If the Empire was forced to disband who would takeover?
As said above, if the Empire disbanded which non-imperial race would most likely be the one to rule. I'm not talking immediately but if the imperials were wiped out, not so different from the way the jedi were, which race would eventually find itself at the head of the race food chain? You must also say why?

I don't think any of the races of Tamriel are in any real position to take over. When Tiber Septim finally subjugated them none were left with any real forces to speak of. Before the Tribunal fell maybe the Dunmer had a chance, but they're going to be busy with their own internal problems for quite a while I think.
Although it has been stated that throughout history Akavir has tried to invade the Empire several times, but they were always pushed back by the Legion.

I say the slaughterfish go under an evolutionary change by growing legs, lungs, and side-mounted tripple barrel plasma turrets. All of the previous land races are so confused as to why this has happend they run around in a frenzied rage punching themselves. The slaughterfish are so numb minded that they can't even operate their newly obtained goodies and flop around untill they fall on the throne.
well that's what I think will happen
But beings on the serious note. The best thing that would happen for the empire is the leaders of the said empires unite together one not stronger than the other but all equal kinda like communisim. So, everyone is poor and we all like techno, tetris, and rubles.

Maybe it would be an unknown race from the other side of Nirn. They've been waiting for the opportunity to take over the Empire. They could be like Elves, with the strength of Orcs, and the magic of Bretons, and as ruthless as Dunmer. Sort of like a "Super" Elf. It could happen. And I think it would make a great sequal to Oblivion. Uniting all races of Tamriel to fight of the invading forces.

I doubt the Altmer could rule the Empire.
Breton can take advantage of their weakness to the Elements.
I doubt really, that any race can rule the Empire all alone.

There already is an elf like that. Well sort of. The dread elf. Except their more ruthless than Dunmer. Their pure evil. The real name of the race is Renmer. Unfortunetly I made up this race. But I put a lot of hard time into it. (I need to bring this idea to Bethesda.) They look like Bosmer. But their skin is red and black and their hair is always very bright. (Start a new game and when you get to the hair create a custom color. bring a random color all the way to the right with the others all to the left and you will see what I mean.) They are strong like orcs. (Focus on strength and fighting stuff.) But also are good in magic. (Focus on magic) I need to post a picture of my dread elf sometime soon.Kinzer wrote:Maybe it would be an unknown race from the other side of Nirn. Well wrap me around your neck and call me a pedant.
Orcs/Nords would just kill them, by stepping on them.
"Eww, whats that smell? Ugh! I just stepped in Bosmer"
The supreme orc would be a Blorc.
Yes, a blue orc.
Go to Face: Tone and set it all to Bright or Pure.
Then you'll see what i mean.

I think that Bretons are well set up enough to take charge. They are highly intelligent, can hold there own in melee combat, own at magic, and have a navy that can stand up against a strong force. But not enough in my opinion is known of the Bretons army, would they be able to pull a Tiber Septim scenario out of a hat, and conquer all of Tamriel. I think its a possibility.

I'd place my money on one of the two SUPERIOR mer.
Altmer seem to be the most powerful race, their magical prowess surpassing that of the greatest Breton magi.
They are incredibly weak to their own beloved magics, however, and wouldn't stand a chance steel on steel.
The Dunmer are quite a dynamic race. They may not fight as well as Redguards, their marksmanship skill may be a fraction of that compared to an average Bosmer and their bonds with the magics are nowhere near as strong as the Breton or Altmeri, however they are still damned good in each category.
I believe they are also quite densley populated, which would call for a sizable army.
The Redguards, Bretons and Orcs do not seem to be populous enough to sustain a large enough military. The Argonians and Khajiit are virtually primitive compared to the moreso cosmopolitan races, and Bosmer would have no protective cover in the flatlands of Cyrodiil (Where I assume most of the warring would occur, being in the exact center of Tamriel). Nords are a barbaric race. They always have been and always will be. I would assume that they would shy away from the battles and resume their life of petty clan warfare.
The Imperials, certainly the most balanced race of all, would likely be scattered too far and thinly to congregate into a respectable army.
That was to answer your given question.
Truthfully, I believe no single kingdom would retake the Empire and Tamriel would spend the rest of its years in war and carnage.

