Multiple Characters?

Still a noob here.

I'm thinking I'd like to try starting up a totally different type of character, just to check out the different gameplay. New name, starting at the very beginning, in the cell. BUT I want to keep my existing character and all his Savegames intact (and in fact I'll continue mostly playing that character).

The question: does the game allow it? Or will creating a new character "overwrite" my existing stuff? I don't see anything written anywhere saying yay or nay on this. Just checking first.

Side note, related to this: is there an article anywhere talking about data backups needed to restore your games/character(s) in the event of a hard disk failure or accidental erasure like I fear in the above? What all directories and files need to be backed up?

Shouldn't cause any difficulties, just be careful not to save over your original

Just copy the "My Games" folder from My Documents, onto a CD or something. There lays all your savefiles.

Codex: Will that also back up my Frostcraig Spire, along with all the contents I've stored there?

I suppose so. But after reinstalling the game, you will have to install the mod as well before you start playing on the old saves.
