Surely I can't be alone in this dilemma I face. I currently own copies of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. However, I want nicer editions for no real explainable reason. Does anybody else understand this desire, or am I as strange as my brother seems to think I am?

Re: General Discussion
I think it's something of a desire to have a collection, but I can't really put it into words. I have paper-back, movie tie-in edition (of LOTR, not the Hobbit, that's just paperback), and these are hardcover, illustrated with gilded pages and dust jackets. Also, LOTR is contained in one book, rather than the three separate books like I have now. It's the sort of thing that would look great on a shelf I imagine.

Re: General Discussion
I know what you mean. I kinda did the same with the Elder Scrolls Anthology - after all I do have all of them on Steam and Arena and Daggerfall are free. I justified it by getting it on Black Friday at half price and giving the Steam code to my sister for Christmas. I also have multiple copies of some books because I liked one edition more than another, though at least in most cases I found them cheap secondhand and sometimes it's a practical reason (i.e. my Harry Potter paperbacks were literally being taped together so I'm getting hardcover).

I own too many books, films and games. I'm literally running out of space and it's all because of the charity shop i volunteer at having the stuff i'm after. I get a 25% staff discount. I've got two overflow piles and i really need ot stop buying so much crap untill i get another bookcase.
I own all the original versions of the HP books. LOTR, the books, i have the special editions. The films, both the regular and extended editions. Own the collector's edition of the Mission Impossible trilogy. (Picked up from the charity shop, both the Mission Impossible trilogy and extended edition of the LOTR trilogy) And many other things.

I dont have many books n films, but I do find it annoying when you buy boxsets and then a year later you've kind of gone off it.
I got all 5 series of Stargate Atlantis a few years ago and now im not really into watching it anymore. Tastes change I suppose.

Re: General Discussion
I don't really feel a need to pursue nicer copies of things, as long as I fully own something. It's one of the reasons I hate micro DLC so much. What's that, I have to spend an extra grand to get all the bells and whistles (I'm talking about a train simulator, here. There is this one train simulator with seriously over a grand of DLC on sale)? I'm just not going to buy your game, then.

I just saw a report on the local newscast about people stealing beehives up in Kern County.
That got me thinking: how in hell does someone steal a beehive without the, you know, stingy pain?
How would you steal a beehive?

Smoke sedates bees, so I'd probably blow a lot of smoke up their skirts before taking off with the hive. Would also dress in several layers and use gloves and a mask.

Re: General Discussion
That's when you're working a hive. Picking up a hive box in a bunny suit and carrying it into a truck bed is going to be a hot, sweaty job. Not to mention the angry bees.
Fun Fact: the reason smoke does that is because the bees are following an instinctive reaction to forest fires. Soon as they smell smoke, they're thinking the colony will have to relocate. They gorge themselves on the nectar/honey in the comb cells in anticipation of swarming with the fleeing queen to a safer place, then re-depositing the load in a new hive.
Of course, the queen doesn't get smoked. She doesn't flee. Her workers are just sitting there, bellies full and unwilling to fly.
