstring, the aforementioned feline ran right past me in pursuit of the same prey and was hit by my arrow. The impact was such that it launched his lifeless form all the way across the cave. It went so fast that there was a brief moment when I didn't understand what had happened. That was probably the hardest I've ever laughed in Skyrim.

I one-hit KO'ed a Blood Dragon on Legendary Difficulty (by backstabbing it) which then flew into the air and immediately crashed to the ground dead. Odd that dov can still fly for a short while after they're dead; kind of like chickens running around with their heads chopped off I suppose...

Re: Skyrim Moments You Just Have to Share!
This isn't so much a story as it is a comment about the game.
I started a new game recently and found an unmarked single bandit encampment nestled above Embershard Mine near Riverwood. I've been playing this game for years and no matter how thoroughly I think I've searched places, there always seems to be little details I've missed.
This game world is so detailed and I've never even come close to finding even half of what there is to see if I were to gauge it by a guess. I can't think of a game richer than Skyrim amd I'm glad I keep coming back to it.

Re: Skyrim Moments You Just Have to Share!
So this happened ages ago and I have not been able to figure out why exactly, but once on a new character, I was over-encumbered from having killed a troupe of Imperials leading a captured Stormcloak away somewhere and I wanted to help kill the Giant in Pelagia Farm. Naturally, I downed all my food and a strength potion and hauled ass to the area being on the other side of the mountain. Just before I got there though, the duration ran out and I was forced to drop a ton of armour and weapons. I did get the giant dead though and then the peculiarities struck. I know I had dealt the majority of the damage to the giant and Aela approved of my help. But it's Farkas that's most interesting. He asked to keep some item from the ground and I let him. Immediately afterward, I talked to him as I always talk to the Companions members before entering Whiterun and I saw an option to have him follow me. I thought this strange since I had not yet joined the Companions nor made it to the point when he should be available. Like I said, this is the only time that has ever happened to me, but he makes a pretty good ally to an Illusion/Conjuration mage. So, you know... that's cool.

Re: Skyrim Moments You Just Have to Share!
I usually play in 1st person but sometimes switch to 3rd person to see my characters in their surroundings. But only when it's safe, of course. On the road between the Ritual Stone and Valtheim Towers, I thought it was safe and switched to third person. I swung the camera around to look at my character from the front. At that instant, she was ambushed from behind by a saber cat. I think that's the most startled I've ever felt while playing a video game.

Re: Skyrim Moments You Just Have to Share!
So I'm sneaking around Whiterun after committing a stupid crime out in the wilds and missing a witness (like a deer or something). I sell off my loot to Belethor and decide to head over to the Graymane house to see Fralia to start up Missing In Action. I creep in to see Avulstein with sword drawn per the usual. Fralia starts her conversation like normal when Avulstein swings in for a power attack! So there I am, running around the house like a chicken with my head cut off with Fralia stuck in dialogue thinking just maybe MAYBE he will go into his part of the dialogue. He doesn't and Fralia starts screaming and running. I run out of the house where the guards are practically waiting on me and proceed to run through town with Avulstein and the guards on my Argonian tail. Then, out of nowhere, Avulstein goes into his dialogue (including the part where he says" ...I don't dare leave the house myself. So I need your help.") and traps me there in the dialogue while all the guards of Whiterun are wailing on me! After agreeing to help him, he starts hitting me again (of course). He chases me out of Whiterun including going outside the wall.
So, like a little over an in game week later, I head back to Whiterun (I forget why, I think it was a Companion quest) when I see movement. Avulstein Is crouching up on the wall like he's freakin Batman, jumps down, and starts spamming power attacks at me while chasing me! He would have had to have been sitting there a week just waiting on me! (creepy) So, I bolt.
When I finally decide to pay off my bounty, I talk to him and he's all friendly and polite towards me (and still standing outside the front gate). I know that's what's supposed to happen, but it was way too weird, so I was like, Okay mister Batman, you just wait until we get alone. I need skill points for my werewolf tree. >:)

Re: Skyrim Moments You Just Have to Share!
I get the feeling I might be one of the only players not to have known this already, but I discovered something new today. I was wandering past the ritual stone (on my left) when I looked right and saw what looked a bit like a way to walk up the mountains. I kept following it, expecting to eventually hit a dead end and kept finding a traversable path. It took me all the way to Ivarstead. I never knew there was a short cut there. I always went either the way past helgen or the long way along the road the ritual stone is on.

I call that trail "Stormcloak Pass" because in my mind's eye I can imagine Stormcloaks using it to travel quickly and quietly from the Rift to that camp they'd set up in Whiterun Hold (that path does begin very close to the Stormcloak camp).
The trail ends, of course, near that well with the Wispmother and the troll hollow below Ivarstead.

I never knew you could link up with that trail from so far away. When going to Ivarstead I'll usually hit that trail by going up behind Hillgrund's Tomb and taking the log across the gorge.
This new info is great for avoiding Valtheim Towers. Don't get me wrong, I love clearing out Valtheim. I just don't need to do it every friggin' time I walk past there, especially when I'm on my way to a bigger fish fry.

Dark Spark: That seems a likely enough theory to me.
Evil-i It was pretty cool. It was just a shallow "path" up the mountain, then whenever I thought I was about to hit a dead end I saw a switchback nearby until it finally went around into more of a proper path. Bypassing Valtheim was nice, given how many times I've been through those towers.

Where do you pick up the trail? From the map, it looks like you have to go right through the Stormcloak Camp.Zim wrote:Dark Spark: That seems a likely enough theory to me.

The entrance is east of the camp. You can discern the trail from the Ritual Stone mount, it'd be to the left of the camp.

Re: Skyrim Moments You Just Have to Share!
I missed seeing the camp, but found the trail turning completely away from the ritual stone when I was on the road below it. It started off as a section of the mountain that was shallow enough to walk up. Then when I reached a dead end I looked around and found some switchbacks and those kept until it turned into a proper path. Sorry I can't post a screenshot. I don't have a gaming pc at the moment so it's console only for me.

Re: Skyrim Moments You Just Have to Share!
I saw some bandits attacking a giant and his mammoth the other day when the giant sent one of the bandits skyward.
The thing is, I was able to look up quickly enough to track the bandit at liftoff. As he disappeared from view I was able to guess from the direction just where he'd may end up falling. Sure enough, two or three seconds later the body came streaking down and plopped to the ground without so much as a bounce or cloud of dust.
So, spaceflights last less than ten seconds here. I was hoping for more.

I was exploring a certain Dwemer ruin that involved lots of trial and error hitting buttons trying to open doors (most of them set off traps). I come to a dead end and think I missed hitting a button. Before turning back to I took out some frustration by hitting some spinning mechanical device in the room.
Apparently being hit by an angry orc was the signal to open that door. :p