Well I'm glad to see someone has a similar imagination as me. I think the background of such a such a race would be very interesting and there would be many directions you could go with it.John117 wrote:

Back on topic though, if I were to choose a race that is a part of the Empire, I probably couldn't choose one. Each race has their advantages over others as well as weaknesses. The one race I would like to see take over the Empire though, would have to be the Dunmer. The best and most interesting race in the Elder Scrolls, from what I've gathered playing Oblivion and reading about Lore on UESP.

Thank you Arotos, that was very insightful, actually. I happen to believe that you're right, the most able to take the empire from then on would be the Dunmer, however as Deandra expressed, they would practically collapse once they called on their beloved gods to lead the armies, and find that their precious Tribunal is no more (THANKS A LOT ALMALEXIA!!!). Even moreso, if whatever world you imagine this in, you have Nerevar's reincarnate kill Lord Vivec to obtain Wraithguard, leaving not one single god left, as opposed to a very depressed and demented one if you left him alive. I believe that in the next encounter needing divine intervention would leave them catastrophically uncoordinated due to the new-found knowledge of the Godless Resdayn, perhaps even, to spark a several-sided civil war in the country betwixt the independent houses vying for dominance of the province. In that respect, the city of Vivec would either become the first battle ground, or a diplomatic mainstay for treaty and negotiation. If the former should happen, it is a probability that the Temple should take the entire city, expelling all of the other houses, though, there is a possibility, of one house should play its cards right, that it should gain the city as a key stronghold in the war. If the latter should happen, then it would be due to the neutrality of the Temple in the wars, though, incredibly unlikely, as the Temple is currently the most dominant in Morrowind, and would most likely want to expand its following. If the civil war were to happen, it would eradicate the Dunmer's chances at ever controlling, or even fighting for control of the empire.
I believe the Altmer would most definitely enter, and quite possibly start, the war for the empire. They are the most arrogant of races, and controlling all of Tamriel's regions would be a very mouth-watering prospect for them. I do believe that they have a 30-40 percent chance of winning, though, as they are very susceptible to magic, however, I would also like to bring up the point that in the thousands of years of studying and adapting magic, they would most likely have a taught system for using spells for defense and offense efficiently at the same time. They certainly have the magicka reserve to do so. The only probable way that they would win this war is if they took out each of the other provinces one by one and forced the subjects into military service. They would probably start with the redguards, as they aren't wonton to use magic as a preliminary offense or defense, and the fact that the Summerset Isle and Hammerfell are not very far apart, and Hammerfell has a good sized coast, allowing the Altmer to use their sea dominance as a formidable strategy to taking Hammerfell. After Hammerfell, they may venture south into Vallenwood, and as the Summerset Isle and Vallenwood are already at war, would finish the conflict with the redguards' help. Next to fall would be the Kahjit, and after that, the argonians. The Dunmer subjugation could go either way, depending on how strong the dunmer sense of nationality is, the houses could either unite and drive back the Altmer, or they would stay opponents and fall. If they were to unite, the war could go either way. The Nords would be an easy task, as they would merely have to take out the separate clans, adjusting now and then for the occasional allied counter-attack. They would most likely finish with the bretons, using their subjugated province peoples as their chief source of soldiers as the bretons' magic potency does not do as significant damage to any other race as it does to the Altmer themselves. Once they have the surrounding territory, there would be no other claim to Cyrodiil and the Altmer would have won the war. However, there are several places the strategy could go wrong, and the biggest threat would have to be the Dragon-King from Akavir, for obvious reasons. A less obvious, yet still prevalent threat to the plan would be if the Redguards and Bretons were to ally against the Altmer, which would be very likely to happen. After they drove back the Altmer, I think that they would set their sights on a much higher goal.
After the Altmer, I don't believe any one race could take the empire, as they lack the sheer numbers and funds to wage full scale war on all the provinces. However, there might be an alliance between two that could greatly tip the scales. The most likely alliance would be between the Bretons and Redguards. This would only be exacerbated if the Altmer were to strike against the Redguards first in their quest to control Tamriel. Once the Altmer threat dissipated, the Alliance would most likely try to take over the rest of the provinces, by order of Argonians (though risky crossing the country for a war, the Argonians would be the easiest targets.), swing back around and take Elsweyr and Vallenwood, leaving the Dunmer for last. All the while they would have to defend their new claim from the Summerset Isles, which would, after a short while, regroup and resume the siege. This would most likely lead to a final campaign between the Alliance and the Altmer, in which the Alliance would most likely win if the Altmer were to send their forces abroad for the final fray, being decimated and leaving the Summerset Isle undefended against reproach. The Altmer would have a 65 percent advantage if the Alliance were to try to lay siege to the Summerset Isle to end the ongoing conflict. The Altmer would stand a good chance of winning, but the victory would definitely be Pyrrhic, leaving the Altmer only enough for defense against another attack for a good time afterwords. If the Altmer should win, their range would only cover their own land, and the Alliance would tend to their wounds. A rebellion from the conquered provinces might ensue, with the Alliance standing at a 70 percent chance of losing one or two provinces and a 50 percent chance of losing all of them. After which point, the Altmer would swoop in, taking whatever provinces they could with their limited army after the battle against the Alliance. The Alliance and the Isles would declare armistice, giving both enough time to recuperate, after which a great war would commence and either forces would have a 50 percent chance of defeating the other. If the Alliance should win in the original fray against the Altmer they would end their conflict with them, and set their sights for Morrowind, having already taken over Skyrim by that point, and force Morrowind, in whatever condition due to civil war, to fight a war on two fronts which would only lead to Dunmer loss. Once again, there would be several threats, the most prominent being an attack from Akavir.
Overall, I don't believe that one race would be able to take the entire empire alone, without alliance or very good strategy, and chances have it that the Dragon-King, learning of the Imperial extinction would re-ignite the war against Tamriel, and only a very strong alliance of all the peoples of Tamriel could serve to defeat them a second time.

