Mage Challenge

Post by Angrun »

An accomplished Mage can finish the Main Quest and register only one kill - the World-Eater himself. It is a challenge that requires Magic. A worthy challenge for a True Mage:)

If you enjoy playing a mage, it is a fun character to create.

Some tips/warnings...

*Follower's kills register as your kills. Sorry.
*Unrelenting Force won't register as kill, but ONLY if a fall causes the death.
*Conjured things register as your kills. Sorry.
*Kills by the Dragon Aspect helper than conjures when your health is low does NOT register as your kill. This can be helpful:) Although a challenge to get that shout without killing.
*It is simple to check your "Combat Stats" to make sure all stay zero. Save often.
*Using traps against others useful sometimes. Enemies love to run into swinging axes etc;)

Illusion will be your most useful School. Conjured Bow or Destruction Spells will be required to weaken enemies. BTW, you must kill Alduin. Even Dragon Aspect helper will not deliver final blow.

I don't know about "true mage", but that's pretty impressive.
Have you completed many missions outside of the main quest without acquiring a kill stat?

All the Faction Quests can be completed without registering kills. Although I destroyed Dark Brotherhood (sigh) without kills instead of trying to complete questline.

Civil War Quests can be done without killing. End up playing a Medic healing wounded soldiers.

Majority of Daedric quests can be done. Can't do Boethiah or Molag Bal though. (Maybe Molag can be done, I have not tried.)

It was very hard to complete Dawnguard with only one kill - Lord Harkon. Kind of easy to sneak through Dragonborn questline and kill only Miraak, although he registers as 4 kills (Dragons). Temple of Miraak was hard, however, as you have to keep Frea from killing. Like any follower, her kills count as yours. Becomes more diffilcult when followers are forced upon you:)

I love this kind of challenge. I did a less strict version, making it through the Thieves Guild questline without killing NPCs. Animals and undead I did kill a few of, and I did register the kill for the final boss.

Is there any way to get Honeyside without registering deaths? I mean, the requirement is actually 'go kill these people'.

Thieves Guild is hard to do without killing anything but it IS possible. Keeping Mercer from killing anything in SnowVeil is tough. Killing "final boss" without registering a kill requires an Unrelenting Force fall from the top of a statue:)

Honeyside is possible, although I don't recall how. Probably using "Frenzy" on victims and having someone else make the kill. If you're stuck in a room with only you and them - there are still ways to get job done...
