Tamriel Rebuilt - How complete is it?

Post by Demiverse »

More precisely, how complete is the current map?

I downloaded the latest version of TR, booted up the game, and headed east to do some sightseeing. Though the landmass itself seemed pretty well formed, the world overall felt pretty barren. I traveled long distances without encountering flora, fauna, NPCs/quests on the roads, caves/dungeons, etc. It also seemed I had to travel great distances between settlements.

Now I'm wondering if the map still needs to be fleshed out with NPCs, quests, and dungeons. Is the current landmass considered "complete"?

Ah, okay. Judging by this:
Linked TR page wrote:Sacred East (and all future "map" publications) includes not only exteriors, interiors, and NPCs, but also miscellaneous quests...Now work continues on Almalexia (the next area), to round out our Indoril content.
It's ambiguous as to whether more work is being done on the Sacred East, or if the area is more or less going to remain in permanent alpha, or what.

Well, TR has been in production for a decade...and they still haven't completed half the map. I'm not criticizing them, because I think their work is some of the best and most professional of any TES mod work out there. I'm just saying their projected goal might be too ambitious. I'd hate to see TR suffer the same fate as many of the other large-scale projects that came and went over the years.

While it is a large and ambitious project, they have made a lot of progress all things considered. As a whole no other large project has added as much to the game as TR has and so I salute them for that.

Agreed. I wasn't complaining or discrediting their efforts by any stretch of the imagination. It's just difficult to believe TR will ever reach 100% completion, given the relatively small dev team and the colossal scope of the project.

The only problem i had was it seemed a lot of textures and meshes wouldnt load... the box would pop up often saying 'mesh (mesh name) could not be found. Continue anyway?' And things likr that. Did i install it wrong? I dont know. But i had to turn the esm files off because i couldnt travel the mainland with that happrning constantly.

Many people, myself included, experience this issue.

If I'm understanding you correctly. What may have happened is that your Morrowind.ini file may not have been properly updated to load the .bsa files for Tamriel Rebuilt.

If this is the case, I would expect you to be getting this error message:
Failed to load snowflake: Meshes\BM_Snow_01.nif

To remedy the situation, you'll need to make sure that the section labelled [Archives] in your .ini file reads similar to this:
[Archives]
Archive 0=Tribunal.bsa
Archive 1=Bloodmoon.bsa
Archive 2=TR_Data.bsa

As far as I know, it's still a work in progress.

My only quibble with it is that Distant Land's grasses and stuff don't render on the TR-added landmasses, though that's hardly Tamriel Rebuilt's fault. (I'm guessing this is some kind of programming issue, and something well beyond my limited modding knowledge.) Anyone know if there's a way to "grass up" Tamriel Rebuilt?

Tamriel Rebuilt Groundcover might be what you're looking for. It's only for Maps 1 & 2 though, I believe. I don't know if there's a more recent .esp for the latest TR release.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried TR Groundcover yourself? I just wonder what it's like for performance, because I imagine that it'd be fairly intensive.

It certainly sounds exactly what Sadachbia was looking for, I'm thinking about having a look at it myself.

It's animated, and there's lots of it. So you're certainly going to take a performance hit. It's hard to say exactly as I haven't ran TR in quite some time.
