I've been wondering about the Keen Eye skills that are available in the Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Clothing, Enchanting, and Woodworking professions. e.g. Keen Eye: Cloth
Fibrous plants in the world will be easier to see when you are within 20/30/40 meters.
Has anyone experimented with them? Does the perk simply highlight objects which are normally visible within the world if you have good enough eyesight or spend a while searching? Or does it make extra materials appear which aren't normally visible without the perk?
The video on the official site wasn't exactly clear on the matter.

Re: Keen Eye
So far I've assumed it merely highlighted existing nodes. That if you wanted extra, you had to take the hireling passive.

Re: Keen Eye
Yes, keen eye highlights any existing nodes nearby in the distances you provided. The node will let off a yellowish glow that floats above the node, it's quite noticeable. Gathering seems extremely difficult without this skill. It's a must-buy for a crafter.

Re: Keen Eye
Yellowish glow? I thought it was more like smoke rising from it? Either way, I've found a zillion nodes without any points in it. The only thing I've actually liked about it is that it makes it easier to tell apart flax and cornflowers. Seriously.
I think I'll pass and spend the points elsewhere.

I think it's a must have when you're learning what to look for. But, I feel that for iron and the 'steel' nodes or logs I don't need it. Those ones sort of stand out for me now (still haven't found much cloth mats normally though and aside from Nirnroot I'm inept when it comes to herbs)

Re: Keen Eye
i think ill get keen eye 1 in them all. for the glow effect it makes it amazingly easy to spot them at night with it. not really sure ill get more than one in each though. not if they are worse the points until im just maxed out and collecting extra points....

Re: Keen Eye
I've found Keen Eye helped a lot to recognize plants, but I think now I'm good enough at spotting them that I won't get any of the perks. As for everything else, they stand out enough, at least in the early levels (maybe will change late-game?) that I never needed that. BTW, it was a whitish glowy smoke effect for me.

Re: Keen Eye
I've found that ore and wood deposits are easy enough to spot without the keen eye perk. It was more useful for gathering herbs for alchemy, since the harvestable plants can blend in with the scenery sometimes. You'll probably find you need it less as you start to learn what the different plants look like.

Ah, so it's like the Glowing Ore Vein mod for Skyrim. Sweet, I'm definitely throwing a point in there, my colorblindness has NOT been agreeing with me of late.
