Love the guesses although none of them are correct.

Repost:
From the bowels of the earth
To the far reaches of the land
I punish the careless,
the weak and the mad

Far older than the dragon
But younger then a Dunmer
"Pray Mortal for salvation!"
To your father and mother

I take away Aetherius
But that was not always the case
You all should fear me
Regardless of race

Hints:
-Two lines in the riddle are pure meta.
-Father and Mother? Why would you pray to them?

I'm going to have a lot of work on my hands this week so I'm not going to be on that often. With that in mind...

Big Hints:
-The first line in the quote refers to a particular deity. To find which one it is you will have to understand the second line.If you do both of these things you'll end up an inch away from solving the riddle.

-Again,why would you pray to your Father and Mother?

Why didn't I see this sooner... does it hold relation to Akatosh? The deity in question is indeed older than Dragons>_> though to be fair his 'change' from Anuiel occurred before the Dunmer :wat:

The Dovahkiin
Long has the Stormcrown languished, with no worthy brow to sit upon.
By our breath we bestow it now to you in the name of Kyne, in the name of Shor, and in the name of Atmora of old.
You are Ysmir now, the Dragon of the North, hearken to it.

The answer itself is not one of the Aedras but the second line in my quote (To your Father and Mother) does refer to them.

As I've stated above he is involved somewhat in the riddle but not more so then his peers.

 I follow the "Rule/Law of Three" so you'll never get a riddle from me that results in the Dragonborn being the answer.

Hints:The biggest trap in the riddle is by far this segment "Far older then the dragon"/"But younger then a Dunmer".Try looking at it from a meta perspective.

What do we have so far?
Not an Aedra Not a Daedra., Not a Dwemer Not a Falmer, Not an Npc yet a living thing,
Older than dragons, Younger than a dunmer.
Reaches far you may even say The Reach.
It changes,
I can guess whats older than dragons but 'Younger than a dunmer'?
Thats where i got nothing...
Whats younger than a dunmer, im assuming it's an elf, or ...Is it a breton? Are bretons younger than dunmers?

Nothing in game is younger then a dunmer but older then a dragon. It's impossible.

is the answer: Life?

Life is everywhere
There was life before dragons, but for new borns etc. it's younger than a Dunmer
Weak, mad and careless people might experience life as a punishment (a bit of a stretch)
pray to mother and father: they give life
As long as you're alive, your spirit can't travel to Aetherius
In some cases it's possible to travel to Aetherius and back

Well, this is a bit of a long post. Quick guess going in: Alduin.

Hints So Far:
Spoiler:
You may not have seen some of these hints. They're there for the finding, I promise, but I won't spoil it.
~The answer is not: A Daedric item, an NPC, a plant, one of the Aedras, or a deity.
~There is a hint somewhere in this post: Kind as always! :tips hat: Thank you, Norroen!
To be completely honest, this riddle is the result of a ten minute coffee break so it's not as difficult and lore heavy as i wanted it to be.Still, long time fans of the series will definitely have an easier time solving it.

~Stay away from the Daedra. They do not hold the answer you seek. Or... do they?
~The answer can be found on Solstheim...but knowing this fact won't bring you any closer to it.
~Go to the kitchen and grab a lemon.It will help you find the hints.If you don't have any you should ask Elenath.I hear he* has some to spare :) (possibly just silliness?) {*also, I'm actually a she}
~"It's a living thing but knowing this won't help you in the slightest.in fact I'm quite sure it will lead everyone on the wrong path."
~"Father and mother? Why would you pray to them?" (Repeated. This one's significant.)
~"The first line in the quote refers to a particular deity. To find out which one it is you will have to understand the second line.If you do both these things you'll end up an inch away from solving the riddle."
~"(Akatosh) is involved somewhat in the riddle but not more so than his peers."
~"Nothing in the game is younger than a dunmer but older than a dragon. It's impossible."

Clues On Specific Lines:

From the bowels of the earth,
To the far reaches of the land
Confirmed to refer to caves and the Reach. "So it reaches... far..." also may be significant.
I punish the careless "Adventurers/Treasure Hunters" was highlighted as part of an analysis.
But that was not always the case "you've changed over time" also highlighted.

