Re: The Molag Bal Game XVII
"This one has noticed that Ba'Lee was acting strangely when this all began," M'hras remarked, after another very prolonged silence. "But it seems most would gravitate towards Paras now. This one doesn't yet believe that Paras is guilty. It is a difficult choice for M'hras, but he believes his vote will be cast for Ba'Lee."

Re: The Molag Bal Game XVII
It wasn't supposed to go this way. He had a simple job, observe his master's work so that he could one day take up the cause himself. After being sent to the village to worm his way into their society, Paras had diligently done his duties to his masters. Yet, the only reward for all of his efforts that he would ever see at the end of a rope. As Paras was taken to the gallows, a thought came to him:
He could rat out the other Molag Bal worshipers. The ones who were doing the true killing could take his place right now. All he would have to do is confess, and he might be spared. But as he contemplated this desperate strategy, he realized how flawed it was. Even if they believed him, it was not likely to end with his freedom. He would still pay for his involvement in these bloody affairs, one way or another. If, by some miracle he was freed and the true cultists brought to justice, his best hope was exile. He didn't want to run for the rest of his life, knowing that he would constantly be hunted by other members of the cult.
So Paras bit his tongue, and remained quiet. He hoped Barbas would be alright with him gone. As the rope was tightened around his neck, he wondered what fate his soul had earned.
Paras has been lynched by the mob to drive out the cultists. He was not a cultist, although he could have become one as he was:
The Apprentice - The secret servant to one of the other characters, their untimely death would have caused him to take up their old title. He would have replaced the first major character killed.
IT IS NOW NIGHT.

Barbas, frightened of the sight of his master's demise ran to the sea and started swimming to the mainland. Once there, he wandered Tamriel, never to be seen again by the members of the village.

"Not again!" Threes wailed "Two innocents dead! I don't know what to say, I, I need to be alone, I'll be in my house if needed, don't come and find me at night, or at least knock first" he continued, referring to his runes. He returned to his house and placed a frost rune upon the door, and tried to sleep

"M'hras will go home," he announced. "M'hras will feel safer on his own. Though it is fortunate that the apprentice is dead, his death brings only more questions and no answers. "
With those words he went home, intending to discuss the issue further on the next day. If he yet lived.

Re: The Molag Bal Game XVII
Nanzus went home that night feeling very unnerved. Two people had been lynched so far, yet there were still cultists lurking in their midst. If the old man were to place the situation on a badness scale, it'd be the worst. Worse than having a whole season's worth of goose hatchlings come down with feather-feast fungus, worse than banging your toe against the kitchen table, worse than everything.
"Honk!"
"No, Suzy I'm not losing it. Look how calm and collected I am!!"
"Honk!"
"Because I could be killed anytime! I.. ugh, let's just get back home and sleep."

Mu bowed his head as he returned to his Inn. "It seems I was wrong about Paras," he said. "He was under tutelage from the worshipers after all."

"No," Runs-with-Dunmer snarled as Four Threes fled, "He was as guilty as the rest of them, and could not be trusssted. We will survive this. We have yet to falter. Selezen was wrong to run from us, and Paras secured his own fate. It is not we who need bear the burden of their deaths. Our duty now is to survive."
She left the tavern and set off back home. Each step she took felt like one closer to the servants of Bal, and from this she drew great comfort and fortitude.

Ba'Lee was unsure how to feel about the lynching of Paras.
"This one does not know if Paras was guilty, or not. Still, as he was a servant, perhaps we have done right.."
He turned and slowly walked home.

Tatur was unsure whether they'd done good this evening. With that on his mind, he made his way back to his smithy, and turned in for the night.

Re: The Molag Bal Game XVII
Lara was glad that a Bal apprentice had been lynched. Hopefully the next day they could get an actual worshipper to the gallows.
She left for her home, intending to spend the uncertain night there.
When she got there, she found the front door hanging off its hinges, swinging slightly in the wind. Inside, the house was cold and draughty, and the memory of two nights earlier came into her mind.
Thinking that at least she had survived the night before whilst at the inn, she might be better off there, although Do'vah had been attacked and Mu was proving somewhat of a pest.
Gathering several of her belongings, and her dagger, she took one look around her house again, then went to the inn for the night.

Mu was disheartened when he saw Lara head toward her own home. He went inside the inn and began cleaning up dejectedly. When Lara came back, however, he was elated! "Lara!" he said with a smile as she entered.

Re: The Molag Bal Game XVII
'Good evening Mu.' Lara said.
'I'm just here to stay at the inn, like any other villager.' she empasised the end of her sentence, such that he would know she was giving him a hint.
'Have a safe night.'
She went to the same room that she had used the night before and put her things down.
Lara placed her dagger under the pillow. Even though it had proved useless against the cultists, she figured it may come in handy against the mystery attacker.

Re: The Molag Bal Game XVII
Darba was not sure what to think. Sure, Paras had not participated in the murders and was not officially a cultist, but if he had been their servant... well, that had to count for something, right? If he believed that, then his conscience was clear. But he couldn't help feeling as if they still hadn't made any real progress; all the murderers were still at large.
Trying to clear his head of those fearful thoughts, he returned to his home, where he did his usual dinner and bedtime routine.

Mu tried to say goodnight to Lara, but she was gone and in her room before he even opened his mouth. He decided to serve her breakfast in bed the next morning...if they both survived. He would stand guard at her door again this night.

Duruza let out a sigh. "She's right," he muttered, speaking of the now departed Argonian, "insofar as it is not with we that the final accountability for these deaths lies, but Molag Bal. The only way that we may give this bloodshed meaning is to endure, to overcome, to defeat Bal at his own game."
He paused, "I should be getting home." He hobbled off back home, leaning on his stick and wearily watching his back as he shuffled through the ever-darkening night air.
