I play on Expert - Kind of. I have a mod which allows me to tweak difficulty. I take as much damage as you would in Expert (x2.0 roughly) but I also deal out as much as you would on Apprentice (x2.0 roughly again). Makes things very interesting.

Master, always. (I don't have the legendary patch yet) ES games aren't fun if everything's too easy, especially Skyrim. I don't want to be able to kill things at low levels.

Come on, there's nothing better than turning yo @$$ and running when you're pounced upon by a sabre cat or run into a troll. Also, i want being attacked by packs of wolves to be a fight for life, as it should be.

I'm playing on legendary (hardest possible?), with my sneaky khajiit. I was bothered by how ridiculously easy everything was, and how overpowered the player is. So I made a new character and switched to legendary, and never switched back. Now the game offers a real challange for once, and I'll actually have to be cautious.

As a further difficulty enhancement, I tend to play realistically and pay attention to aesthetics. I keep fur armor despite comming across superior light armor, simply because I think it looks better.

I am currently playing my first SkyRe play thru. Its enhanced AI and my choice of Master difficulty make for challenging and crazy-fun battles

No. Difficulty just effects the damage recieved/dealt.

I dont understand playing on master and legendary unless you are jacking your equipment way up because I have a smithing of 60, steel weapons and at expert I can wack a bear all day long and slowly watch its heath go down while im sucking down healing potions to stay alive.
do you guys over power your equipment or only put points into your armor and attack or what?

Can't speak for everybody, but my preferred method is to not let the bear hit me in the first place (i.e. hit it with a ranged attack or from the back or sides and dodge before the claws come down). If you're a melee fighter, blocking definitely helps too, as does using the best gear you can find or make, but I've had the most fun on legendary as a pure cloth mage wearing no armour worth mentioning so my survival depended mainly on mobility and tactics.

That's just bad luck then, happens to everybody; not nearly as embarrassing as when my sneaky Bosmer got sent to space by a giant who actually managed to sneak up on her while she was trying to sneak up on him :D .

I had that happen once, was fighting a Dragon and a giant came up behind be and started attacking me. I to played on Master at one time but i decided to limit my bonuses and crafting to play on adept (max 100 to 150 bonus total sometimes its hard to get potions and such to stay the same as skills go up). that was my question do you limit your bonuses then play on master or do you have 1500 armor class and swords doing 200pts of damage. I trying to see how people play. I started listening to the more roleplaying people talk and decide that would improve my game and I feel it did. just tyring to understand peoples style of play

Anyone can play legendary if you keep Barbas with you, also helps raise your skills faster.

I've tended to start at Adept and ramp it up as I level - my highest level character, a level 59 axe/shield warrior, has been on Legendary for a while now. My next highest, a level 47 mage, is on Master, though I think I'm going to bump it up soon (I do have an improved magic mod however). I don't want the enemies to be push overs but I don't want to be frustrated constantly either.

I play on the hardest. Additionally I use mods like Deadly Dragons to make the game much, much harder.

Ah, yea - forgot about Deadly Dragons. I use that and enhanced high level gameplay, so that ups the challenge in the higher levels. Both highly recommended for anyone who finds the higher levels not challenging enough, even on Legendary.

I really don't like what the increased difficulty does. It makes fights extremely unrealistic, with enemies absorbing crazy amounts of damage without any problems and me apparently being made of glass, the fragile and breakable kind. I definitely prefer what SkyRe does, and mods like Deadly Dragons. It makes the game much more challenging without looking like my character got cheated by fiddling with some numbers deep in the guts of the game.

becuase of this I just play on normal and mod the heck out of my game. A few tweaks to enemy AI and a couple extra mobs in certain place... and I have a hard time working my way down a mine, let alone getting to whiterun for the first time.

Adept (one step below normal). I hate getting killed and dovahkiin is supposed to be better than the rest. I've tried normal, but when supposedly superior hunter can't get one troll killed without running out of arrows, _my_ immersion suffers. If things get too easy, I tweak the difficulty up, but most of the time they've challenging enough as it is.
