Help with missing textures

Post by caralampio »

Lately I'm seeing a few texture problems, caused by one of my many mods maybe. For example, some weapon display cases don't show the glass, and glowing mushrooms are all white instead of their normal color and texture. Question> Is there a way to reset the vanilla textures that doesn't mean re-installing Skyrim entirely? Or some way to pinpoint the culprit mod. If it was caused by a mod. I have already tried verifying the cache files and also starting a new game.
It is strange because most of the mods I have do not affect textures, besides most of them I had already when the glass and the mushrooms still looked fine. There have been a few mods that I have tried out then uninstalled, mostly home mods but supposedly they should not affect the game files? I mean if I uninstall a mod it should not have corrupted or deleted the core files, so if I start an entirely new game the uninstalled mod should not affect?

It very well can be those home mods. All house mods are made using textures from add on texture packs or by taking textures from the game. Some times when they use textures from the game it breaks something and messes with where ever the modder took those textures from.

Sadly if this is the case your save games are all going to be corrupted because you removed the mod that was the causing the problem in the first place or by removing the mod you lost the textures at the same time.

Simple way to check. Disable all mods then start a new game and go to where you know there is a messed up texture in one of your other saves. If everything looks fine then slowly add mods back into the game a few at a time and check to see if one of those cause the problem to happen again. That way you can narrow down which mod is the problem child. Once you have all your mods back in place and did not find the problem then that leaves you will the fact that your saves are corrupted and will always have the issue you described.

Wrye Bash (used in conjunction with BOSS load ordering) is great to use, because at a glance you can pinpoint conflicts and mismatches via the Installers Tab..
