Haha, I tend to make a mod that renames all the odd circlet materials to ones you can actually mine (and then makes them craftable).

Re: Skyrim mysteries
I always figured that the "corundum" in Skyrim is actually copper. It certainly has more similarities to copper than real corundum...SuperNull wrote:What is this "copper" stuff that some circlets are made from?
There are no copper mines, no copper ore and no copper ingots anywhere. Still, Skyrim is littered with circlets made of copper. Who made them and what did they use?
Re: Skyrim mysteries
The only logical answer would be that they have been imported in bulk at one point in time, or more then once. But other then that I would not know. Alto I do not know if other places also lack copper veins that can be mined.SuperNull wrote:What is this "copper" stuff that some circlets are made from?

Re: Skyrim mysteries
Corundum is a cristal of aluminium oxide of a sort, just like saphires, rubys, emeralds i think.
For real copper is a realy comon metal and its used for ages, its odd that for instance, programers choose to go with half gems to be plyable and to create armor from it. Its a bit dum, but what the hel, its a pc game, fack realism, and in other parts of it they have realy payed atention to detail.

Re: Skyrim mysteries
Well the case with corundum, it's the same with glass and ebony. All three have real world counterparts<_< but with-hold their own distinct properties within the series. Though corundum is a fairly new addition<_< as far as I know it's rather odd.
It is a key ingredient to produce steel, which at it's base is carbon infused iron. So corundum must hold trace amounts of carbon, but at the same time hold properties on it's own.. or else it wouldn't be so valued. Hardness alone doesn't make for the best weapons or armor, in this case it is valued for a degree of malleability(a shared trait of copper) furthered by it's ability as a bonding agent in alloys or materials, something carbon is well known for>_>
Still, by appearance it does mimic copper, both in the slight bronze color to even the oxidized green that forms. But other than that and both present malleability, to the best of my knowledge I can't see any other similarities

Re: Skyrim mysteries
@Regin, I was wondering when the miner would weigh in on this. You would not really mix Corundum and iron to get steel right?

NO! Why put a shyne rock in steel?

I have a mod that renames Corundum to Copper and changes the recipe for Steel from mixing in Corundum with Iron to using charcoal and Iron. You have to make the charcoal from fire wood at the smelter. The same mod changes Quicksilver to Mithril and Glass to Moldavite.Ursula R. Heh, I made a mod just like this for myself too! Although I didn't rename glass to Moldavite but rather renamed malachite to glass since glass is already well established in lore as being named glass and the name is generic enough that it doesn't make it seem like it is another substance.I have a mod that renames Corundum to Copper and changes the recipe for Steel from mixing in Corundum with Iron to using charcoal and Iron. Re: Skyrim mysteries
Those of us without a MOD (PS3) will have to "pretend" Corundum is ? to make steele. I am an animal specialist, not a metalergist. Just wondering.

I always kinda figured that Dwarfen Metal is actually copper, but it still doesn't make sense entirely then.
Where did the Dwarfs get their metal from? Sure, the player can get it from Dwemmer parts, but from what were those parts made?

Re: Skyrim mysteries
I'd say that Dwarven metal is more akin to bronze. Copper is far too soft on its own to make weapons and armor from. Bronze, however... Well, there is an entire era called The Bronze Age for a reason.SuperNull wrote:I always kinda figured that Dwarfen Metal is actually copper, but it still doesn't make sense entirely then.

Re: Skyrim mysteries
Bronze is a better match.
Whatever it is, the knowledge of how to make it was lost with the Dwemer themselves.

What happened at Northwind Mine and Northwind Summit? Those skeletons prove that it wasn't the dragon.

Seeing as Solitude, Markath, Riften, Whiterun and Windhelm all being walled cities are the capitols of their holds why isn't Helgen the capital of Falkreath hold (the hold could have been re-named) instead of 'two goat' Falkreath?

The way I see it, the carriage driver knows that those towns are too small and most likely won't get a customer there so they head back. That's also why they charge you 50 instead of 20. It's to cover the cost of the back trip.Tor Eden wrote:exactly! also how come you can get a carriage too Falkreath, Morthal, Dawnstar, and Winterhold but not from Falkreath, Morthal, Dawnstar, and Winterhold?perylousdemon wrote:You forget that Morthal, Dawnstar, and Winterhold also aren't walled but are the capitals of their holds.Tor Eden wrote:Seeing as Solitude, Markath, Riften, Whiterun and Windhelm all being walled cities are the capitols of their holds why isn't Helgen the capital of Falkreath hold (the hold could have been re-named) instead of 'two goat' Falkreath?