If you think Argonians would be the eaisest to conquer, then you don't know much about Black Marsh:
1) Disease. Many of your troops would succumb to diseases that Argonians are immune to. Also, some researchers beleive that an Argonian created the Knahaten Flu that killed all the humans in Black Marsh. So, if this is true, they could just do this again and your army would be destroyed.
2) How are you going to move your troops. Boats would only work in the larger rivers, but they get smaller and eventually turn into bog and marsh. There's also the Swamp Leviathan. "Half submerged in the water ahead was a mountain of spines, lying on nine-foot-long claws. White eyes stared blindly forward, and then suddenly the whole creature spasmed and lurched, the jaw of its mouth jutting out, exposing tusks clotted with gore". In the smaller rivers, you would not be able to avoid this and from the description it seems as if it would be able to destroy one of your ships.
3) Morale. I doubt that you soldiers would be willing to fight for long. Think about it: the constant death due to disease, the stench of the marsh, the constant threat of voriplasms and Swamp Leviathans, as well as the constant biting of flesh flies. Also, it rains alot in Black Marsh, so they would constantly be wet.

Hehe, those arguments sound very familiar.
Same responses then...
1) The diseases could easily have died out and you don't know, seeing as it won't affect Argonians. Or other races may also be immune to them. I don't know if we follow these things by the book, but it's possible in reality to be immune to certain diseases while being succeptible to others, so half of the diseases that may be there could be completely in-effective.
As for the Knahaten Flu, that's a pretty big maybe... with an if to boot.
2) I'm sure the Leviathan's as much a problem for platoons of Argonians troops as it is other races. And boats will work for the most part for getting around, but in this war.... who says it's Black Marsh being invaded?
3) And how will the morale of the Argonians be once they are losing the war? Equally, if not more-so, lower, I'm sure.