Far older than a dragon
But younger than a dunmer
These lines should be looked at from a meta perspective.
"Pray Mortal for salvation!" Refers to the Aedras.

You all should fear me
Regardless of Race

"Under certain circumstances this two lines are false."

Incorrect Guesses
(Minus those disallowed by other hints.)

Bloodcursed Elven Arrows
Falmer
Lycanthropy
Vigilants of Stendarr
Ash Spawn
Dwemer
Soul Gem
Tamriel or Nirn
Briarhearts

Forget Alduin, It's a disease, isn't it? Alive, but not in the way we expect, found in caves and the Reach, punishing to "careless" adventurers who aren't immune, you pray to the Aedra for healing. The dragon would be Peryite, then. Dunmer have been around since Arena, but Peryite, maybe not. If disease was introduced between those two... "Older than the dragon but younger than a Dunmer".

I feel that the "older than a dragon/younger than a dunmer" part is referring to something older than skyrim, but younger than Morrowind.

is the answer: Life?
Hm,that's not a bad subject for a riddle.
I feel that the "older than a dragon/younger than a dunmer" part is referring to something older than skyrim, but younger than Morrowind.

Spot on!
Forget Alduin, It's a disease, isn't it?
You are correct the answer is a disease and even though you didn't mention which one it is I'm going to give it to you because you've done a fantastic job of analyzing the riddle/hints.The answer is...brain rot!

Explanation...
Spoiler:
The Riddle:
From the bowels of the earth ~Caves/Dungeons etc.
To the far reaches of the land ~It is most prevalent in the Reach but it can be found pretty much anywhere you have hagravens, skeevers and/or traps.
I punish the careless,
the weak and the mad ~It punishes adventurers/Treasure Hunters etc. because they are among the few that brave the sort of places that have all of the above.

Far older than the dragon
But younger then a Dunmer ~Skyrim is not the only TES game in which you can contract Brain Rot.The first appearance of the disease was in Oblivion (Older then Skyrim, younger then Morrowind).
"Pray Mortal for salvation!" ~Combo with the line below=Peryite,Daedric Lord of Pestilence.Dealing with his "subjects" in Skyrim is probably the easiest way to get infected with Brain Rot.
To your father and mother ~one of the ways that you can cure diseases is by praying to one of the Divines ("Father Akatosh","Mother Mara").

I take away Aetherius ~Brain Rot drains magicka.
But that was not always the case ~In Oblivion (due to a mistake) Brain Rot drains Strength.
You all should fear me
Regardless of race ~The argonians and bosmer have high resitance to diseases making Brain Rot (and it's counter parts) less of a threat to them.Vampire and werefolk can't get infected at all because of their "daedric" blood ("Under certain circumstances this two lines are false.")
~Go to the kitchen and grab a lemon. It will help you find the hints. If you don't have any you should ask Elenath.I hear he* has some to spare :) (possibly just silliness?) {*also, I'm actually a she}*
That post was ment as a hint towards finding the actual hints which I wrote with the transparent font color :) (Citric acid and heat was used to unveil messages written with invisible ink so that's why I mentioned "kitchen" and "lemons"). I pointed them towards you because you were the only one (at least to my knowledge) that noticed what I was doing.

*I know you're a she but for some reason my brain didn't register what I was typing at the time.I must have been tired...or maybe I contracted brain rot myself :worried face:
Great job guys! Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with next!

Elenath,you have the floor :)

Great riddle, Mefris! I really enjoy the ones that I can analyse.

I actually guessed the connection between Aetherius and magika, but I couldn't remember which disease drained magika and I wasn't certain enough of that connection to go look it up.

I'll go figure out a riddle now.

A little vague don't ya think?Every other creature in the Bestiary is nocturnal
Spoiler:
BTW guys,we reached a consensus a while back that if any one of us goes MIA for a few more days then it would be deemed as fashionably late the floor becomes open to anyone that has a riddle ready.
