Re: The 'What are you reading at the moment' thread
I plan to read some of these. They sound really interesting. (Name of the Wind - which is by a guy from my town - and The Hobbit are the only two on the list that I've read.) Anyone read these? From the comments in the article it sounds like "The Way of Kings" is highly recommended, and I've heard of Mistborn a couple times as well.

At the moment I'm just rereading some random young adult stuff from my own bookshelves.

Re: The 'What are you reading at the moment' thread
I've read the Hobbit and really enjoyed it. Its kind of like a grandfather telling you a bedtime story. I haven't read Mistborn, though I've heard it takes some time to get into. I like Brandon Sanderson's style and I've read his shorter works (I'm not much of an epic fantasy series gal, I get bored fast). I've also heard that Name Of The Wind is amazing from several friends.
After looking at those covers, I kind of want to read the Dragonbone Chair now.
PS: Forgot to add that Lies Of Locke Lamora sucks you right in. I didn't finish reading it but the first part was really intriguing. I want to return to it someday.

Currently reading the Witcher novels, by Andrzej Sapkowski. Finished "The Last Wish" a few weeks ago, and now reading the follow up, "Blood of Elves".

I'm rereading A Song of Ice and Fire since I finally got a copy of A Dance With Dragons (I'm weird about my aesthetic choices and waited for it in softcover regular print) and want to refresh my memory on where everything is. Second read through, just started.

^ I said I'd read it, unless you meant that for Dohva.
I got the two Elder Scrolls books in the mail last week, so I am re-reading them. The first time, I had only played a bit of Skyrim. This time around, I'm a lot more familiar with the world and lore and am enjoying them more.

After I finish the book I'm reading, I'm going to move on to the Lies of Locke Lamora and see if I like it -- if so, I'll continue with the series. I think after that I'll read Name of the Wind, since I've seen a lot of good reviews both here and elsewhere.

I recently finished Help At Any Cost by Maia Szalavitz, which was very eye-opening. I'm now on Lords of Chaos: The Bloody Rise of the Satanic Metal Underground.

The Outlander, a novel set in the wild west about a woman who killed her husband and her brother in law is hunting her. Pretty good read so far.

Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage by Haruki Murakami. Get it, read it, it's good and great and it will make you think.

Re: The 'What are you reading at the moment' thread
I haven't been reading Lord of the Rings lately. Rather, I have been reading a hideously boring driving book (100+ pages) for the past three months. I don't think I will finish it anytime soon, as it is full of boring stuff. An example of a page would be this.
In the class, the teacher read a couple of the chapters. She said the book was pointless, and that it made no sense. The ironic thing is that I have been doing 95% of the things the book "explains" to me for the past three months...The Driving Book wrote:To park in a perpendicular space, you MUST follow these instructions with the APE (Access, Prepare, Execute) system. Re: The 'What are you reading at the moment' thread
So I finished A Storm of Swords today. Damn, is that book nuts. Particularly the second half. But I'm taking a break from the series for now to catch up on some other novels I'd been planning to read; first up is Children of the Mind by Orson Scott Card, to finish the Ender Quartet.
Start the groove.

I agree. it started off with great potential. then it... declined rapidly. I won't go into why here, or else where on the forum, as it would surely cause much strife.ReeceH wrote:I've never understood how anyone could enjoy these books, I despised them (although admittedly, I only read the first book). Seriously if you haven't read this series I would highly reccomend it.![]()
Personally, I am about half way through The House of Hades of The Olympians series by Rick Riordan. This dude really knows how to mix old Greek/Roman gods with a modern world. Some really funny characters, perhaps too many love stories interwoven (I mean, seriously, does EVERY ONE have to have a girl friend?), but a gripping plot nonetheless. A good read, and a long, enjoyable series.
I can't wait til he blends Egyptian mythology with Roman AND Greek. If the gods get migraines from two cultures worth of mythology merging, I can't imagine what a third, almost entirely different culture would do to them.

The Picture of Dorian Gray
I was considering reading a more modern book after this.... maybe the Ender's Game series or The Lord of the Rings... maybe.

I'm pretty stoked about this, but I got my copy of "Shadows Of A Fading World: 7 Original Tales Of Sword & Sorcery". Its a collaboration of authors, one of which is a buddy of mine on another forum. Got it downloaded and eager to read. A nice treat, but I got it for free for recommending it on social media. I'll be sitting down to that this evening!

The Sot-Weed Factor. It's not promising to be better than Dorian Gray so far, but good.

Historia de España contada para escépticos by Juan Eslava Galán (in the original).

Re: The 'What are you reading at the moment' thread
The Hunger Games Trilogy. They are excellent books and i hope the last 2 films will do the third book justice. I've seen the first two films and they are excellent adaptions even if they do leave some things out that should not have been left out. I would call [&@%!] on the reasoning for the 3rd book to have two films but a lot does happen in them and the author is involved with all of the films so she may be adding more depth to it. I hope she won't do a George Lucas with it.
Probably going to read The Hobbit next then return to Game of Thrones.

Re: The 'What are you reading at the moment' thread
Currently reading Inda by Sherwood Smith. It's an... interesting read. Switches perspectives, but in a world that the author seems to have heavily built. Little hard to make sense of things, though, so I'm not sure I like it or not yet.