I was responding to Wolf's post when he said "the Alliance would most likely try to take over the rest of the provinces, by order of Argonians (though risky crossing the country for a war, the Argonians would be the easiest targets.)"The Dog Whisperer wrote:who says it's Black Marsh being invaded?
Boats will work for large rivers, which become smaller, making it hard to manuever the ships through. Also, rivers don't lead to all cities, so to get to the ones not accessible by boat, your troops would have to go through miles are marsh and bog.The Dog Whisperer wrote:I'm sure the Leviathan's as much a problem for platoons of Argonians troops as it is other races. Who says they'll be loosing? Getting to the center of Black Marsh has never been accomplished by invading forces, and I doubt that you would be able to do it. So you may be able to take over the cities on the periphery of Black Marsh, but you could never fully conqurer it.The Dog Whisperer wrote:And how will the morale of the Argonians be once they are losing the war? You also have to be aware of the condition of the Argonians after the Empire took control. Argonia has become a very poor nation, needing the Imperials to defend it from all other attacks that the environment couldn't handle; I doubt that they would even try to engage in any war voluntarily and I can assure you, no swamp monster would be any match for a Breton/Redguard army, they are too stubborn to give up that easily (especially the redguards, they would love a challenge like that). As for the diseases, 1) they could have died out, as Dog said, 2) The Bretons would surely be aware of it and cast protective spells. The water would be an easy fix. Using some of that old Resdayn magic, the bretons need merely cast a water-walking spell on the armies. Marsh is half water, anyway so it would be absolutely no bother at all.
An Alliance with Hammerfell and High Rock would be one of the most powerful forces in Tamriel, the only two races coming close to challenging them would be the Altmer and Dunmer.

Who says you have to conquer the whole country? With the outer cities and the ones accessible by rivers conquered the invaders could simply wait out the Argonians, it's only a matter of time before the now extremely densely populated areas are forced to try and conquer something back. By which time the invaders will have settled in nicely, gotten defenses up etc.Teinaava wrote:So you may be able to take over the cities on the periphery of Black Marsh, but you could never fully conqurer it.

Actually, in recent years, conditions in Argonia have improved. They actually improved after the other races stopped trying to help:Wolf wrote:You also have to be aware of the condition of the Argonians after the Empire took control. Argonia has become a very poor nation, needing the Imperials to defend it from all other attacks that the environment couldn't handle
The Argonian Account Book 4 wrote:Within three months, the bridge at Slough Point had disappeared into the muck; the great caravan had collapsed into decrepitude; and the main road from Gideon had been utterly swallowed up by swamp water. The Argonians began once again to use the old ways, their personal rafts and sometimes the Underground Express to transport the grain in small quantities. It took a third of the time, two weeks, to arrive in Cyrodiil, none of it rotten. Within five months, the last book had been stolen from the deserted Maran monastery in Umphollo. As the Archeins went bankrupt, their slaves returned to his parents' tiny farms. The backwater Argonians found that they could grow enough to feed their families provided they had enough hard workers in their enclave, and the buyers market for slaves sharply declined.Within six months, there were no more Nagas roaming the roads, as there were no merchants traveling them to rob. The thugs returned to the fetid inner swamp, where they felt much happier, their constitutions enriched by the rot and pestilence that they loved.
I never said they'd enter voluntarily, I was responding to you saying they could be eaisly conquered.Wolf wrote:I doubt that they would even try to engage in any war voluntarily
Constant water walking spells and disease resist spells would use up alot of magicka, and during fights, if your using your magicka to walk on water, your not going to have as much to cast damaging spells. What about when they have to sleep? Your still in the bog, where are you going to sleep.Wolf wrote:The Bretons would surely be aware of it and cast protective spells. The water would be an easy fix. Using some of that old Resdayn magic, the bretons need merely cast a water-walking spell on the armies.
Also, you've forgotten the flesh flies. While they may not be that harmful while moving, while sleeping it would be easy for them to snack on your troops flesh.
How willing do you think your troops will be to stay in Black Marsh. Think about it: the constant death due to disease, the stench of the marsh, the constant threat of voriplasms and Swamp Leviathans, as well as the constant biting of flesh flies. Also, it rains alot in Black Marsh, so they would constantly be wet.The Dog Whisperer wrote:Who says you have to conquer the whole country? With the outer cities and the ones accessible by rivers conquered the invaders could simply wait out the Argonians, it's only a matter of time before the now extremely densely populated areas are forced to try and conquer something back. By which time the invaders will have settled in nicely, gotten defenses up etc.
